HEAD FOOTBALL COACH DENNIS FRANCHIONE Beginning his 30th season as a head coach, Dennis Franchione is looking to lead Texas State to its second-straight winning season in the FBS ranks in 2015 after becoming the first coach in the last 32 years to lead the Bobcats to three non-losing seasons in the last four years. Franchione led the Bobcats to a 7-5 record last season despite putting in new offensive and defensive systems. He converted Texas State’s offense to an up-tempo attack that resulted in Robert Lowe becoming the school’s first 1,000yard rusher in five seasons, Tyler Jones developing into the most accurate passer in school history and Texas State ranking among the top four most improved offenses in the nation. He also added a new defensive coordinator to his staff and Texas State produced a Fourth-Team All-American linebacker and Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a pair of NFL Draft picks. A Franchione enters the 2015 campaign looking to build on last season’s success by leading the Bobcats to their second-straight winning season, a feat that Texas State has

accomplished just one other time since he led the school to back to back winning seasons in 1990 and 1991. He returned to Texas State in 2011 and began the process of leading the Bobcats in their transition to the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). During his first four seasons, he led the Bobcats to 23 wins and at least six wins in three seasons during that span. Franchione enters the 2015 campaign with a 210-126-2 career record. He is one of just four active NCAA Division I FBS coaches and one of just 18 FBS coaches all-time to record 210 career victories. He began his head-coaching career at Southwestern College in 1981, and compiled a 14-4-2 record in two seasons. The Builders also won a conference championship and had a victory in the 1982 Sunflower Bowl. Following the record-setting season, Franchione was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee Tech for two seasons before being named head coach at his alma mater, Pittsburg State. During the next five seasons, he led the Gorillas to a 53-6 record and five conference titles with a combined 37-1 conference record before being named head coach at Texas State in 1990. He led the Bobcats to a combined 13-9 record in the next two years as the Bobcats posted back-to-back winning records for the first time in the Division I FCS ranks. Franchione coached his first FBS team at New Mexico, and led the Lobos to their first bowl game in 36 years. Then, he turned around a 1-10 team at TCU and led the Horned Frogs to a 28-19 victory over USC in the Sun Bowl in his first season and to inaugural Mobile Alabama Bowl in his second season. He went on to transform a 3-8 Alabama team into a 10-win squad two seasons later. In his first year, he led the Crimson Tide to a 7-5 record and a victory in the Independence Bowl after they began the season with a 3-5 mark. He also led Texas A&M to a nine-win season and three bowl games in five years.

108 SEASONS OF BOBCAT FOOTBALL Texas State enters its 108th season of playing intercollegiate football in 2015 with an all-time record of 503-421-26. The Bobcats began playing football in 1904 when they posted a 5-1 record. Texas State did not play football in 1942, 1945 and 1946. The Bobcats have won 13 conference championships during their history. SECOND TIME AROUND In addition to Dennis Franchione returning to Texas State as head coach in 2011, two other members of his staff previously coached at the school. Assistant head coach, co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Schultz was a secondary coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas State in 1990-91. Defensive line coach Mike Hudson was a student coach in 1987-89 and graduate assistant coach at Texas State under Franchione in 1990 and 1991. He returned as linebackers coach from 199500 and defensive coordinator in 2001-02 before rejoining Coach Fran in 2011. NEW COACHING STAFF MEMBERS Texas State will have just one new assistant coach in 2015, as Ashley Ambrose will serve as the cornerbacks coach. Ambrose comes to Texas State after coaching last season at Idaho and playing 13 seasons in the NFL. He also coached two seasons at California and three years at Colorado. He also served as an NFL coaching intern at Atlanta and New Orleans. TEXAS STATE IN SEASON OPENERS The Bobcats enter the Florida State game looking to win their 60th season-opening game. Texas State owns a 59-32-2 record in season-openers dating back to the 1919 season after winning their last three season-opening contests at Houston (30-13 in 2012), Southern Miss (22-15 in 2013) and against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (65-0 in 2014). The three wins give Texas State eight wins in their last 10 seasonopening games. The school’s longest winning streak in season openers is seven games in 1962-68 and 1978-84. The Bobcats are 5-1 in season-opening games under Dennis Franchione. TEXAS STATE IN ROAD GAMES Texas State posted a 4-2 record in 2014 road games to mark the first time since 2008 that the Bobcats won four road contests in a season. Three of the wins came against Sun Belt Conference games, marking the third time the Bobcats won three conference road games in the last 31 years. TEXAS STATE VERSUS NATIONALLY-RANKED TEAMS Texas State plays a nationally-ranked FBS opponent in a season opener for the first time in school history when the Bobcats travel to Florida State (No. 8-coaches/No. 10-AP).

7

The Seminoles are the highest ranked FBS team that Texas State has ever played. The last time the Bobcats played against a nationally-ranked opponent was Sept. 21, 2013 against No. 25-ranked Texas Tech. The Bobcats also played No. 18-ranked Louisiana Tech on Nov. 10, 2012 when both schools were in the WAC and at No.15-ranked TCU on Sept. 19, 2009. FIVE OF LAST SIX ON THE ROAD This season marks the fifth time in the last six years that the Bobcats will open their season with a road game. Texas State enters the Florida State game having won its last two season-opening road games at Houston and Southern Miss after dropping a pair of games at Texas Tech in 2011 and Houston in 2010. Texas State owns a 2-2 record in its last four season-opening road games. The only home game the Bobcats played during that stretch was in 2014 when they beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff. THIRD YEAR IN SUN BELT Texas State plays its third season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. It marks the first season since 2010 that the Bobcats will play three straight seasons in the same conference. Texas State played its final season in the Southland Conference in 2010 before playing the 2011 campaign as an independent. The Bobcats were a member of the WAC in 2012 before joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2013. TWO STRAIGHT WINNING SEASONS After recording a 7-5 record in 2014, Texas State enters 2015 looking for its second straight winning season in the NCAA Division I ranks. If the Bobcats win seven or more games in 2015, it would mark just the third time since 1984 that the Bobcats have had two winning seasons. The only other two times came in 1990 and 1991 when Dennis Franchione was serving a head coach for the third time and in 2008 and 2009. WHO’S BACK Texas State returns 44 lettermen from the 2014 season in which Texas State posted its first winning record as a member of the NCAA Division I FBS and second season in the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats have 22 lettermen returning on offense and 22 returning on defense. Texas State returns eight starters on offense and six starters on defense. FLORIDA TRIO Texas State has three players from Florida on its current roster. They include junior linebacker Teron Fitzgerald of Greensboro, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Kian Schoenborn from Jacksonville, sophomore tight end Gabe Schrade from Deland.

Texas State at Florida State Game Notes NATION’S FOURTH MOST IMPROVED OFFENSE Playing its first season in an up-tempo offense, Texas State finished 2014 ranked among the nation’s top four most improved offenses with 464.4 total yards. The Bobcats finished among Sun Belt Conference leaders and ranked 24th nationally in total offense. Below is a chart of the nation’s most improved teams. MOST IMPROVED TOTAL OFFENSES Team 2013 2014 Diff. 1. TCU 344.8 533.0 188.2 2. Miami (OH) 225.8 375.3 149.5 3. Massachusetts 281.6 421.1 139.5 4. Texas State 326.3 464.4 138.1 TEXAS STATE RUSHING ATTACK Texas State also ranked 18th nationally in rushing offense with an average of 238.5 yards per game and 31st in scoring offense with 33.8 points per game. The Bobcats had two of the top 10 rushers in the Sun Belt Conference, including Robert Lowe, who ranked fifth with an average of 99.2 yards per game. BOBCATS IN THE AIR Texas State also had the most efficient passing attack in the Sun Belt and ranked 35th nationally with an efficiency rating of 140.40. Tyler Jones ranked third among conference leaders in passing effi-ciency and touchdown passes with a rating of 141.1 and 22 TD passes. Jones set a new Texas State school record when he completed 65.4 percent (246-376) of his passes for 2,670 yards and 22 touchdowns. 2,600 YARD PASSER AND 1,000-YARD RUSHER Texas State is one of just eight NCAA Division I FBS schools to return a 2,600-yard passer and a 1,000-yard rusher in their starting offensive backfield this season. Tyler Jones completed 246 of 376 passes for 2,670 yards and 22 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. Jones was responsible for 28 touchdowns after he also rushed for 539 yards and six TDs on 166 carries last season. His 539 yards ranked third on the team. Senior Robert Lowe ran for 1,091 yards and 12 touchdowns on 185 carries last year to become Texas State’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2009. Lowe also caught 24 passes for 207 yards and another TD last year. THIRD LONGEST IN THE COUNTRY Texas State’s Tyler Jones enters the 2015 season having thrown a touchdown pass in 16 consecutive games and that is the third-highest total in the nation.

TWO 225-YARD RUSHERS Texas State was the only team in the nation that had two different players who rushed for over 225 yards in a single game last year. Robert Lowe rushed for 236 yards against Arkansas State on Nov. 20 and Terrence Franks ran for 284 yards against Idaho. THOMPSON RETURNS TO LEAD DEFENSE John Thompson returns as Texas State’s defensive coordinator after introducing a new defense to the Bobcats in 2014. Thompson joined Texas State’s coaching staff after serving two years at Arkansas State and the Bobcats tied for fourth in sacks with 2.33 per game and was second in turnover margin after forcing 19 turnovers and having just 12 turnovers as a team. PRESEASON SBC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR Senior cornerback David Mims was named the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. If he earns the postseason award this year, it would mark the second straight season that a Bobcat was named the SBC Defensive Player of the Year after David Mayo earned the honor in 2014. Mims had five interceptions last year and broke up three other passes. He is among the top two returning leaders with 48 tackles last year. Senior linebacker Trey McGowan is the top returning tackler with 80 tackles. NFL DRAFT NOTES Texas State had multiple players selected in the first five rounds of a NFL Draft for the first time in school history in 2015 when Craig Mager was taken in the third round and David Mayo was chosen in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft after he recorded 154 tackles to rank second nationally. This was the first time that two Bobcats were chosen in the same draft since 2000 when three players were selected in the sixth and seventh rounds. Texas State has five active players on NFL rosters and four of the five have earned their bachelor’s degrees at Texas State. Texas State at Florida State Game Notes QUOTABLE Texas State head coach Dennis Franchione On challenge of facing Florida State “It’s a big challenge. They’ve got five bonafide NFL prospects, and 16 possibles. We’re playing a very very good football team that’s won 29 of their last 30 games, three conference championships in the ACC, played in the national championships game and won it two years ago, was in the final four last year. We’re not playing just a great team, we’re playing a great program.” On state of the team heading into opener “There’s not any area we haven’t gotten better at. We haven’t scrimmaged much this fall, which we don’t. We probably scrimmaged about 350-375 plays in the spring. Hopefully we’ll tackle well. I think we’re getting in good position to tackle well. We’ve got a good understanding of what we’re trying to do. On trying to eliminate mistakes “As you’ve heard me say, sometimes you meet the enemy in the first game and the enemy is you. We don’t want to be the enemy in this game. We want the enemy to be Florida State. We don’t want to beat ourselves. We’re going to play smart.” On replacing two NFL draft picks “I think Tim Gay and David Mims, Rusmin Nikocevic have certainly stepped up along with Damani Alexcee. Those guys are probably the leaders on the defensive side of the ball right now. Trey McGowan certainly fits into that category. I’m hopeful the collective group can offset the loss of Craig [Mager] and David [Mayo].”
