Two Wells & Districts
Premiership Edition
OCTOBER 2012
Est 1978
PREMIERS Tw o Wel l s
Two Wells took out this year’s Adelaide Plains Football League A grade premiership for the first time since 1987 in fine style. In a wonderful display of teamwork, passion and determination, and with the players hungry for premiership glory, the young side took on an experienced Virginia outfit in the season decider at Mallala on Saturday, September 15. Coached for the third consecutive season by Mark Thomson, Two Wells beat their across-the-river archrivals by an impressive
20 points; 15.7.97 to 11.11.77. WoodvilleWest Torrens recruit and former local lad, Jarrod Allmond, was named best on ground and also contributed two goals. With a sea of red and white adorning the boundary, the premiership was not only a win for the club but also for the community as a whole. The final siren will no doubt be a moment the players and supporters will remember for the rest of their lives, and many hope will be experienced again next season.

Little Ella Shipton, pictured here with her mum, Amy Duncan, is the face of the Two Wells Red Cross for the year 2012/2013. Ella is the granddaughter of locals, Pam and Barry Duncan.
Ella our next entrant
In other Red Cross news, little Ella Shipton has been chosen as the next “face” of the Two Wells Red Cross for the 2012/2013 year. One-year-old Ella is the daughter of Amy Duncan and Michael Shipton, and is the granddaughter of Two Wells locals, Pam and Barry Duncan. The family is planning to raise funds for the Red Cross through raffles, one or two sausage sizzles and possibly a thrifty fashion parade.

Institute sparkles after major ‘facelift’ It has been a long process but repairs to the heritage listed Institute building in Two Wells are finally complete. Around $85,000 has been spent on the project, with grants received from the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program ($58,000), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Heritage Fund, ($10,000). The District Council of Mallala has contrib-
uted the balance. The building is currently home to the Two Wells Public Library and was first opened in 1878. Works carried out include salt damp repairs to exterior walls and internal repair of cracks, repainting inside and out, and replacing red bricks. The stage area, where most of the changes can be seen, has had the rear windows and doors replaced, with the rear steps repaired including new slate. The stage floor was

sanded and repolished, window grills were installed and a decorative handrail was also added to the outside steps. DCM strategic infrastructure coordinator, Paul Kleghorn, who oversaw the upgrade of the building, said he was pleased with the results and looked forward to the building seeing in another generation of Two Wellians. n Sixteen-yearold Two Wells resident, Jordan Waters, in action. Jordan is competing in his fifth Australian National Junior Motocross Championships in Coolum, Queensland this week.
The daring, high-speed, highflying sport of Motocross isn’t one most parents would pick as their child’s dream sport. But for Two Wells/Middle Beach residents Cheryl and Daryl Waters, it’s the one their only child, Jordan, has chosen. Despite playing junior football for Two Wells, 16-year-old Jordan can’t imagine his life now without motorbikes in it. He was given his first bike at the tender age of four and has been competing competitively since the age of six – and he’s pretty good at it too. Jordan currently rides for the Josh Dunstall Moss Institute Suzuki Racing team and is competing in his last year of juniors. He is taking part in his fifth Australian National Junior Motocross Championships in Coolum, Queensland, from September 29 to this Saturday, October 6, after finishing fourth in the local series. Riding a 250cc Suzuki, Jordan’s home track is Port Pirie, but he regularly competes at venues across the state and around the country, including MRA at Wingfield, Murray Bridge and venues in Queensland, Mildura and Horsham. “He would ride somewhere probably almost every weekend of the year,” proud mum, Cheryl, said. “He wanted a motorbike when he was three but we waited until he was four.”
Jordan revving up for world success Bec O’Brien reports:
In year 11 at Trinity College, Gawler, Jordan takes every measure he can to keep and stay fit. As well as wearing all the appropriate safety gear, which is heavy and hot, he trains a few times a week at a private gym and practices on his bike almost every day. The sport is trying on both the mind and body, but Jordan is adamant he wants to take his riding to America and Europe, and hopes to attend Millsaps Training Facility in Georgia, USA next year. The facility is a specialist motocross-training centre. “I’m a pretty competitive sort
of person, and you have to be in this sport,” Jordan said. “It’s the most demanding sport in the world; you’ve got to have the mental strength to keep your physical strength.” Injury in this sport is also fairly common, which is to be expected where you’re travelling at 60 or 70 km/h knee-to-knee with 40 other motocross riders. There is not much room for error. So far in his career Jordan has fractured his right leg, broken his left wrist, endured a compound fracture of his left leg, broken his right hand, torn the ACL in his shoulder and been concussed. Watching from the sidelines is heart-in-mouth stuff for Cheryl and Daryl, but they couldn’t be more proud of Jordan and his commitment, passion and drive. And they acknowledge the risks are there, just like in any other sport. Who hasn’t heard of someone doing a knee in netball, tearing a hamstring in footy or snapping their Achilles in soccer? “Motocross is more than just a sport, it’s a lifestyle,” Cheryl said. “The friendships are very tight, and this is what Jordan loves doing. He lives and breathes it.” As well s his school studies, Jordan is also training in electrical work at PEER trade school at Albert Park one day a week. Keep an eye out for Jordan in the world of motocross in years to come; he could well be Australia’s next top rider.
More debate on CWMS plan M allala’ s p r o p o s e d $3.8million community waste management scheme (CWMS) has stalled, with the District Council of Mallala receiving a number of objections to the project. After the official community consultation period closed last month, DCM chief executive officer, Charles Mansueto, said council had received 44 submissions against the scheme, which would see around 300 homes
Two Wells Echo, October, 2012
connected to a community waste treatment plant. Many submissions were concerned about the cost, with property owners having to foot the bill for connection from their septic tank to the street. “Council received a number of submissions as part of the consultation process but before it makes a final decision to proceed or not it will be seeking broader input from the community,” he said. “Council
has now resolved to undertake a survey to seek further feedback from the community on the project. “As part of the survey further information will be provided to residents to ensure they are fully informed of what is being proposed, the implications if the CWMS proceeds and also the implications if the system is not progressed.” The survey should be sent out to properties involved by the end of October.

Sophie’s popularity grows
Bev Molloy discussed propagating her much-loved dragon tree with gardening guru, Sophie Thomson. Local ladies Jenny Dowling, Rae Spurling and Judy Heaslip enjoyed Sophie’s advice and were pleased with the giveaways
We should take plant labels with a pinch of salt, sow new plants in autumn, spend more time preparing the soil and have at least 50 percent of our garden that needs no watering. This was the advice well-known ABC and Sunday Mail gardening guru, Sophie Thomson, gave to an enthralled crowd of almost 100 at Two Wells Bowling Club on Wednesday, September 19. Speaking frankly and humorously for almost an hour, Sophie’s knowledge of the plant world was seemingly unlimited, and her advice for keen gardeners in the area was to the point, and specific, right down to what attributes to look for in water-wise plants. “I’m definitely on the side of the plant,” Sophie told the gathering. “I want to encourage people to garden and to win at gardening (and) it’s just as important now of being conscious of how to build a water-wise garden, as it’s ever been.” Creating water-wise gardens and establishing microclimates were reoccurring themes throughout the presentation, with Sophie encouraging residents to look at the big picture with climate. “Throw away the calendar and look at what your garden is telling you,” she enthused. “In our climate plants are actually summer dormant, they go
into a state of slow metabolism essentially. “Climate is something we can’t control; the thing we can control is the micro-climate. “This is the thing that makes your garden different from the neighbours down the street. We need to work with nature not against it.” The event was organised by the Two Wells Public Library, which has hosted a number of engaging author events in recent months. Library services coordinator, Anne Sawtell, said the event was again a huge success, with tickets snapped up in days. One of the highlights, Anne said, was the give away of a range of gardening tools and products for those lucky few who were quick enough to answer Sophie’s questions correctly based on her talk. Two Wells Public Library’s final author event for 2012 will once again be held at the Two Wells Bowling Club on Wednesday November 14 at 2pm, where the guest speaker will be Liz Harfull, author of “Women of the Land” and best selling cookbook, “Blue Ribbon Cookbook”.

she said. “I was in tears.” Inny was also judged best of breed for Selkirk Rex cats. “Pedigrees have a standard they are measured against and to win is just fantastic,” Rebecca said. Jayme Kidd of Redbanks, whose mum, Marion Kidd, runs local Two Wells business, Grand Champion Show and Pet Supplies, won Supreme Domestic or Part-Pedigree in Show with her five-year-old female cat Lucinda. Lucinda is a regular on the local show circuit and is a seasoned show-goer. She rates as an Emerald Companion cat, the
third highest level in her field. Jayme said domestic cats, like pedigree cats, were judged on their physical attributes and appearance, but were also assessed on their temperament and companionability, with Lucinda also judged Best Domestic Female Neuter at the show. • The pair will be on show at the All British Cats Society’s annual show on Sunday, October 21 at the Virginia Community Centre from 10.30am to 4pm. The event will showcase a variety of domestic and pedigree cats with over 200 entrants expected. Gold coin donation.

Two local cat owners and breeders have taken out top honours in their respective categories at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show. echo 6 YOU CAN ALMOST TASTE THE CHOC ICE AS BRIAN BILNEY REELS IN THE YEARS: Natalie CenteneRa takes a step back in time to reveal the heritage of a Two Wells icon – the Institute building, now the library. Back in the 1950s it was “Saturday night at the flicks” at the Institute and here projectionist Brian Bilney describes what a night at the movies was like ...
T
he Two Wells Library building is heritage listed and is 134 years old. It shares a rich and colourful past with the inhabitants of Two Wells and was once known as the Institute. The original purpose of the building was as a meeting place for the members of the Institute of Two Wells and Port Gawler, and when it opened in 1878, having access to information from books, documents and indeed other individuals to meet with, was the main emphasis. The Institute was Two Wells’ 19th century equivalent to today’s information superhighway and it was hoped a love of learning would be created in the neighbourhood. Today it is fitting the Institute fulfils its original aspiration as an inviting meeting place for the community as a library. However, many of the younger generation may not be aware of the lively history the Institute has lived and what different functions it provided for the community. Picture an old fashioned ball, dance classes, musical concerts (apparently HMS Pinafore in the 1920s rocked the house), wedding receptions, parties and even movies. From 1946 the Institute was used as a cinema every Saturday night! In an era where the main forms of entertainment were either sport or enjoying a sing-a-long around the family piano, the dances and pictures put on at the Institute provided a meeting place and generated a hub of activity and excitement for the townspeople of Two Wells. Brian Bilney remembers himself as a 13-year-old boy collecting tickets by the side door on the opening night of December 14, 1946, after his father had taken out a lease with the Institute Committee to show films there. Every Saturday night from then on, 52 nights a year, you could find him in the projection booth busily working to make sure the films were presented seamlessly. “I wasn’t paid to do this” Brian tells me. “Dad said I had to,” he chuckled, but also adds, “I found being a projectionist a very rewarding occupation.” The projection booth can still be seen as you walk up the stairs to the entrance of the Institute, and the holes in the wall, where the film was projected out, still remain. Brian was rarely absent from the projection booth even spending his courting years there, while his wife

credits ... for two wells Institute to be, Joyleen Cordon, sat in the back row of seats waiting for Brian to finish. Although Joyleen may not have been able to see Brian while he was working, she knew he was thinking about her as “he would play my favourite music during intermission, a waltz by Johann Strauss,” she reminisced fondly. Speaking to Brian takes you back to yesteryear and he easily sheds light on an important piece of Two Wells’ past that is unfortunately absent from history books on the area. He explained the process of putting on a picture at the Institute. Films needed to be picked up from the Two Wells Railway station in the morning and taken to the Institute to be checked before being shown. This was a long and arduous process as they had to be wound from one spool to another to check for breakages or any damage, as well as being very heavy to carry, which often required two people to lift it if it arrived in a trunk. Every film played has been meticulously recorded by Brian in a series of handwritten diaries that he has since typed out and kindly donated a copy to the Library for anyone who is interested to peruse. The first film shown was ‘The Harvey Girls’starring Judy Garland, with the supporting film being ‘Nothing
Brian and Joyleen Bilney, also shown TOP, in the doorway of the Institute and ABOVE, a poster for the 1958 screening of “Robbery Under Arms.” but Trouble’ with Laurel and Hardy. Although when asked about the most popular film shown, both he and wife Joyleen agree ‘Annie Get Your Gun’, starring Betty Hutton and Howard Keel, created a lot of excitement and was shown four times in 1951 whilst still being screened at the Metro theatre in Adelaide. Just as you see in cinemas nowadays, local businesses were advertised and previews of coming film attractions were shown before the film started, however, what is interesting is the National Anthem of ‘God
Save the King’ and later ‘God Save the Queen’ was played beforehand as well, as this was compulsory by law at the time. The first film began after a short Australian newsreel, which was consistently viewed by the local policeman who would stand at the back of the aisle, keeping a watchful eye on the behaviour of the audience, before heading home. After the first ‘supporting’ film ended it was interval time. “This was always a busy time for the patrons as they used to run across

Port Wakefield road to the local deli, (which is now the Two Wells Pizza Bar), for their drinks, ice creams and lollies,” Brian said. “They had to make it back in time for the overseas international Newsreel, a cartoon, a preview of next week’s film and then the main attraction.” The 1957 Australian film ‘Robbery Under Arms’ starring Peter Finch had a large amount of scenes filmed in Buckland Park, and many locals were able to watch production. “Some locals were even used as extras, and enjoyed the champagne offered after the auction scene,” Joyleen remembers. The pictures were keenly attended for 14 years, with some older patrons enjoying permanent seat bookings. Television made its way into South Australian homes in 1959 and with its growing popularity the pictures at Two Wells ceased showing on January 30, 1960. Brian and Joyleen were kept busy, however, with the Methodist Youth Fellowship Brian had started with his friend Glen Frost a few years before, the first of its kind in South Australia. It is apparent though, screening the pictures at the Institute for the people of Two Wells and surrounding districts, had brought Brian many years of satisfaction. The Institute building itself has enjoyed a kaleidoscopic life from its original conception all those years ago, and quietly holds the memories of days gone by within its enduring walls, you just have to stroll inside and take a look. You may even be able to imagine the young ladies and gentleman of yesterday, eagerly anticipating their first dance, or picture a movie screen with curtains framing an old Hollywood film and the local police officer standing watchfully at the back of the audience making sure you are behaving yourself. protective custody! Members of the Two Wells Community Children’s Centre had a visit from the police last month – all in in the name of fun, learning and safety! Senior Constable First Class, Stuart McColl, of Elizabeth traffic enforcement, whose two young sons attend the centre, spoke to kindergarten children and also those at the adjoining child care centre about keeping and being safe, and the role police play in the community. The eager littlies were shown a variety of police safety equipment, discussed how to ask for help and were given a tour of the inside of the police car. The visit was part of the centre’s child protection curriculum, which has also seen the local CFS brigade drop in.

School choir makes a ‘massive’ impact Members of the Two Wells Primary School choir recently performed at the Adelaide Festival Theatre. The group performed on Saturday September 8 and sang as a massed choir with 21 other schools in a spectacular and colourful performance, accompanied by dance, drama and solo items. For a whole year the members of the choir have been working hard to learn the soprano and alto parts to 14 different songs. The styles of music have ranged from a haunting Japanese melody to an energetic song about the performers of parkour, that gymnastic dare-devil game popular with young people on city streets. Favourite songs with our choir include “Black Fella, White Fella” from the Warrumpi Band, and “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother” originally made popular in the 70s by The Hollies. Previously, members of the choir have performed at the Balaklava Eisteddfod in July, as well as the school’s Grandparents’ Day and school assemblies. – ANGELA HEUZENROEDER

Roosters crowing T
he rooster was crowing loud and long at Two Wells on Saturday night after the A grade football team took out this year’s APFL premiership. It’s been a quarter of a century since the club last hefted the perpetual trophy and, after official presentations at Mallala were completed, players from the team, coaches, family members, club stalwarts and enthusiastic supporters gathered back at the Two Wells Community Centre for long-awaited celebrations. The club was also celebrating the
premiership success of its Under 17 senior colts team who went back-toback premiers, as well as that of the A5 netball team. The community centre was a sea of red and white as club president, Francis Pellizzari, took to the stage amid rousing cheers from the appreciative crowd. Francis remarked how positive and promising it was to see such support for the club and commented it was just the beginning of things to come. He spoke of the hard work, commitment and dedication of not only the club’s
players but also its officials, coaches, and volunteers. Amid boisterous cheers each premiership player from the A5 netball team, Under 17 senior colts and A grade team, were presented with commemorative t-shirts reflecting their 2012 success. In 1987 when Two Wells last won the A grade football title, many of the current players weren’t even born. It bodes well for the years ahead if the club can keep doing what it’s doing and, more importantly, hold onto its young, talented players.

Tinker and community support pony rescue
Support for rescued Palouse pony, Tinker, has been overwhelming, with a garage sale on Saturday September 22, raising more than $2100. Two Wells resident, Natasha Hogan, who saved Tinker from malnutrition and likely death earlier this year, organised the event in aid of Pony Rescues; a Victorian-based group who save and re-home neglected and unwanted horses. Natasha said she was amazed and delighted at the response from the local community. “I can’t thank those who donated enough,” she said. “It was a pretty over-
whelming response and not what I expected and because of the response we’ve decided it will be an annual event.” Pony Rescues founder and president, Tania Decker, travelled from Victoria to help out at the garage sale, and was appreciative of the efforts of Natasha, local businesses and residents. “The event was a massive success,” Tania said. “It was amazing the support from the local community (and) I can’t thank Tash and the Two Wells community in general enough for their passion, caring, support and generosity.” Money raised from

Make your backyard wildlife friendly
Within our district we have a small amount of fragmented (isolated) pockets of remnant vegetation, Fletcher and Camel Reserves, in Lewiston, are some good examples. These areas are very important as they provide many of the resources our local wildlife need. These reserves also illustrate what our region would have looked like pre-European settlement. Unfortunately, you don’t have to look far to see how small these remnant areas are. Since European settlement native vegetation has been subjected to broad scale clearing, resulting in only 14 per cent of pre-European vegetation cover remaining within the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges region.
With Mark Webb
Mallala is within this region with only 1 per cent of original vegetation remaining and much of this on roadsides. Original vegetation of the Northern Adelaide Plains was predominately open grasslands and grassy woodlands. We can never replace what is lost but as a community we can try to reverse this trend. An Understory Project initiated through the Urban Biodiversity Unit Backyards for Wildlife
Program with support by Gawler Environment and Heritage Association (GEHA) and Gawler Regional Natural Resource Centre (NRC) have come together to grow thousands of indigenous plants from locally-collected seeds. The NRC has available 150 boxes of plants for sale until the end of October. Twenty plants per box at $20 each. All you need do is contact the NRC and let them know where you are going to grow these plants and they will select the vegetation suitable for that area. The plants selected for this project are specifically chosen to return wildlife to your property. They will also supply you with fact sheets on the plants you purchase.
This program will continue next year, so put it on your planting calendar. We need to bring our local wildlife back into our communities, and the only way we can achieve this, is to create a wildlife friendly backyard with food and shelter for our native birds, butterflies and lizards. Visit www.backyards4wildlife to find out what you can do to help increase wildlife in your backyard. Know your feathered friends Ever wondered what that bird is? A Bird ID for Beginners workshop will be held in Sandy Creek Conservation Park on Saturday, October 20, from 8am to 11am. A friend who also contributes to The Echo has regular photos of birds that visit his garden; he
PEACEFUL doves in a local backyard has an extensive list, which he is constantly updating. I believe it’s a great idea to know what birds are visiting our region. Birds are good indicators of how healthy our local ecosystem is. By participating in the backyards for wildlife program, this trend can only increase. •For more information relating to Understory Project or Bird ID workshop contact the NRC on admin@nrcgawler.org.au or phone 85237700.

Two Wells Football and Netball Sporting Club celebrated the end of the 2012 season with its annual Redlow event on Friday September 21. Revelling in the club’s first A grade football win since 1987, spirits were high and with the ladies dressed in a rainbow of bright, springlike colours, as well as the traditional black of course, and the men in dapper suits and ties, the night certainly had a festive feel to it. As well as highlighting the year’s success of the club’s three premiership teams; A grade and Senior Colts football, and A5 netballers, awards were presented to the best and fairest players of each team throughout the club. Taking the honours in the A grade football, by just one vote, was local favourite, Khan Leighton, with Woodville-West Torrens recruit and former Two Wells junior player, Jarrod Allmond, runner-up. Khan was also presented with the Neville Seccafien Most Valuable Player award, an honour bestowed upon him by his teammates. To mark the club’s success in this year’s finals, a new award was presented for best finals player and went to Jarrod Allmond. Stephen “Fuzzy” Lange was deemed best team man for the season in the A grade. TWF&NSC life member, John Dawkins, presented A grade co-captain, Ned Seccafien, and Jarrod Allmond with the John Dawkins Medal for highest overall association votes. In the B grade, trophies were presented to Jacob Hart (B&F), Ross Coleman (R/U), Cameron Lamont (Best Team Man) and Luke Tryfopoulos (coaches’ award). In the A1 netball, Adelaide Plains Netball League team of the year members,
Enjoying the celebrations were Peter Seccafien, Gary Farr and Scott Wendland.

Nicole Hardy and Karen Penhall, took out the best and fairest and runner-up awards respectively. New recruit Trisha Beere was awarded the coaches’ trophy. In A2, centre court dynamite, Stephanie Agnello won both the best and fairest and the coaches’ awards, with goalie, Stephanie Walker, runner-up. Cristie Castle was named best and fairest in A3, and was also runner-up in the association. Carly Heaslip, back from having a baby last year, was runner-up and Cassie Kent the coaches’ pick for the season. In A4, Lisa Cocks won best and fairest, young-guns Shannen Weir and Maddy Seccafien were joint runnersup, and Carli Warmington awarded the coaches’ trophy. Maddy also was runner-up for the A4s in the association votes. In the premiership A5 side, goalie Liana Juvan took out the top honours, with Emily Stringer runner-up and Maddy Sayner the coaches’ pick.

Korunye conquers!
Amber James in the high jump event.
Two Well Primary School oval was a sea of colour and a hive of activity on Thursday September 6 as students decked out in their house colours of red, blue, green, yellow and white competed in the school’s annual sports day. A range of fun and challenging activities had students using teamwork, confidence, persistence and sportspersonship to earn points for their house team of Reeves, Wells, Korunye, Light and Redbanks. Led by house captains, the day began with a whole school health hustle to get everybody warm and ready for the upcoming events. Junior primary students took part in a range of tabloid games including the egg and spoon race, sack race, and a bowling accuracy game, as well as modified long jump and hurdles.

REPORT: Bec O’Brien
Primary students competed in high jump, long jump, hurdles, running events and a basketball shoot out event, before taking on each other in team games such as spoke relay and a water relay later in the afternoon. Students from each year level also participated in a whole school baton relay, with the baton starting in the hands of a young reception student and finishing with a year seven student crossing the line. The day was full of fun and smiles, with family and friends coming out to show their support. At the end of the day, the Championship Shield was won by the yellow team, Korunye, with the Attitude Shield presented to the white team of Wells.

Nominations are now open for the 2013 Australia Day Awards
Club’s vision strong I was particularly pleased to MC this year’s Two Wells Football & Netball Sporting Club ‘Redlow’ Medal Count and Presentation Evening on September 21. This event celebrated the achievements of the A Grade and Under 17 football, and A5 netball premiership teams, as well as all those who represent the club on and off the field. A special feature of the night was the presentation of Life Membership to Tanya Kent, Francis Pellizzari and Jock Brechin. Only a few years after the amalgamation of the football and netball clubs, I am delighted to see the club in such strong heart across the board. The focus on the development of young people through sport, and associated roles, is most noteworthy. This aspect has particularly impressed many former club members who returned for the recent grand final day at Mallala – and others who could not attend but have kept an eye on the club’s fortunes from far afield. I congratulate the current TWF&NSC committee, and all others who contribute to the professionalism and vision displayed by the club. Like many others, I look forward to the redevelopment of the clubroom/change room facilities in the near future and note the committee’s request for assistance from the club ‘family’ with this important project. September 15, 2012 – the day the Roosters won their first A grade football premiership for 25 years – will always be a special date in my memory. However, I also look forward to much more success for the club in the future – on and off the court and oval. – John Dawkins MLC, TWF&NSC Patron and Life Member Two Wells Echo, October, 2012
Lower North Gun Club winners at their recent shoot were, left to right, Adrian Mattschoss, Steven Mattschoss, Graeme Gilbert, Jamie Gilbert, Gerald Hopgood, Don Butler, Craig Bentley, Jim Elliott, Jack Tapscott, Don Pollard and Bronte Evans.

PREMIERS 2012 Tw o W e l ls Tw
ADELAIDE PLAINS FOOTBALL LEAGUE 2012 SENIOR COLTS PREMIERS TWO WELLS took out the Senior Colts premiership in this year’s APFL grand final, held September 15 at Mallala, defeating Mallala by 23 points. The final scores were: Two Wells 10.13 (73) to Mallala 7.8 (50).
Young Roosters’ back-to-back glory, A5’s revel in win While the Two Wells A grade footballers were hoping to win their first premiership in 25 years, the senior colts team and A5 netballers were already celebrating their success earlier in the day at the Adelaide Plains Football and Netball League’s grand final at Mallala on Saturday September 15. In the morning, the young Under 17 players defeated Mallala by 23 points, 10.13 (73) to 7.8 (50) to take home the shield and become back-to-back premiers. Best for the game were Bradley Calvett, Nick Seccafien, Jack Henneker, Shannon Slattery, Andrew Pounendis and Harrison Gameau.
Later in the day, over at the netball courts, the A5 netballers took on Hummocks and won, 39-28. Playmaker and goalie, Liana Juvan, was named best on court. Two Wells Netball Club also had its A4 and C1 teams in the grand final but unfortunately, both were defeated. In the A4 netball, Balaklava won 42-35 and in the C1 match, Two Wells lost to Hamley Bridge 30-25. A gutsy effort by all involved and an impressive feat by the club to have all teams, across the board in junior and senior football and netball, take part in finals action this year.
ADELAIDE PLAINS NETBALL ASSOCIATION 2012 A5 PREMIERS THE Two Wells A5 side were crowned premiers after vanquishing Hummocks 39-28, in the APNA grand final at Mallala on September 15. • Pictured is the winning team, back from left: Michelle Dimasi, Sarah Dinham, Hannah Bamford, Zoe Grant, Lauren Bywaters, Jemma Wilmshurst, coach Juanita Hamilton.
