TYA/USA SEEKS INTERNS FOR 2012-2013
WHAT IS TYA /USA? TYA/USA is a national membership organization that strengthens the artistic and cultural importance of theater for young people by providing information, inspiration and support to its members and fostering a global appreciation of the field’s excellence. TYA/USA is the only national theatre organization that provides national and international communication activities that serve the arts and the development of professional theatre for young fields. As a professional membership organization with over 40 years of service to the field, TYA/USA is proud to offer an Internship Program. The TYA/USA internship program provides learning opportunities and on-the-job experience to undergraduate, graduate students, and recent college graduates with a professional interest in theatre for young audiences, arts management, and arts marketing. BENEFITS: Training: The intern will gain valuable experience in non-profit management, development, and arts marketing. The intern, with the executive director will develop a list of learning goals that they would like to accomplish. Interns are trained and supervised by TYA/USA Executive Director and, when possible, have interaction with board members. Career Support: Interns who complete the program gain a valuable professional reference from a national arts organization with recognized leaders in the theatre for young audiences’ field. In addition, staff is available to assess the intern's interview skills and provide feedback on his/her résumé. A mock interview is held at the end of the internship. Hands-On Involvement: Interns are an integral part of the TYA/USA staff. Interns will have the opportunity to create new projects, resources, and other materials for the organization. Interns will take part in a weekly staff meeting with TYA/USA Executive Director and provide input on the organization’s progress. Interns may also help coordinate and create a national arts conference: One Theatre World 2013.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The intern is expected to work at least 15 hours per week for 10-12 weeks. They will participate in daily office activities, contribute skills and ideas, and produce excellent work. In addition to general office support, the intern will create an ongoing project, which must adhere to the following guidelines. The project must: 1. Be a subject of interest to the Intern or applicable to their major/area of interest. 2. Provide a service to TYA/USA members or the organization itself. 3. Once completed, be tangible enough to serve as a portfolio piece to be used in future job-seeking and interviewing. In addition to the selected project, interns will provide general office support to the Executive Director and other TYA/USA staff. Interns will help implement recruitment and marketing campaigns. Select interns will help with website and social media maintenance. Other duties may be assigned to an intern in their specific area of interest.
COMPENSATION Interns are paid an honorarium, either $200 per quarter, $300 per semester OR college credit. Stipends will be dispensed in two installments - 50% midway through the internship and 50% upon completion. If you wish to receive credit for your internship, please indicate as such in your cover letter.
