2024 Hydrangea Festival Guide

Page 1

The 2024 Keepsake Poster includes 12 images of gardens and flowers that have been featured since the festival began. Available online at capecodhydrangeafest.com and at gardens while supplies last.

The Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival is an annual summer garden celebration, showcasing gardens and plants of all kinds across Cape Cod. This ten-day festival’s main attractions are the daily tours of private gardens, each designed and maintained by the individual homeowners and carrying a unique charm. You are sure to enjoy such eclectic spaces, not to mention the good feeling of supporting a variety of local nonprofits which will benefit from the proceeds of each tour.

Gardens are only one part of the festival. Enjoy workshops and lectures presented by leading horticulturalists, discover promotions at participating nurseries and home centers, learn proper hydrangea pruning techniques, or even watch a painting demonstration by local artists.

The Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival is made possible by support from our sponsors.

Cape Cod Itinerary

Walk our miles of pristine coastline, revel in our arts and culture, and reclaim childhood memories of seashells & sandcastles. See magnificent whales migrating just offshore and immerse yourself in world-class creative and recreational opportunities. Indulge in the freshest seafood, play 18 holes on our lush fairways, and savor our breathtaking scenic beauty.

Across the Cape, you have fifteen towns with fifteen different sets of personalities, favorite ice cream shops, eclectic take-out seafood places, and little boutiques selling every kind of knick-knack, keepsake, and memento, each like a scene in a painting then there are the tours, attractions and unique venues.

UPPER CAPE

Falmouth is home to Nobska Point Light, Shining Sea Bikeway, Spohr Gardens, Highfield Hall and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Considered a gateway to Martha’s Vineyard; the Steamship Authority offers ferry service to the island from Woods Hole. Or take the ferry from Falmouth onboard the Island Queen to Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard.

From Falmouth, take an excursion to Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod. The Sandwich Boardwalk allows groups to enjoy views of Cape Cod Bay. In late spring, Heritage Museums & Gardens presents a display of Dexter rhododendrons. Or visit the Sandwich Glass Museum featuring a wide range of rare glass, including glass from the local Boston & Sandwich Glass Factory, which was founded by Deming Jarvis in 1825.

MID-CAPE

Suggested Activities:

Harbor Cruise onboard Hy-Line Cruises, take a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket, a visit to the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum, JFK Memorial, Cape Cod Maritime Museum and the Zion Union Heritage Museum.

Enjoy shopping or a group dinner on Hyannis Main Street and then travel to West Yarmouth to experience Cape Cod’s newest interactive museum: Whydah Pirate Museum, featuring real pirates and real treasures.

LOWER CAPE

Looking at Cape Cod as a flexed arm, the towns around the elbow — Brewster, Harwich and Chatham — make up the Lower Cape. With beautiful ocean vistas, a much-photographed lighthouse and dozens of shops along Main Street, Chatham’s walking village attracts thousands of visitors each year. Beginning with the town of Orleans just past the cape’s “elbow,” is the Outer Cape, which includes Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. Don’t miss Truro Vineyards.

OUTER CAPE

With unspoiled beaches and the Cape Cod National Seashore, the Outer Cape is far removed from the other more suburban parts of the Cape. When approaching Provincetown, the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum is the first thing that comes into view. Standing at 252 feet, the monument commemorates the history of the Mayflower Pilgrims. The Provincetown Museum at the base of the Pilgrim Monument features a collection of exhibits that depict important events and people in Provincetown history and U.S. history.

Take a whale watching trip or a dune tour on Art’s Dune Tours to conclude a memorable group tour to Cape Cod.
