Welcome to our 70th Annual Parade of Homes™! Tyler’s first Parade began in 1953 and featured 10 homes ranging in price from $10,000 to $25,000. Many things have changed over 70 years, but what hasn’t changed is TABA’s tradition of showcasing beautiful homes, as well as the talent of our members.
The Parade offers nine days to explore homes and products from TABA’s finest builders and subcontractors. Visit the homes in any order, and refer to the map and turn-by-turn directions between pages 18 and 19. Please note, because some of these homes are on new streets, many of the addresses will not work with a gps. Back by popular demand, we have an app to help you navigate the Parade! 70 Years of Parade of HomesTM
In 1953, with 18 builders and 59 associate members, the Home Builders Association of Tyler hosted their firstever Parade of Homes™. The first Parade consisted of 10 homes built by 10 builders and home prices ranged from $10,000 to $25,000. The tour was a great success, and the momentum for the Home Builders Association of Tyler was launched.
The Association and the Parade of Homes™ continued to grow over the years, and in 1983, the Association name changed to the Tyler Area Builders Association with the goal of encompassing surrounding communities. Now, 70 years since the first Parade, the Tyler Area Builders Association has grown to over 600 members and the Parade continues to draw thousands of visitors each year.
Some attendees are interested in building or remodeling a new home, others are moving to the area and want to see new developments, and many attend as a yearly tradition.
For a builder, the construction timeline has to align perfectly in order to enter a home in the Parade. Subcontractors work in a timely manner to ensure the home is completed in time.
“It takes months to get ready for a Parade,” says Libby Simmons, TABA executive vice-president. “The key is everything has to come together at just the right time.”
The Parade of Homes™ continues to highlight homes with a wow factor. The latest products, custom pools, and beautiful staging are just a few features to expect at a Parade.
Over the decades, trends have certainly changed, but one thing that has not changed is the tradition of donating a portion of proceeds to local charities benefiting. Numerous local organizations have benefited over the years from the Parade of Homes™.
