Metal Gear Solid is a series that has been a staple of the PlayStation brand, appearing on each PlayStation console in one way or another, and while the Vita may not have a Metal Gear Solid game of it's own, it still has this HD collection featuring Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, both of which have been brought over to the Vita masterfully by the team at Bluepoint Games, with the addition of touchscreen controls which are easy to use to navigate gadgets and weapons Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is a must have for all Vita owners.

An alternate universe twist on the second arc of the Sword Art Online anime, Hollow Fragment has you going off to conquer the last 25 floors of Aincrad while exploring the mysterious Hollow Ara on the side with a strong new friend. It features MMO-like gameplay, tons of options for customizing and improving your character, and a ton of playable content - offering one of the best bang-foryour-buck experiences on the Vita. A musou-style action title with a busty twist, Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus follows the lives and battles of the girls at various shinobi schools around Japan - giving you some very humourous and ecchi story to go with your big-breasted ninja fighters. Each girl has a different fighting style, story, and rival for you to enjoy (as well as a costume room to customize your girls in) so there's plenty for you to see here; but its also true that some of the most enjoyable moments happen in multiplayer. Yes, Shinovi Versus has multiplayer... and being that it's based around collecting panties, kicking ass, and stripping your opponents, it's even more sweet than the usual modes in these kinds of games. Plus, there's boobs.

Do you like killing giant angry bugs? Do you own a Vita? Well good, because Helldivers is a must play. It's a very difficult twin stick shooter that makes you rely on your teammates to make sure they kill the enemies and also not you. With friendly fire always on it can make for some stressful, funny, angering moments. All in all though it's one experience I don't think you should pass up. Even if you're not the biggest fan of twin stick shooters the co-op aspect alone makes you feel like you're apart of team working together for one goal.

The original 3 Sly Cooper games were some of the best platformers to release on the PlayStation 2 back in it's hay-day, and bringing the trilogy over to the Vita proves just how timeless and fun these games can be, from the simple level by level platforming of Sly 1 to the open worlds filled with challenges and fantastic collectibles in Sly 2 and 3, these games offer hours upon hours of family friendly enjoyment as well as a compelling story that unfolds throughout these 3 incredible games.

One of those games that took a while to come to the Vita, but it was well worth the wait. Teslagrad is a puzzle/platformer based around magnetism and electrical charges and will charm you every step of the way through the tesla tower. With more than 30 scrolls hidden around your adventure you'll be playing this for a while. With a beautiful hand-drawn art style, tricky puzzles and an atmospheric soundtrack, Rain Games have set the bar high at the first attempt.

After being considered one of the greatest trilogies of the PlayStation 2 era, Sly Cooper sat it out for a few years while it's original developers Sucker Punch worked on newer projects. Luckily for us, Sanzaru Games had took over the reigns to give us a direct continuation of the series. Taking place a few years after Sly 3, the game features the same core gameplay that the older games in the series had to offer, but as well as this they offer a unique cast of characters as well as an interesting plot which spans through centuries.

A bridging title that jumps back before Danganronpa 2 in the timeline but spoils it as well (meaning you need to play it third), Ultra Despair Girls takes a slightly different gameplay mechanic route - opting for some third person shooter and brawler elements alongside visual novel story bits. It may be a little weird in concept, but the execution is top notch... and that's what makes the deviation so enjoyable for fans and non-fans alike.

It might look a little rough around the edges and was an early marker for the compromises needed to get "console quality gaming" in on the go, but if you were prepared to overlook the shortcomings you'd have a truly special racer in your hands, quite literally. Criterion Game's reboot of the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted has more than just a hint of their amazing Burnout Paradise mixed in with the insane action you'd have expected from Hot Pursuit. Packing a huge "open world" city, a large number of events, lots of cars to unlock and online multiplayer for up to four racers there is a tremendous amount to keep you busy for some time, and that's before you attempt to beat your friends' speed camera scores and ludicrous billboard stunts.

An enhanced version of Soul Sacrifice, Delta is an action/RPG title that has you fighting hoards of enemies and a ton of bosses - all in an attempt to learn the powers of a sorcerer. Summon weapons, use magic attacks, heal yourself (or your team), amp up your natural abilities, or sacrifice something for an ultimate attack - you're the powerful one here so you make the decisions. Just don't forget that you're actually a prisoner, and you need to get enough power to defeat your master sorcerer of a captor. Heavy stuff, no?

Vanillaware didn't hold back when they brought their side-scrolling beat 'em up to the PlayStation Vita. With a beautiful hand-painted art style, Dragon's Crown is nothing but old-school brawler fun. There are six different character classes to choose from, and whether players choose the muscled-up Fighter or the overly buxom Sorcerer, there is something for everyone's play style. Dragon's Crown provides countless hours of beautiful, bash 'em up goodness ending with satisfying boss battles.

This game is a beautiful music puzzler where you you take your blob to pick up notes and make the level's soundtrack more complete. The brilliancy to Sound Shapes is that the level breathes the music -- depending on what the song's beat or tempo, various aspects to the level will move or react to it. The game may have music you aren't into, but that shouldn't discourage you from playing it; by the game's end you will be addicted and ready to tackle its insanely hard Death Mode.

Steins;Gate is arguably one of the best games in the Visual Novel genre, and fully deserves its place in the list of top PlayStation Vita titles. The story hooks you in so much so chances are that you will still have bits of the story running through your head days after completing the game; from little catchphrases like Mayushii’s chirpy, song-like ‘tutturū’ that she says when greeting people to Okabe’s megalomaniac monologues that often end up with him talking into his phone like he is on some secret mission. The lack of gameplay and the amount of reading that is involved will mean that some people will not be fans of this game, but any person that enjoys a good story will find this game extremely enjoyable.

Broken Age brought the classic adventure game formula to the Vita in grand fashion. With an amazing art style, fantastic voice acting, and mind boggling (though often hilarious) puzzles, it managed to perfectly capture the nostalgia of the old LucasArts games many people remember so fondly. But where the game truly shines is in its deep and touching story. The two main characters, Shay and Vella, come alive during the game, and their stories of growth and self discovery strike an emotional chord that is hard to forget. Broken Age delivers on a perfect blend of challenging puzzles and beautiful narrative.

How do you follow up a critically acclaimed indie title filled with gallons of blood and a pounding sountrack? More of the same. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong number gives us what we loved from the original title, but exceeds from the original in its level design and incredible artistic style. A challenging title, gameplay and narrative wise, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is an addictive title that will keep you hooked right to the end of its unpredictable story. From the mind of one of the most brilliant and polarizing game developers in recent memory, FEZ combines the charm of 8-bit graphics with modern day mechanics to create a puzzle-platformer that is both clever and brilliant. On the face of it, FEZ is a cute platformer starring a red-hatted hero named Gomez. Each level is a puzzle in which a 2D world must be shifted in the third dimension to create a path for the character to pass. The true magic here is that everything in the game is a clue to a solve a deeper puzzle. Symbols on walls and twinkling stars are actually a code the player must decipher to uncover the true wonders of this beautiful world.

One of the best pick-up-and-play titles on the PlayStation Vita, World Invitational (aka Everybody's Golf in Europe) is a golf game with chibi-esque characters on animated courses. It's a much less serious golf title than the latest PGA title from EA, but is also quite involved and hard when you really get into it; offering something for the introductory player as well as the expert. Just like the big boys however, it offers a chance to customize your characters, clubs, balls, swing and more - making it a game that's easy to grow into. It helps too that it's got multiplayer, as even this far into its lifespan there's always an online game waiting to be played. Basically, this is an all around great game that can be enjoyed for a bunch of reasons... not just for its golf skin.

If Shovel Knight had been released in the early 1990's it would fit in beautifully with the famous 2D platformers of that time. This retro styled game pulls influences from classics such as Ducktales and Mega Man and combines them to pay homage to those older games while appealing to a whole new generation of gamers at the same time. A retro 8-bit soundtrack, gorgeous graphics and memorable villains make Shovel Knight a must play for any Vita owner who isn't afraid of a little old school challenge.

An action RPG with a somewhat dated look, Ys: Memories of Celceta is a game that is best enjoyed if you look past the coat of paint and tropes - as underneath it all there's an extremely competent game with tons of content and a humorous script. Rogue Legacy has got to be one the best titles I've ever played in a long time. It punishes you in a smart way and makes you just want to continue playing to get better and better. In Rogue Legacy you play a knight whose trying to get to his father and while you're going to die a lot. After you die you can spend the money you gained to upgrade your next child. On the surface LittleBigPlanet PSVita is a platformer with a reasonably short but charming campaign, which more than showcases the capabilities of the handheld. Further inspection reveals a title where almost anything is possible with the facility to create practically anything you want via the creation mode. Velocity 2X offers the perfect mix of side-scrolling puzzle-platforming and top-down shooting action. With perfect controls, beautiful visuals and an amazing soundtrack, this game is one that you should definitely not miss! Beating each level on perfect is tough (both in difficulty and on your reflexes), but in the end you will feel like thumb kinda hero!

If you had been told a few years ago that a game which featured a variety of sentient squares and rectangles exploring their way around their environment would win awards for its incredible gameplay and fantastic narration, you would probably think that the world had gone mad. Just a few minutes with Mike Bithell's break-out hit will show you exactly why it is respected and acclaimed. With tight controls and outstanding puzzle-platform action and a fantastic story - driven along by Danny Wallace - as well as notable differences between the different characters, you'll love every minute with Thomas was Alone and once you have finished with the 100 levels, you'll be longing for more, which thankfully has been provided with the Benjamin's Flight DLC. Essential for all platformer fans.

With great platforming and a learning curve that ensures you are always challenged you will find yourself coming back to Super Meat Boy in order to get the best run. Some players may be put off by the difficulty of this game, but if you stick with it then the sense of achievement when you overcome a tough level will keep you hungry for more! As far as platformers go, this is up there as one of the best of recent times.

Hotline Miami has you taking on the role of a contract killer in '80s Miami. Filled with an exotic color palette and fantastic soundtrack, you will face hordes of mobsters as you wield an arsenal of weapons ranging from a sledgehammer to a brick. The game can be very hard -- it'll take you dozens of attempts just to clear the first floor of a single level -- but when it does click and you get through it, you'll find yourself impressed and satisfied with the bloodbath you created. Hotline Miami really lends itself well to a handheld since it is a twin-stick shooter, and is a game you really can't afford to pass on

One of the first PlayStation Vita titles to wow the audience, Gravity Rush is a semi-open world adventure title about a girl who has lost her memories, but has gained the power to help those around her. Using the power to manipulate gravity, protagonist "Kat" must take on the Nevi that have popped up in the area and protect the townspeople from the impending gravity storm - all while trying to find out who she is and what her place is in the world she lives in. In our experience it's a must try title, and an excellent example of what the Vita can do.

When Uncharted launched with the Vita it carried the weight of PlayStation's most well regarded franchise. It also was the perceived barometer for the promised console quality games that were to come. Sony Bend managed to deliver on both of those expectations. It was the first game to display the possibilities of the handheld with some even claiming it to be a better game than Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Regardless of your stance on that opinion, held in same breath and being compared to not just a console game but one PlayStation's crown jewels is an achievement in that of itself.

I'm not one for horror games usually, but Lone Survivor: Director's Cut is a surprisingly engaging, charming and enjoyable ride. With multiple endings, some great puzzles and a superb story this game should be in more collections, not to mention another top-notch port from the team at Curve Digital.

Tetris Ultimate truly is one of the best versions of everyone's favourite puzzle title; it's portable like the Game Boy version it came from, it's got tons of modes and options, it includes all the DLC released on other platforms, and it runs like a champ. If you like puzzle games, or are any kind of Tetris fan, then this game is simply a nobrainer. Buy it.

With a brilliant story and clever-yet-challenging puzzles, Grim Fandango Remastered is a brilliant adventure game that has stood the test of time. With characters that ooze life and charisma yet remain undeniably dead, this tale of comedy-noir is undeniably one of the genre's greats and a PlayStation Vita must-buy! If you picked it up for free as part of the PlayStation Plus IGC and haven't played it - what are you waiting for!

Brad Gruetzmacher @vongruetz vongruetz

Although the “Legacy Edition” approach has undoubtedly raised a few eyebrows, there can be no denying that your first impressions when playing FIFA on the Vita is very good. An almost perfect port of FIFA 11, the game will keep you occupied for a while as well as looking almost identical to the PS3 version. You can go for Football, 13 or 14 as they all offer the same experience, just don’t buy FIFA 15, as it has no online.

The comparisons with Nintendo's character brawler are obvious, but what is here is more like a fighting game, and has a great amount of depth within. With great visuals, a huge roster and a tremendous amount of fun and nostalgia, you'll be hard-pressed not to enjoy this. 38

A true hunting game that PS Vita fans deserve. Packed with a decent story and great mechanics, this game can go toe to toe with the behemoth named Monster Hunter. With numerous weapons, pieces of armor, and arts to master, there are hundreds of hours waiting for the most dedicated Vita fans out there. With a summer release in the west, action fans should not miss out.

You can always rely on Bandai Namco to produce a great RPG and Tales of Hearts R is one of their finer works on Vita, featuring a likeable cast, a massive world to explore and a easy to learn hard to master battle system, Tales of Hearts R is a must have for fans of the genre.

The PS Vita is home to many fantastic indie titles; games with retro art styles and basic gameplay. Sometimes it is nice to be reminded of what the PS Vita really is capable of and Samurai Warriors 4-II is a prime example. With huge maps, frantic large scale battles and awesome swords, this hack 'n' slash title kept me coming back with its addictive and challenging battles.

Jhonatan Carneiro @JhoCarneiro JhoCarneiro

Fast-paced, arcade experience which blends perfectly with handheld gaming. Resogun is a twin stick shooter with so many fantastic qualities. One of the PS4's stand-out launch titles, it feels at home on Vita and has very few performance compromises. Whether playing it alone or with friends (via Online or Ad Hoc), you'll surely have fun while saving the last humans.

Jenny Jones

@Kitty_has_Klaws Deathskitten It's easy to dismiss as a bit of a grind but once you get into it it's surprisingly tactical. There are a lot of difficulty spikes but there's something very addictive about it which will make you want to keep going back to it. There's a surprising amount of content and a lot of customisation which will keep you busy for literally hundreds of hours.

Kerry-Lee Copsey @Kezz182 Kezz182

In this top-down 2D dungeon crawler from developer Edmund McMillen, Isaac must battle his way through randomly-generated levels, discover secrets, and collect bizarre power-ups to drive off hordes of monstrous creatures and escape his twisted mother. This definitive version from Nicalis features updated visuals, a brand-new soundtrack and an insane amount of content that's sure to keep you occupied for a couple hundred hours.

@MyrishMartyr MyrishMartyr Spelunky is one of my favorite games. Between its grueling difficulty and great design elements, the roguelike really holds your attention. Spelunky offers a lot of exploration and trial-and-error when you find yourself getting obliterated by the many different enemy types. On top of that, the game has many secrets you can discover, which are fascinating. @PSVitaMag

You must have heard of Minecraft, right? You probably have, but you'll most likely be wondering what it's doing here in the chart. At the core it's a game about surviving, resource gathering and exploring and generally passing the time to your heart's content. There another side - creative - which allows you to build anything that you can envision in blocky format. Don't be fooled by the simplistic 8-Bit visuals, if you can think it, it won't look too far away from the real thing - especially with one of the more aesthetic looking skin packs. A massive time sink, cross buy and save with the PS3 version (so you can play on the bit screen at home and carry on away from it) aside from the expected visual compromises this is almost identical to the other console versions. The game also has four player multiplayer, which makes the building even more fun. As long as your friends don't destroy your creations...

Freedom Wars is a game that deserves to be on everyone's must have list. It's a fresh feeling take on a genre that seems to only have one heavy hitter. It follows a unique story and with a completely different play style that makes you feel like you're in complete control of everything around you. The direct sequel to Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair has you thrown back into tragedy as your school year somehow warps into imprisonment on an island. With the risk of death from your schoolmates around every corner, a new location to explore, and an end that'll blow your socks off, Goodbye Despair does well to offer a fresh take on the first title while still staying true to its values. The sequel to Roll7's amazing OlliOlli, OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood is a game that does something that sequels rarely do these days; improve on the original in every way. Welcome to Olliwood has bigger levels, more routes, more tricks, a manual/revert system, flashier graphics (while still keeping its unique retro style), and better score tracking - all the things a prospective pro-skater or score-chaser could want. Danganronpa. It's a name spoken quite often in the Vita community, and for good reason; it's one of the best story-based experiences you can have aside from Persona. Set in a school specifically for Ultimates (the best at their individual talents), you - as the ultimate average student - are introduced to an intriguing mystery, tossing in the threat of murder from your schoolmates as a motivator. Including social elements like Persona, a trial system like Ace Attorney, and an intriguing set of characters and plot points... this is another one of those games that pull you in and makes you care. Just don't get too attached, as this one's a bit of a massacre!

Persona 4: Golden, also known as the game that spawned a generation of RPG players, is a dozens-of-hours-long, story-based RPG with dungeon battle elements and social elements thrown into the mix. Somehow, it all comes together to create a very immersive experience that pulls you in and makes you care about (and enjoy) your time with the characters and environments you'll encounter. It's a very unique role-playing game that is a "gateway title" for many gamers on the system, and is also one of the best stories ever told in a video game.
