PUDONG NEW AREA SHANG HAI

Project 1

CONNECT OF THE EAST BUND The project located in the east coast of Huangpu River in Shanghai, from Minhang junction of Xupu Bridge in the south to Wusong port in the north, with the length of 42 km, takes up almost half area of the whole Huangpu river area. The design concept focuses on “connectivity”, i.e. converting the whole east coast of Huangpu River to a waterfront multi-functional land where multiple slow-moving traffic systems are added and meanwhile the background elements of the area are reserved to a certain degree.

1

SITE

Through analyzing the current situation of the east coast of Huangpu River, we can see the incoherency between current greenbelt with public space and disperse traffic around this area. The large interval between stations is not convenient for citizens to go out. The

land has no clear partition, no relations between each partitions and scenic spots within this land are scattered.

Several slow traffic systems are designed based on the area features, that is, walking, running and riding routes and meanwhile add tramcar and water traffic routes for citizens and tourists to travel the whole east coast of Huangpu River. Connecting with the current subway stations and ports, it is more convenient for people going out.

3

Five partitions are re-planned in the renovated east coast of Huangpu River: Ecological leisure: a life area integrating science popularization education, exercise and fitness, music art, and parent-child entertainment. Creativity expo: this area has become a riverside stage for citizens to celebrate cultural exposition based on the arena buildings and park greenbelt built during World Expo, combining with multi-theme festival activities and literature and art performance. Art life: this area focuses on establishing an art gallery Henan Dock Square area to create a humanity atmosphere of cultural diversity through performance art and sculpture art. Colorful scroll: build the shallow beach into an ecological corridor through ecological design in this area, and direct diversified activities to the riverside based on landmark buildings Cultural corridor: with abundant historical and cultural resources, this area will highlight cultural exhibition and experience function and create a Huangpu River cultural highland.

RENDERING

The signs in bright color are convenient for people going out and the area in the corner can be used for tourists and citizens to have a rest.

16

There are table-boards in a corner in the quadrate square for the old citizens’ entertainment. Compared with the previous crowded layout of sundries, the new square can provide a larger activity space for tourists and residents. Different colors on the ground can be used to guide visitors.

Project 3

ARGRIMOMA The project is located in MOMA, Dongcheng District, Beijing. Due to the ever-reducing agricultural acreage in Beijing, the city’s vegetables supply depends on surrounding cities. With the increase of vegetable price, local citizens are under great pressure. Now it is urgent to find a way to change the current situation. The design concept emphasizes on combining urban building with farm, by using the unique geothermal energy resources to create a roof farm in the air over the city so as to provide fresh vegetables to residents and reduce citizen’s life pressure while strengthening ecological atmosphere for urban life.

SITE Nanjing 南京

Project 4

QU SHUI LIU SHANG (曲水流觞) The project located in Xin Jiekou, Nanjing, is a small square between buildings surrounded by commercial buildings, office buildings and restaurants. The current problem in this area is that there are no activity space and rest space suitable for citizens around. This causes a large area of vacant lot left unused. The design concept emphasizes on renovating current vacant lot and extracting the artistic conception of “water winding and wineglass drifting” based on Nanjing the ancient city, so as to design a square with Chinese traditional flavor for different groups of people.
