MERRY GO ROUND MARCH

ABOUT:

Utilizing effective articulation, minimal dynamics, and an upbeat march melody, this latest work from Mikayla Bauer is an excellent sectional feature and a perfect way to introduce any band to the march genre.

FROM THE COMPOSER:

This piece was created with the idea of a beginning band in mind. The elements of this piece creates a melody that stays with the performer, as it is catchy but is not too complex. The opening section teaches the students that when they count together, they perform together. The middle section features the percussion and low instrumentation. This gives instruments such as low brass and low woodwinds a feature of their own. The second time you hear the main melody, you are greeted with a richer sense of harmonies with an overarching theme from the higher instruments.

One fun part about this piece is that there is a french horn 1 and french horn 2 part. I wrote two parts with the idea that if you have a more advanced french horn player, you can give them the melody, while also having the option to support a standalone player as well. In conclusion, this piece uses elements of staccatos, minimal but effective dynamics, and the upbeat march melody to keep the performer and audience well entertained.
