As you know, this is our “Superbowl XLVI” edition so I’d also like to welcome you to our city of Indianapolis. the brightest of brightwood: a community centered on youth and those in need For 45 years, the Brightwood Community Center has organized and created programs for youth such as The Kids Club(currently 40 kids enrolled with plenty room for more) and The Annual Summer Camp for children in the surrounding area. At the BCC, free tutoring is available, after-school on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. During this time, youth in The Kids Club program, receive tutoring from current and former teachers and other educators. These sessions are compromised of homework help, basic literacy skills aside from school assignments and through a 5 year grant with the National Council on Educating Black Children, Brightwood’s Community Center also offer computer-based learning and assessments. These programs help students develop math and reading comprehension skills as well as writing skills. Although the main focus is to educate, the

center also has recreational time for boys and girls. However, if any girl 9-11 years of age would like to learn conflict-resolution skills can take advantage of this service provided by the collaboration with Girls Inc. Be informed the Brightwood Community Center also serves as a food and clothing pantry. Eligible participants are able to come to the pantry where they receive a bag of food, various articles of clothing and other donated materials. If you live in the Martindale-Brightwood area, the center offers a bus transport for those without their own transportation. Keep in mind the center and pantry is open during the day from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. It Doesn’t Have to Stop Here: wytonia’s strive to keep a life By KRYSTAL luster

Does everything in life go as planned? Are promises kept word for word? If only. Life; no matter how much we may prepare for it, is too unpredictable. Even choices made with great intentions can result horribly. But at times, somehow end up being one of the few great decisions we make. I would like to share a story many people may find relatable. It is a story about a then young girl who made a choice and how that choice forever changed how she would live. Like me, Wytonia Johnson was raised in a strict home. A home where you were expected to do what you’re told, when you’re told and how you’re told. At the age of 15, Wytonia was active in karate classes. Classes she ended up taking while being 3 months pregnant. Her condition never occurred to her because she was still menstruating regularly. But it wasn’t until her 5th month she began to panic. With constant weight gain and no sign of “mother nature”, Wytonia knew what her body was telling her. In her 6th month, she told her mother about missing her period. Both went to a doctor’s appointment where the obvious was confirmed. After informing Wytonia’s father, the three discussed it as a family. Wytonia made it clear there would be no abortion and that no one in the family would be raising her child. She was determined to make a way for the new life growing inside of her.

Today, the modern family is broken and lacks in unconditional love, honesty, faith and trust. People allow their differences to get in the way and give up before finding common ground.

JacQui S is based in Tampa, Florida where she infuses her music and style with an international flair, making those who listen, fully engage in the melodic experience and ponder the possibilities. She penned and recently launched two singles “Number 1” and “Be Happy”. JacQui S is an accomplished songwriter and artist who just celebrated her 18th birthday on Christmas Day. You don’t have to like everyone but I do believe they should be loved. Despite Wytonia’s parents being disappointed, they maintained their faith in her and loved her enough to not see her fail. I can vouch being a teen mom isn’t easy but when you stop and think, it isn’t as hard as most make it out to be. If you’re at a point where you don’t want to be in a similar circumstance, I suggest you stop and analyze your actions before continuing to make the same decision.

School remained a top priority and even with all the odds against this young mother, she beat them. Teen pregnancy has its downfalls but people soon forget faith whenever a curveball is thrown. Not just faith in God but in family, close friends and in one’s self. Having a baby doesn’t have to be the end of the world at any age or any circumstance. Sure these things happen untimely but you have to ask yourself what you were doing to prevent it. We don’t have control over everything, whether it’s getting a job, applying to a certain institution of higher learning or falling in love with that specific man or woman. The best we can do is our best in all we are faced with. Take advantage of the good and make the most of the bad. Despite Ms. Johnson’s unexpected setback, she endured. She graduated high school with a business diploma, graduated from ITT Technical Institute with a Tool Engineer Degree in 1994, and even went a step further, earning an Associates Degree in Business administration from Indiana Business Col-

Maybe it’s just me, but “getting married” seems to be more of a trend than tradition these days. But despite this new craze in society, divorce rates have yet to lower. Who is at fault for this? In my opinion, women are too wrapped up in the idea of a “picture perfect wedding” rather than focusing on what really matters: their vows. How can you want to start a new life with someone but continue living the life of an unwed woman? You may be wondering why I’m pinpointing females, so I want you to think about something: How many women have you hung around that are recently married or are engaged to be married? Think about the number of couples you’re aware of who are now divorced from a marriage that didn’t stand a fighting chance. This whole wedding business is just a woman’s game and I say that because its women who plan and prepare for “their day” whereas most men would be happy just shaking up. It’s just sad to see something good turn bad. I just hope these ladies can let their old ways go and start taking their vows to heart.

Wasn’t long ago we had our first sit-down with Chu and now he’s back again with more news and updates about business, blessings, “Baby Girls” and the Midwest’s role in today’s music. Last time we spoke, you were in the midst of pushing your new project. Has there been some billboard success with it? Yea, we hit #3 with “Gone” and #7 with “Black America” featuring Scarface. However, I came across some law enforcement problems so it slowed up my push, so we about to launch the project all over again. You know we’re not going to stop until we get that #1 spot. How’s working with the legendary Too Short? It’s a blessing because he doesn’t do too many shows with artists who aren’t “on his level”. But he accepted me with love and even mentioned putting the single on his album. This experience was a nightmare turned into a dream and he’s backing me 110%. We had a chance to hear your previous project, “Monstas of the Midway”. Have you always had your ear to the street for good music? Yea, that’s where it all started. I had labels offer me millions for it but I just couldn’t sell what I felt I was building. I brought two brothers together to show that the style of the Midwest is a movement, not just an area. I was on the run so I didn’t get to push it like I wanted, but it still made a lot of noise and gave the world a chance to see that the Midwest had talent. Your single “Gone” is having quite the success. What will be your follow up single and why? “Get Loose” Cause the getting loose in the clubs. It’s the single with Ali of the St. Lunatics and we’re getting a lot of love with it. Then it might be with an Icon on a song with me and Kurupt.

You mentioned a group named “Baby Girls” last time. What’s their status and when will we hear more about them? They should be out in the Spring. They have a playful song called “Get off this Wii” which is perfect for young kids. There just doesn’t seem to be many kid friendly songs out anymore but thankfully the music being made is

playful and age appropriate for fans. Baby girls will be great role models for young ladies and have their foot in the door already being honor roll students. Is it true that you’re making a major move with your label? If so, when? Yep, the legendary Tony Draper has signed on to run my label and we are about to sign a major icon. Draper is coming in to show me how to get my business right. In about two weeks everything will be finalized and I’ll reveal who the icon is that we signed. But things are going to be major. With this move will you be putting the mic down and go back behind the scenes or keep on both hats? I am going to keep doing both. I have unfinished songs I did with Nalon and nobody can do them like I can because I am Nalon and Nalon is me. So, I’m going to bring it like I bring it. I have a lot of music that is sure to anoint the soul. In the next 5 years when people say U.C.O.N.N., what will they say right after? People will say, “That’s the label who reps the Midwest”. “No one had to leave to get a deal”. I’m going to be the Midwest Def Jam. Plus we are going to give kids a place to go, to use their talents and stay out of trouble. Have there been any conversations between you and the majors about merging in any form? Or are you still planning to stay independent? Yea I sat down with EMI. I told them I want to do this my way and I can’t give them the power to control my situation. They would have to make an offer I just can’t refuse and I don’t see that happening any time soon. What other ventures are in the works that we can expect from you? Draper and I, have a lot of things on our “to do list”, so there will be plenty good business going around. He liked my testimony so we’re in the works to start movies, tours, and a clothing line to name a few investments Any last words? Me and Kurupt, “Don’t make me unload” coming real soon. CEO of his own label, Wod-G courageously stepped up to the plate to a failing company, grabbed it by the horns and steered it in the right direction to move forward. A businessman, friend, motivator believer of God and artist are just a few characteristics that make up who he is personally and socially. We recently took a moment to get a closer look at the very well-rounded Wod-G and here is what he had to say. Wod-G, tell us who you are and where you’re from. I do rap music but I’m an artist by trade from Detroit. I’m a Muslim as well and I’m well known throughout the city. From what we hear, you have an interesting background. Tell us more about it. My background is founded on loyalty and that loyalty is a big part of how I operate in everything I do. From my music, to my team CIGM and my personal life. You’re only as good as the belief in yourself and the support from others. I’ve been driven by my own will since 13 or 14 and along the way, met great people and have established unbreakable bonds with them.

Being from the Great Lakes, do you feel you have a chance for major success like other artists in your area? In my opinion, I only feel there are a few who have actually “made it” from here. However, I’m positive, respectful, humble and show love when it’s due. And with that attitude I feel I have as good a chance as anyone trying to make it. But it’s so much hating going on here and I’m thinking about venturing out elsewhere and see how people feel me in other areas. What single are you pushing right now? I wrote it as a diss record to anybody (rappers) claiming they’re this and that but don’t have shit to show for it. We heard your music. Do you have any CDs or mixtapes out? First mixtape; “CIGM presents Young Ox Affiliated Vol. 1, is out right now. Got an upcoming solo mixtape/street album “Spoils of War” hitting the streets early March. It’s pretty much about getting “the goods” of this world by overcoming life’s battles. What are 5 things people can get out of your album? Reality, motivation, passion, inspiration and guidance. My hope is that people will take a listen and take what they get from my music and share it with people they know. Who are some of the people you’ve worked with? On my current project, I have Rob from Day 26, Beenie Segal, Freeway, Helluva, Olympics, K- Deezy. A lot of people really. We all made a classic right here. What can we expect from you in the near future? If you see what I’m doing now, picture it going into overdrive. Gonna be going harder and pushing to new limits. Just be on the look for different projects; music, videos (On the Scale) and interviews (Don Diva Magazine). 2012 is going to be our year and me and the team plan on going hard throughout. Anthony Dorsett Jr., is a former NFL player who was drafted in the sixth round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers (now known as the Tennessee Titans). Anthony played four seasons with the Titans where he made his first Super Bowl appearance as Starting Free Safety in 2000. After starring in Super Bowl XXXIV with the Titans, he joined the Oakland Raiders in 2000. During his four year tenure in Oakland, Dorsett and the Raiders won the ACF Championship, which led Dorsett’s second Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl XXXVII. Throughout Anthony Dorsett’s eight year career in the NFL, he has committed to bringing understanding, compassion and financial assistance to youth all across America. This commitment was further reinforced through The Anthony Dorsett Jr. Foundation where Anthony is a recognized speaker, mentor and trainer. Dorsett does motivational speaking for churches, football camps and youth organizations. He is also currently working with

the youth in his local area through his Dorsett 33 Camp. Dorsett has always graciously maintained his commitment to his community. While with the Tennessee Titans, he served as spokesperson for the Toys for Tots. Throughout his football career he participated in community service events to eradicate sickle cell anemia. While in Oakland he functioned as the Raiders spokesperson to the Boys and Girls Club. He also joined forces with Bless the Children Foundation, where he not only appeared in their Celebrity Bachelor Auction, but he was also a key financial contributor. Together, Anthony and the foundation gave away over 2,000 holiday dinners and hundreds of toys to underprivileged children. Anthony has successfully transitioned from the NFL to a career in the entertainment industry where he has appeared in film, television, and is pursuing additional opportunities including theater. Most recently, Dorsett co-hosted a 2011 Super bowl XLV television special “Dorsett Round Table” on Fox Sports Southwest with his legendary father, Tony Dorsett. Quite the father and son duo; Anthony and his father not only appeared together on “Dorsett Round Table” but also teamed up as guests on The Mo’Nique Show on BET in 2010. The dynamic duo also joined efforts with the Gift For Life Foundation for their 2011 Superstars Super Bowl Charity Gala. Prior to that Anthony Dorsett hosted both BET’s MADD Sports show for the 2

full seasons and NFL Network’s Total Access for a week, doing live broadcasts daily. Anthony has hosted and presented in various award shows: BET’s 25th Anniversary, the 2009 NAACP Image Awards and the 2011 Cache Awards. Anthony starred as the lead character, Shane, in the independent film, ‘Losing Faith’, released in 2008. He wrote an editorial column for ‘BrothaOnline.com magazine; appeared in multiple commercials; and was a commentator/radio personality with WTN Sports Radio in Nashville, TN. Born in Aliquippa, PA, Anthony was raised there and Weirton, WV. Anthony is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh,

with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Communications. His father is Heisman Trophy Winner and Hall of Fame Inductee Tony Dorsett. lives and careers. The greatest thing about it is that I get to know more about the people I interview. One of the challenges I’ve had to face is trying to find the right people to bring into the show. I take this show seriously, and not everyone understood that. Trying to find people who understood the process and were hard workers was the hardest. It’s been rough, but I’ve been blessed to have had great guidance and mentorship to getting on the right path. It’s been a wonderful learning experience and anything worth having is worth the struggle. If you’re connected to the social networking world via Twitter, Facebook, Oovoo, Google+, Skype, Voxer and maybe even Myspace, maybe you’re wondering just what else is out there. Global 14.com is a social networking site and is also in support of several individual and independent radio programs on the internet. We recently had an opportunity to catch up with the creator of Global14 Radio, Crush. Where did the idea to create your own radio station originate from? I have a daily routine of logging in to Global14.com and talking to people from all over the world. I finally wanted to hear their voice so I set up a conference call line, posted it on Global14.com and it went crazy with it. Hundreds of people called in to that chat line, even Jermaine Dupri, and I immediately thought: “We need a Global14 Radio Show”, I created it and JD supported me in doing so. What is Global14? Global14 is your Ultimate Social Networking vs “social notifying” which is what twitter and facebook are. Global14 is where the “lifers” (users) get to truly socialize and discuss topics and likeness, building their own groups, using the platform to network, create synergy and get immediate feedback. Have you always had a love for radio? I’ve always loved the programs I listened to, but after starting my own show, I’ve become such a fan of every show there is out there. It’s definitely broadened my horizons. All of the shows out there have become great learning tools for me, and given me a whole new found passion. It’s great!

Name some of the challenges you’ve faced so far? Definitely overcoming my shyness. I’ve never been one to pry in other people’s business, so it’s a chall enge to ask people questions about their personal

How do you balance being the executive producer, as well as being a host on one of the shows? It’s very hard because I have to be the example; I set the tone for the rest of the team. If I fail, then everyone else fails. SO, I take this very seriously, maybe too serious at times but that’s because I really care. What role if any does Jermaine Dupri play as far as G14 Radio? JD has given me most of the creative/producing control, but I run them through his associate to make sure they are consistent with the brand. If he has any suggestions he’ll let me know and we’ll implement them to the shows. If I have any concerns, I can always reach out to him and he’s always supportive and helpful. For the most part, his people have been great at making sure the show is on track. I get daily follow ups and they are hands on with every show. We are using his name and his brand, so there still is a format that needs to be submitted so there is great level of professionalism. Where do you see the station in the next few years? Well, right now we’re working on getting our equipment and the set together to start shooting live streams. We have a Vegan Program that’s in the works, along with a fashion & beauty segment, sports and travel. There aren’t any limits. We hope to eventually get on a network like Sirius.
