SITE DETAILS : -Site area - 1.47 hec -Average family size - 5 person per dwelling Dwelling sizes 65 sqm , 95 sqm 120 sqm (usable floor space). -65sqm 40% 95 sqm - 40 % and 120 sqm 20 % of the total number of the dwelling . -Number of dwelling - 255 units -Public amenities - 10% of the total site area. In an apartment typology, after studying some of the existing structures i realized that there is huge problem of communication in such higher income groups apartments and even people living the same floor are unknown to each other. The circulation spaces are dead spaces. Common spaces should be designed to increase the interactions on different levels, The engagement with the ground and nature decreases as we go along the top, So we tried to create a ring of houses instead of towers opening, upto the community space that has public gardens and outdoor games,
but also took care of
the privacy of each house. Each units on the ground floor were given a backyards to enjoy the ground element and the larger units were arranged as pent houses to enjoy the sky element .

DESIGNING A UNIVERSITY OF DESIGN SCHOOL OF APPLIED ARTS
In this semester we touched the layers of master planning by
SITE DETAILS :
designing a university of design. The program was to design one

space and residences for both faculties and students . We tried generating understanding about usage of different types of connectivities, reasonings of zoning and appropriate positions of places according to its usage and relations between each other.
Existing site plan
We surrounded the institutes and administrations around the craters so that each person gets the chance to treat the edge where the craters lie. Around the craters was planned a walking and cycling rings that connects to the main plazas. Every institute has a plaza for their respective entrances that was then connected to the primary road of circulation .
The part of the site which is highlighted as green is the part in which we have zoned the plots for institutes and administrations. We wanted to give these places a closer view and connect to the craters as there places are going to get used by the people for longer time. The plot marked here is the plot for school of applied arts .
The craters located in the centre of the site which add to the beauty of the site .
Proposed master plan
Above plans are cycling track, different types of trees alloted to each road and padestrain pathways respectively.

I chose to design the school of applied arts and understand its requirements in our context . BRIEF : It is 4 years course in which 1st year is the foundation
course
and rest 3 years are specialized courses in the following areas :Graphics design, advertisement and publishing ,Printing technology ,Exhibition, product design NUMBER OF USERS: total intake of students = 100 Students in each specialized area = 20 each Number of faculty = ratio of 1:20 20 (from which 12 is permanent and 8 are visiting faculties)

The idea was inspired by the architecture of my own college where the informal spaces teaches us more than the studios, so i started with a simple idea of making a street that cuts through the middle of the structure, tried making small pockets in between the circulation spaces to increases chances of engagement amongst the students.
The street culminates in the clusters of the studios which are multipurpose spaces,as it is a design college spaces can be arranged in different fashions and also used for exhibition purposes and so the furniture is kept movable.

WHAT IS NARRATION ?
-PROCESS THAT ESTABLISHES CONNECTION BETWEEN ONE’S PAST EXPERIENCE AND THOSE OF OTHERS .
WHAT STAYED IN MEMORY?
-40 TONS OF GAS LEAKED FROM THE FACTORY KILLED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN A NIGHT. -LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE STILL SUFFERING.
CAUSES OF A LARGE SCALE DISASTER
Vietnam war memorial Campus of taj mahal
NARRATION AND ARCHITECTURE -IT ELICIT DIFFERENT EMOTIONS. -POTENTIAL TO BRING BACK MEMORIES THROUGH DESIGN. -SPACES HAVE CERTAIN ATMOSPHERE WHICH INFLUENCES EMOTIONAL STATE OF PERSON.
THE CASE: BHOPAL GAS TRAGEDY

-FORM -MATERIAL
-QUALITY OF LIGHT -SCALE AND PROPORTION

WHAT IS THTE SITE SAYING ?
- THE SITE HAS TANGIBLE REMINDERS OF DISASTER WHICH ARE DISINTEGRATION.
- THE RUINS AND EXISTING STRUCTURES ARE THE PHYSICAL HEART OF THE SURVIVOR’S MOVEMENTS BY SOCIAL ACTIVISTS
WHAT IS THE PAST SAYING ?
RECALLING THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE SITE.... - SITE LEFT UNTOUCHED SINCE YEARS - BARREN LANDS - LOW LYING SMALL HOUSES - PEOPLE IGNORANT TOWARDS THE SITE - EXISTING METAL STRUCTURE AS REMINDERS
- THE TRAUMA, PAIN AND AGONY OF THE VICTIMS TO BE EXPRESSED - SURVIVOR STORIES, THE UNSUNG HEROES WHO TRIED TO PROTECT THE CITY ARE YET TO TOLD .

- VISITORS ENTERING THROUGH THE PRESENT CONDITON OF THE SITE. - A PASSAGE THAT LEADS TO MEMORIAL PASSING THROUGH THE FUNCTIONAL SPACES - CREATING A SUBTLE MOVEMENT INSIDE THE SPACE.
- NARRATION IS DIVIDED INTO 3 PARTS 1. BEFORE THE EVENT 2. THE NIGHT OF TRAGEDY 3. AFTERMATH - STITCH IT WITH THE EXISTING AS NODES OR PAUSE POINTS.

THE PATH TO MEMORIAL The key features of the site were its atmosphere created by the trees, land, existing road networks and the ruins. So during the placement of all functions i opened up the old entrance for the memorial structure and the present day entrance leads to the public place which is opened for the local people visiting for recreational purposes. The core idea of the design is to create a journey where the existing nature of the site becomes a part of narration itself. The journey

towards the memorial path starts from a passage which has members of rusted metal just like the one in the existing factory. The three parts of the narration are stitched together with pause point where there are sitting spaces and vast view of the site for the people to keep engaged with the story and site simultaneuosly.
