In tune with festive season

A beautiful spring evening was the perfect backdrop for Two Wells Primary School’s annual End of Year Carols on Tuesday December 6. With families and friends gathering on the oval and enjoying the pre-show sausage sizzle, the stage was set for the classes of 2016 to show their creativity and style. Pictured above ready to hit the stage are Reception students Jamie, Mia, Heidi and Momo. More photos page 9 – Bec O’Brien

barbecues. Two Well CFS covers a huge part of the Light region and attend incidents such as bush, grass and rubbish fires, car crashes, fires and assist SAAS with patient lifts, attend alarm trips, gas leaks, and much more. Each financial year we monitor the type of incidents attended to determine training areas needed for the volunteers. Since the 1 st July 2016 we have attended 83 calls. That is an average of one call every two days. Incidents attended: Car accidents / vehicle fires: 47 House/ structure fires: 5 Grass fires: 10 Other: 21 We have had a remarkable increase in car accidents where five have resulted in the need for the patient to be air lifted in the Rescue 1 helicopter. We are therefore urging all residents to please

drive safe and think of others on the road, do not drink/ drug drive as we approach the silly season. Do not become a statistic on our roads / be present for next years festive season, not a memory. Last year saw the biggest, fastest bushfire many of us have ever seen with the Pinery fire. Sadly many lost so much including loved ones, so as we approach another hot dry summer we urge you to be sensible, stay safe and be bushfire prepared. Have your evacuation plan in place and stay safe this summer. Our brigade is always looking for daytime crew especially during the week, Monday to Friday when our other volunteers are working. We would also benefit in people who hold their HR license as drivers during the day is often a challenge too. Two Wells CFS would like to wish you a merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year.

Welfare integral part of pig farms A day in the life of grower, Andrew Goss n What is your name and what is your occupation? My name is Andrew Goss. I am a pig farmer, owning and operating my own piggery.

Bringing you the bacon, piggery owner/operator, Andrew Goss.

The inside of a modern piggery - stalls have been replaced with free range group housing.

n Describe your usual day, starting from when you get up to when your head hits the pillow. As an owner I am on call 24/7. I usually leave home anywhere between 6 – 7am. My day involves overseeing the piggeries, which means plenty of driving between the properties. I travel between Two Wells, Dublin, Brownlow (near Eudunda), Mannum and Lameroo. Some days of the week I may stay the night in Mannum or Lameroo, however, most nights I am home by 6pm, the phone, however, rings constantly. n How long have you been in this industry? I started in the industry at the bottom of the ladder, working for other operators. I worked weekends, doing all the mundane jobs like power cleaning pig pens until my father gave me the opportunity to build my own piggery. I still continued to work for another piggery owner, until my own piggery became all too time consuming.

the years, which has been something I have diligently worked at. One of my career highlights is the relatively recent acquisition of the 600 sow piggery at Brownlow (Eudunda). This piggery has been built particularly well and as far as piggeries go ‘is a dream’. Over three large piggeries, the sow numbers equate to 2,500 and this markets an average of 1,000 bacon pigs per week.

n What studies/requirements do you need to fulfil to be able to do this type of work? There are no particular studies required to enter the pig industry. Owners employing workers are seeking interested, hard-working people. Having an affinity with animals helps, however, reliable individuals who have the most valuable attribute of all, ‘common sense’, are sought. Workers with these qualities are like ‘gold’ to have in one’s work place. n What do you enjoy about being a piggery owner/operator? I enjoy being self-employed. I have great respect for my 25 employees, they are a fabulous work crew. I have been able to expand and grow significantly more pigs over

n What type of changes have you seen in this industry? Animal Welfare has become an integral part of owning piggeries. Quality Assurance has evolved significantly and must be adhered to, and paperwork is a large component of owning animals destined for human consumption. Most significantly, stalls used to house a sow that is not feeding piglets are to be eradicated by the end of 2017. Owners have been working towards replacing their stalls with free-range group housing. n What advice would you give to anyone who is looking at entering this occupation/industry? Entering this occupation as an owner – be prepared for the long haul, it is many years before you would expect to see any return on your purchase. And you need a sense of humour, because some days it appears the pig gods are challenging you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS Two Wells Scout Group cub leader Steve Cummins with some of his “pack”, including Olivia MacDonald, Sophie Zachoryj, Cameron Hoppo and Hayley Walton.

Labor of love for Scouts’ Steve For Two Wells Scout Group cub leader Steve Cummins, the last 20 years volunteering for the group has been a labour of love. Recently bestowed the honour of a Meritorious Service Award at a special ceremony at Titanium Security Arena in Adelaide, Steve has long been a staple at the group. Starting in 1996 as a Joey (6-8 year olds) assistant leader, Steve quickly completed the required study and practical components to become a fully-fledged leader and has been cub leader for the group since 2010. This role sees him lead 8-11 year olds through a range of Scouting activities, community service and adventures. It is this sense of adventure, as well as the spin-offs of friendship, fun learning and teamwork that has seen Steve, along with wife Maxine, and their four children, go through the ranks at Two Wells Scouts. Two Wells Echo, January, 2017

Bec O’Brien reports: “I like giving things back to the community” Steve explained when asked why he continues to be involved in the group even though his children are all grown up now. “They are learning so much that I didn’t learn as a kid. “It’s just terrific. “I love to see the kids reaching their potential (and) they don’t have to be good at things to join in.” Steve especially loves the camping and outdoor activities associated with Scouts but is quick to point out there is something for every child. “It’s about teamwork and building life skills,” he said. “I absolutely love it.” Congratulations Steve on a welldeserved award.

Character building result for Two Wells Primary School LEFT: Two Wells Primary School finished third overall in the recent state First Lego League robotics competition. Pictured (from left) are team members Angus, Alan, Jack, Logan, Lockie, Shania and Victoria. Absent Joel. PHOTO: BEC O’BRIEN

Two Wells Primary School’s robotics team has won the “Rising Star” judges special award at the state’s First Lego League competition last month. The school also finished in the top three overall from 34 entries. First Lego League is a competition catering for upper- primary and lower-secondary school students where teams of up to 10 students build, program and compete with a robot, while also learning about a real world problem and developing solutions for it. TWPS principal, Lynda Fitzpat-

Bec O’Brien reports: rick-Brown, was thrilled by the team’s success. “What an outstanding effort in their first year of competition,” Mrs Fitzpatrick-Brown said. “The students must be congratulated for the work they have put in all year, in their own time, to achieve such good results.” “We are all very proud of your achievements.” The school’s science teacher, Mike Hawkey, has been mentoring

the students throughout the year and was proud of their efforts, particularly their commitment, dedication and teamwork capabilities. Mr Hawkey said the competition was a reflection of what the school’s science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) program had been working toward over the last couple of years. The school was recently chosen to receive a $1m grant to improve its STEM facilities. “This is really the pointy end of what is possible with our STEM program,” Mr Hawkey said.

“I see this as representative of what we can do in our school in the area of STEM. “We’re hoping to build on the success of this year, with the students taking the experience of one year into the next year.” TWPS team of eight, which included Lockie, Angus, Alan, Shania, Joel, Logan, Jack and Victoria, were known as the “Tactical Wizards”. The competition for this year was based on the theme ‘Animal Allies’ and for student Lockie, the experience was a big thumbs up. Lockie wrote in his school news-

letter about the competition. “For our project we chose to do a problem that has been going on for many years and that was trophy hunting and poaching,” Lockie explained. “Our solution to this problem is growing lion fur on a tree and growing lion heads on a flower. “We are not going to make this solution happen but it’s our idea on what can happen.” Mr Hawkey said the school would love to make the national finals of the competition, which is held in Sydney, next year and would be working hard over the next 12 months to do so.

Two Wells Childcare concert Bec O’Brien reports: Two Wells Community Childcare Centre held its annual Christmas celebration on Friday November 25. A lovely spring evening greeted families as they enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Children who access the centre loved the face painting, jumping castle and disco, and the popular event was a chance for extended friends and family to get to know the facilities and grounds of the site. After the sausages had been eaten and the cake stall had all but sold out, it was time for the main event – the children sharing some of their favourite songs. As parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends gathered round, those little people, many soon to start their schooling journey, capped off a lovely evening with sweet, pure voices.

It is hard to believe I am writing my last column for 2016 - the year has certainly flown by. In extending season’s greetings, it is timely to reflect on highlights and challenges. On a personal note for Donna and I, the arrival of our first grandchild was a significant event and one that continues to bring us great joy.

With mixed emotions I read the Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission report that was released on 8 December, with the news that Two Wells, Owen and Hamley Bridge are to shift out of Goyder (to be renamed the Narungga electorate) and into the electorates of Taylor and Frome. I am saddened to lose Two Wells, Owen and Hamley Bridge because I have developed friendships and good working relationships with so many individuals and groups in recent years in these districts. However, I am pleased to gain the townships of Port Broughton, Bute, Alford, Snowtown and Lochiel.

Natalie Centenera reports:

The Angle Vale Lions hosted their annual Christmas Car Boot Sale at Virgara Winery on December 6. Families enjoyed a jumping castle, sausage sizzle and browsing stalls at the picturesque location. The Angle Vale Lions are a “small and friendly club,” president Dorothy Lewtas said. “We are quite pro-active, even though we are young, and we are always looking for new members.” The club has raised a significant amount of money for various community projects such as a shelter for the new playground and sponsorship for a hearing dog. The club was instrumental in the revamp of the Anglesey Estate sign and are looking at further community works. For more information please email anglevalelionsclub@gmail.com.

Mobile phone and internet coverage also continues to be an issue, as does the new Royal Adelaide Hospital (which remains empty and without an opening date in sight) and Labor’s Transforming Health plans/rollout. Complaints about health services remains the number one topic I am contacted about, followed closely by the state of our roads. The State Liberal Party has released (and throughout 2017 will continue to announce) the following significant initiatives to reduce cost of living pressures, and stimulate the economy and jobs growth: • Pledged to remove Labor’s massive increases to the Emergency Services Levy to return $90 million per year to property owners • Introduce a Local Government Rate Capping scheme • Conduct an independent inquiry into water pricing to deliver fair & efficient water prices • Establish four Entrepreneurial Schools (two in Adelaide and two in regional South Australia) • Deliver an independent inquiry to address crippling energy prices, and continue to investigate demand management strategies and acceleration of large-scale battery storage technology; • Implement a 10-year moratorium on exploration of unconventional gas (fracking) in the Limestone Coast area; • Make foster care and kinship care payments available for young people up to 21 years of age; and • Enhance public sector efficiency and cut Labor’s wasteful mismanagement. Discussion about time zone changes, nuclear storage and voluntary euthanasia have featured in Parliamentary debate for all elected Members. As Shadow Minister for Planning, the debate on the 240+ pages of legislation for the Planning Development and Infrastructure Bill, with its near 400 amendments considered, and now its intricate staged roll out of new systems, has demanded a lot of time this year (and last). Weather events have also been a feature this year, with rain, hail, wind and floods impacting many. Let us hope 2017 presents less of these challenges. Best wishes to all for the festive season.

Two Wells girls awarded for community service A new and innovative program initiated by long-time community service group Rotary, has seen two local students achieve the Junior Community Award this year. Two Wells Primary School students Ella Goodson and Carla Harris, both 11, embarked on the award earlier this year, with the support of teacher Paula Napper and deputy principal Ann-Marie Ellis. The Junior Community Award program was designed by teachers and parents to give children a focus in four main aspects of community life including; community service where children help other people; skills, where children will learn a new hobby or interest; physical recreation, with the accent on participation as well as performance, and social experience where children take part in a range of activities including a community celebration, a community meeting, a cultural exchange, a religious experience and an arts

Bec O’Brien reports: performance. Ella and Carla were both given a diary and handbook to guide them and found the program both challenging and rewarding. “You get to do a lot of new experiences,” Carla said. “But I was also able to include things like my CFS cadets, netball and basketball games. “It helps kids create a healthy life.” Ella said the program enabled her to meet new people and to explore things outside her comfort zone. “I went to the music festival and I’m not normally one of those people that enjoy watching choir, so it was good in that way,” she explained. “I also went to Fiji on a family holiday and was able to show that as a cultural exchange. “We got to meet some Fijian

Grey Wolf gong for local Scouts Bec O’Brien reports: Scouts honour, these two young ladies can read a map. They also know how to use a compass, pitch a tent and lead a walking expedition. These are just some of the things Two Wells Scout Group members Emma Sharpe and Brooke Walton have demonstrated on their way to achieving the highest award in the cub section – the prestigious Grey Wolf award. The Grey Wolf is no easy task, with a number of specific requirements to meet and Scouts’ badges to obtain. It has taken the pair 2-3 years to complete the set requirements for the Grey Wolf, some of which include an overnight camp, an outdoor activity such as canoeing or hiking, an activity involving cubs from another Scout group, and a bush walk of at least two hours. The 11-year-olds have been at Scouts for about five years and love the diversity the organisation gives them. “I love being able to do the outdoor activities,” Emma stated. “Planning and leading the hike was a lot of fun.” “I enjoy the tech side of things a little more,” Brooke said. “Learning to use the GPS was great.” Congratulations girls, what an inspiration you both are.

A twisting, testing tale Each month the Two Wells Book Club will bring you a review of the book that had been read by the group the previous month. The Book Club meets once a month at the Two Wells Library. We hope you enjoy the segment and are provided with an opportunity to engage with some books that you might never have though to pick up and read. This month’s book is One Sunday, by Joy Dettman Christmas is upon us and time is scant, however, if you Two Wells Echo, January, 2017

Book Review are looking for a murder mystery with a clever twist then “One Sunday” may pique your interest. All book club members who had the time to read the chosen novel this month (it is a busy time of year!) were very impressed with the story and style of writing by the author, Joy Dettman, who has been called one of Australia’s unsung literary talents. After the Great War, racial hatred has taken grip in the fictional Victorian town of Molliston, and

As Minister for Disabilities and Member for Taylor, I recently visited the Department of Defence at Edinburgh to meet ten people with learning and cognitive disabilities who have been employed with the Department. Disability services organisation, Barkuma, won a three year contract with the Department of Defence to provide administration support. Responsibilities include timeconsuming tasks such as confidential document destruction, binding, scanning, packaging and setting up meeting rooms which allows staff to concentrate on their critical duties. This program enables those involved to interact with the general workforce and to develop a more diverse range of skills. It also demonstrates to the local community that people with disability have a contribution to make to society. The Defence Administrative Assistance Program (DAAP) began at the RAAF base in June 2016 with a team of 13 people—10 with disability, two supervisors and one Coordinator from Barkuma.

Joe Reichenberg, a German, has fingers pointed in his direction after a young bride was found dead close to his property. Set in 1929 within a 24 hour period, as the title of the book suggests, the twist and the culprit left readers bewildered and surprised. Cleverly woven within a historical context, Dettman has managed to capture a moment and sentiment in time that brings to life the past in a way that is understood and felt by those living in the present. www.twowellsecho.com.au

Students let loose in Adelaide Zoo By Year 6 student Keyan De Wet reports: On Thursday the 17th of November Rooms 25, 28 and 22 went on an excursion to the Adelaide Zoo. It was a wonderful, sunny day. When we walked off the big yellow bus we waited outside for 5-10 minutes to get in our organised groups. My group was a group of 15 children including me. We also had to have an adult with us, our adult was Miss K. After we got organised we went inside. The zoo from the outside was really tall and it was also really fancy. The first thing we saw was actually not an animal; it was the skin of a beaver that had passed away. It was soft, silky and smooth. There was also a turtle’s shell. The first actual animals we saw were the hippos. They were as huge as three barrels. They were also grey and laying calmly in the clear blue water. After we saw the hippos we decided to see the cute furry otters. All of the otters looked really cheeky. After the otters everyone kept bugging the teacher to go to the new playground so we went there and everyone was so relieved. The playground was really fun and awesome. It had four mini trampolines, a huge slide, logs to walk on, a bridge and an elevator for people who have disabilities or just can’t do it. About five minutes later we had our recess. I had a delicious choc chip muffin with crispy golden chips and a creamy chocolate. After we ate we went to the reptile house. There was a crocodile with skin that looked like sandpaper. There were also lots of slithery snakes. When we got out of the reptile house we went to the petting zoo to see lots of fluffy goats. There were also sprinklers to cool the animals down but instead nearly everyone ran through them to cool off. On the way back to the gazebo we saw some wallabies and ate our lunch. We also had frozen juice boxes that Miss Anderson bought. After lunch nearly everyone was tired. We walked around the zoo some more and eventually caught the bus to go back to school. The day was really fun, hot and interesting! Two Wells Echo, January, 2017

Trudy is Roseanne’s roadside angel Roadside Angel When Roseanne Trimboli was caught in an emergency recently it seems she had an angel watching over her. On December 8, Roseanne pulled her car over to the side of the road in Gawler as her son was vomiting. He had started to choke and she needed assistance to help get him to hospital. Along came a ‘guardian angel’ – a lady who came out of nowhere, saw she needed help, jumped in her car and drove them to the hospital. This lovely woman then stayed with Roseanne and her son until hospital staff saw them. In the midst of the panic Roseanne didn’t catch the woman’s name and put a message out on Facebook to find her. The following day the angel in question was revealed as Trudy Jones, who works at Ray White in Two Wells. “I will be forever grateful,” an emotional Roseanne stated. That’s compassion, care and quick thinking right there by Trudy. Good onya.

Give pots extra TLC Some gardening notes for January from the Amateur Gardener… For those of you who were fortunate to receive a potted plant for Christmas remember that in the hot month of January they need extra TLC. Keep the water up and remember to provide shade, if necessary, and a fortnightly liquid fertiliser will prolong the flowering period. AMATEUR Always remove water GARDENER from the pot plant saucers as that is a haven for the mosquitoes to breed. The plant is useful to bring in beneficial insects and can be planted in and around your vegetables and roses as a decoy for aphids. Angle Vale Primary fete a ‘must do’ Angle Vale Primary School’s annual fete is fast becoming a “must do” on the school calendar. This year held on Thursday November 24, the event attracted many school families, relatives and friends, with the lovely spring evening capping off the evening. Classes had spent some time preparing and organising a range of fun activities for the event, including a plant stall, wet sponge throw, Christmas craft activities, lucky-dip games and second-hand market. The school’s choir sang a few songs during the evening, and the face painting and jumping castle were big hits with the younger crowd. The sausage sizzle, canteen and doughnut van were well patronized and all in all it was a fun fete with a great atmosphere.

Immanuel Antonas and Michael Menadue get a little wet at the water sponge activity.

The birds where named CAT, CAS, CAU, CAR and now we can all watch the progress of these birds as they travel the world, via the Gray Plover facebook page. The data gained from these birds will provide everyone worldwide with information on the sites that these birds visit to feed, roost (rest) and breed. I believe watching these birds travel the world is a great way for people young and old to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the importance of protecting our coastal areas so when these birds return our coastal landscapes are healthy and productive in food resources. Sanctuary will play an important role in protecting these areas into the future. I am lucky to have a number of friends who live within our area and we catch up as much as we can. I have spoken about my friends previously as they inspire me to write these articles not because they are greenies, which many are not, but I try. When I visit them I am able to view their properties and from there I can get a good insight into people’s backyards. I was having a drink with my mate Duncan the other day and from the corner of my eye I saw his goanna, a regular on his block. It came within a meter of us, looked at us both and then casually went down his burrow, which we didn’t know was there until then. He has told me that we will have to move the table so we don’t disturb it. When you value your wildlife you get so much more from them, it’s even better when you have close contact with them. My friend Scott made me a nest box and now I have a pair of Crimson Rosellas using it. I have told him of my contentment that I get from watching these birds and now he is going to make more boxes so we can put some up in his trees as well as our friends. We all can make a difference in creating a better environment for our wildlife. It’s called sharing our experiences and knowledge - it’s not that hard.

Recently I was invited by Adelaide Plains Council Coastal and Estuary Officer, Warrick Barns, to assist a group of volunteers who were using cannon netting to catch birds along our coast. The group of volunteers were from the Victorian Wader Study Group (VWSG). This group travels acrossVictoria and South Australia collecting data to support the conservation of waders and terns. Waders and Terns are a term used to identify shore birds, and at this moment in time up to 27,000 birds are travelling from Alaska, Siberia and even Russia, and will call our coastal areas home for the next couple of months. These birds will spend their time feeding along our coastal beaches. They come here to escape the freezing winters of the Northern hemisphereandwillreturntobreed in the summer months. To catch these birds it’s an early start to be there at 6am. I and a number of the group sat behind the sand dunes waiting and listening via two way radio, to the conversations from a group on the beach whose job was to encourage (Twinkling) the birds to move into the catching area before the cannon nets could be fired. When the nets were fired its all action – you need to get to the net as fast as you can to ensure the birds in the net are retrieved safely and as soon as possible. There are strict protocols in place to ensure the safety of the birds remains paramount. We caught four Gray Plovers; these birds are migratory and are one of the species that they had been trying to catch. Once the birds were caught they were weighed, measured, photographed, tagged and very small tracking devices were carefully harnessed to their backs.

Discus Nationals for our Adam TWPS Year 7 student Adam Ludewig competed in discus at the national athletics championships last month.

Two Wells Primary School Year 7 student Adam Ludewig has more than exceeded his own expectations in the sport of discus by earning a place in the state team, which competed at the National Athletics Championships in Sydney last month. A member of the Gawler and Districts Athletics team that took part in the state championships at Santos Stadium earlier in the year, Adam took out the boys’ 12 and under discus event with an impressive throw of 32.7 metres.

Speaking of the experience, Adam said it was a little daunting but awesome overall. “I was pretty nervous but I just went out there and gave it a go,” he said. “I thought it was excellent and fun, and I made new friends.” A keen guitar player, the 12-year-old has just graduated from TWPS and will attend Gawler and Districts College next year where he hopes to pursue his music interests.

TWF&NSC life member John Dawkins is pictured here with fellow life members Dennis Pellizzari and Brenton Applebee, and Adelaide Plains Council councillor Eddie Stubing at the club’s AGM last month.

Bec O’Brien reports:

Dawkins chairs AGM Two Wells Football and Netball Sporting club held its annual general meeting on Tuesday November 29, with club patron and life member John Dawkins invited to chair the election of the 2017 office bearers. While Francis Pellizzari was again elected president of the football club,

This personal best throw saw him selected in the state team, only the second student from TWPS in the past 20 years to achieve this. Selected in the 12 and under boys’ discus squad, Adam, of Two Wells, joined a team of around 50 year 5-7 students from schools throughout the state. At the national championships Adam threw a solid 29.9 metres and placed 9th overall. He was also able to give shot put a try at this event.

the netball club is at present without a president – a role that must be filled for the club to contest the APNA competition. Elected as TWF&NSC vice president for the upcoming season is Michael Slattery, taking over from Tony Lange, while Alison Goss and Tanya Kent retain their roles as

secretary and treasurer respectively, for another season. Senior football manager for the 2017 year is Adrian Daly, while Greg Spurling again has picked up the junior football manager role. Taking on the senior netball manager position is Kate Lange, with

Melanie Sochacki putting her hand up for the junior netball manager role. Pre-season fitness training has already begun for the senior footballers, while netball trials will begin in late January or early February. Check out the club’s Facebook page for more information.

Women’s football got a muchneeded boost recently when the Adelaide Crows held a special promotion for females in football. Maddison “Missy”Thomson, of Angle Vale, was lucky enough to attend the females-only carnival at AAMI Stadium on December 8 and according to her mum, Briony Thomson, she had a ball. “It was a girls only footy carnival hosted by some of the Crows female players as a promotion for girls football,” Briony explained. “It was a great day (and) a fantastic promotion for females in footy. “Lots of girls are talking about having a go at footy now. “They loved being able to tackle and kick some goals.” As well as some match play the girls practiced specific football skills such as marking, kicking, goal accuracy and tackling. If this has piqued your interest, head to the South Australian Thirteen-year-old Maddison Thomson, Women’s Football League Face- of Angle Vale, jumps high during one of book page for more information. the activities. Two Wells Bowling Club Report

Twilight bowls breaks By Irene Giannikos Two Wells Bowling Club has been running twilight bowls on Tuesday evenings since October 23. The final session for 2016 was December 14 and the competition will re-commence on 10th January 2017. This year points scoring was introduced to provide competitiveness. Points are awarded individually so whether you come with a team or on your own, you will still accumulate points. It has been great to see Two Wells football coach, Neville Seccafien, coming out with a team and although they haven’t won the Fasta Pasta vouchers yet, they have Two Wells Echo, January, 2017

won the encouragement award. Lawn bowls is a great form of gentle exercise and with twilight bowls there is the added bonus of having fun. You will be very welcome if you come along and you can bring your family and /or friends. If you want to join in, come to the bowling club at 6.30pm wearing flat-soled shoes. Cost is $7, which includes a snack. Thank you to our sponsor, Patchi’s Pizza for the pizzas on December 5. The Saturday Pennant teams are a mixed bag with the top side (who were elevated this season) losing to the top sides by just a few shots. The second side is in second place and the third team is in the

top four – a great effort as they were also elevated after winning the pennant last season. The Men’s Wednesday Pennant teams are struggling with the top side in 6th position with four wins and the second side in 10th position with two wins. The Ladies Thursday Pennant team is just outside of the four with six wins. The TWBC Taylor Cup team hosted the round on Sunday night November 29, with eight clubs present and all greens full. President Phillip Devlin and Wayne Stauwer were kept busy cooking the steak sandwiches, which were in high demand. We wish you a healthy and safe 2017 and hope to see you at twilight bowls in January.

Cricket run-down I hope everyone will enjoy their time away and play a bit of backyard cricket on Christmas day with the family. Under 11: Nov 25: Jack Hankins took 2 for 19 and Tyler Moyle 1 for 6 against Angle Vale at home leaving Two Wells to chase 129 for the victory. Blake Harris was a stand out with the bat scoring 22, which pushed the total to 89 at the end of days play. Dec 2: Angus Spurling and Alex Daly made a 23-run opening stand against Salisbury North. Angus even carried the bat to the final ball of the day. Two Wells 5 for 58. Salisbury North responded with 5 for 84, both Alex and Michael Daly took a wicket each. Dec 9: The rivalry between Two Wells and Virginia doesn't even get a break during summer when the cross-town rival match played at Two Wells. The host team made 6 for 85 with Angus Spurling again scoring big, making 19 not out. Virginia won on the last ball due to some umpiring discrepancies with the no ball rule and simple miss field, which saw two Two Wells boys collide.

Under 13: Due to scores not being uploaded I cannot give too many details for these games. I know Two Wells fell 34 runs short chasing down Eastern Parks’ total of 176 in the game held at Dwight reserve on the 26th of Nov and 3rd of Dec. Also Two Wells has a huge task of making 284 against Angle Vale so we will find out next issue if they can do it or not.

Womens Nov 28: I’ve witnessed some stupid acts in my time and probably was involved in a few myself but I have never seen anyone commit themselves to stealing the bails before a game of cricket. But then I told myself "we are in Elizabeth". Two Wells started off with all guns blazing putting together a 25run partnership in the first four overs, then the mini collapse happened, with some miss-timed shots, which saw Two Wells bowled out just after drinks for 58. Monica Keyes top scored with 18 and Nicole McCallum made 10 runs too. Rose and Crown gave themselves a 30 run lead at stumps. Dec 5: After one of the girls retired, Jess Pool bowled the next batter with the next ball giving her bowling figures of 1 for 17. Leanne Pool (28) saved an outright loss by batting the entire 28 overs in the second innings after Rose and Crown declared 2 for 112. Dec 12: In hot conditions, Two Wells had to field against Angle Vale who had

Report: Devon Hardiman TWCC President Photos: Devon Hardiman & Bec O’Brien trouble hitting boundaries in the lush green grass. Mel Sochacki took 2 for 27 and Monica Keyes two catches plus a wicket to leave Angle Vale 111 at the end of the days play.

Mens Nov 26: The second week of the Central United game saw Lachlan Goss take 5 for 12 to restrict the visitors to 85 and Two Wells pushing for the outright win. Central United batted the rest of the day out with only two wickets in hand. If there were a few extra overs of play the game probably would have gone to Two Wells. Caleb Edmead and Will Hart picked up their first wickets of the season while Travis Wake (3 for 32) and Lachlan Goss (2 for 25) did the rest of the damage. Dec 3: Having some ex-grade 1 cricketers and sitting second on the ladder, anyone would have doubled their money for Salisbury North to win when they travelled to Two Wells. Will Hart again top scored with 73 and almost batted the entire day out, which made way for debutant Aaron Dart, who hit a rapid 20 runs off 17 balls including a monster six. Two Wells finished all out for 181, a task made harder if you remember from last season when Two Wells bowled them out for 110 chasing 120. Sharp catches in the field and tight bowling saw Salisbury North bowled out before drinks. The only glimmer of light for them was when Pete Seccafien came on first change and failed to finish over being banished for too many head height deliveries. Even when Will Hart came on to complete the final ball he too balled a wide. Captain Dylan Wise then took it upon himself to get Two Wells on track with 4 for 7 and Steve Lynch 3 for 12. Dec 10: The roller coaster season continued with Lachlan Goss being ruled out until the New Year so Two Wells went to Salisbury West hoping a slightly less experienced bowling attack would get them the points. A total of 63 extras were bowled for the day, which equates to an extra 10 overs plus it makes the extras the leading run scorer on the day. A few umpiring decisions didn’t go their way and catches went down in slightly windy conditions but Salisbury West managed 211. Two Wells had almost every player make it to double figures however only Dylan Wise (39) troubled the bowling attack. Two Wells all out for 168.

Caleb Hagenbucher for Two Wells made a run out with this throw at the stumps.

Ready for their match against Virginia on Dec 9 was Noah Henwood, Lachlan Sochacki and Blake Harris.

Left: Two Wells U13 cricketers Ben Cattell and Ryan Dimasi.
