lu + zhu residence

behavioral setting Self-ventilating and barrier-free, this lake side residence was designed for peace of mind. The angular shape of the home takes advantage of the prevailing winds of the area to completely ventilate and cool the house. Each bedroom can ventilate with its doors closed, and a modern day dog-trot next to the main living space maximizes airflow through the area. Combined, these features drastically reduce the energy consumption of the home.

behavioral setting Built with virtually no restrictive hallways, people regardless of age or stature can easily move through and around the house, creating a universally accessible environment.

st. lawrence river dwelling

micro dwelling The micro dwelling is located underneath the surface of water in rivers with high tidal surges to produce energy for the home. Turbine blades located along the outside of the hull turn the residence into a livable kinetic hydropower generator.

kitchen bedroom lounge

micro dwelling A rotating interior wall of the micro dwelling provides three different living areas out of the single space within the home. The kitchen, the bedroom and an entertaining area all exist in within the orbiting wall of the dwelling. This feature allows the central living space to be maximized while still offering all the amenities of a standard apartment in a fraction of the size.

modular furniture

industrial design Built from a single piece of 4’ by 8’ plywood and connected by only friction joints, the three cubes are designed to be building blocks of furniture. Individually, each cube can be used as a stool, but together, they can be friction joined to form more complex pieces of furniture, such as a chair, or shelving using a unique clip system.

three-dimensional logo Uniqueness and usability are fundamental in all of my designs, and thus are represented in my logo. The individual chain links represent form and function, and the symbolism of the chain reinforces the idea that those two elements of design are inherently bound together and present in all of my work.
