2 President’s Message In the month of August, TABA offers several Erin Wright opportunities to support the housing industry and those who represent us. Please make plans to join us for TABA’s Annual Government Officials Appreciation Luncheon on August 23rd at Willow Brook Country Club. Our guest speaker will be Senator Bryan Hughes. We will also present checks to charitable recipients of the 2017 Parade of Homes ™. Conact TABA staff to RSVP for this event. Also, TABA’s 8th Annual Clay Shoot will take place on August 25 at Prairie Creek Ranch. All proceeds benefit HOMEPAC, the Texas Association of Builders’ political action committee. HOMEPAC funds are used to support pro-housing candidates and builder-friendly legislation. Come out and enjoy a slightly hot, but fun afternoon to support a good cause! Finally, be sure to check the letter from our Education Chairman, Kerry Hamblett and find out what our Education Committee has been working on and how you can get involved. We are very excited about this project!

3 TABA Members, Many of you may be aware that TABA has been working with area schools to help promote career awareness in the building industry. We are currently experiencing a shortage of skilled labor and unless students become aware of career opportunities available to them in the building industry, the labor shortage will continue to be an issue. As an Association, we have the resources to help local students learn about skilled trades and career opportunities in the building industry. The TABA Education Committee has made this a priority and we are actively working with local school districts by participating in job fairs and career classes. This is where you can help. We need representatives from every trade to participate in these school events. If you are a member of TABA, then your skill set is needed in the building industry. Please contact myself or Libby Simmons if you would like to volunteer for these events. Also as part of this initiative, we are working as a contact between local schools and TABA members to facilitate job opportunities for students. If you have a job or internship opportunity available for students only (high school or college), we now have a section on our website to post that information. This webpage will be used as a direct resource for local school counselors who have interested students. Some of these students are participating in career and technology programs through their schools. You can view this page by going to tylerareabuilders.com/job-board or clicking the “Student Job Board” header at the top of the homepage for tylerareabuilders.com. If you are a TABA member and would like to post a career opportunity to the site, please contact TABA staff, who will post the information. 5 Join a Leadership Position at TABA TABA board members are searching the ranks of its members to find those who want to take an active role in the leadership of our Association and the support of the homebuilding industry in our area. We are looking for interested candidates who are willing to become leaders, not just board members. Here are a few of the requirements that are met by board members who are elected to a one-year term: attendance at monthly board meetings; attendance at TABA general functions; investment in HOMEPAC of the Texas Association of Builders; participation on TABA committees and recruiting of new members.
