Welcome to the Brooke Weston Trust Primary Training Hub offer. We are now into our third year of offering high quality professional development for primary teachers, senior leaders and support staff across our local area.
This comprehensive and innovative programme has been put together in response to the development needs of the primary schools across the Brooke Weston Trust. Other schools may well have similar development priorities, so we are inviting all schools in our local area to take advantage of this training and development to support their school improvement priorities.
Jane MacDonald and Carrie Norman who are both experienced Head teachers and Local Leaders of Education (LLEs), have developed this programme. Our training sessions are facilitated by experienced leaders across our Trust and enriched by regional and nationally recognised educationalists including subject association leads, lead Ofsted inspectors plus external consultants who work with the DFE.
The sessions will take place at our Primary Training Hub venue located within Oakley Vale Primary School. This venue is a tailor-made training room which can accommodate up to 24 delegates in comfort.
Schools who are external to the Brooke Weston Trust are most welcome to join any of our sessions. We have kept the cost of our courses to a minimum to enable as many staff as possible to benefit from our programme of professional development. A half day course is only £50 and a full day is £85 (to include a light lunch). We are also offering a subscription package so that staff can access the whole training offer at a more cost-effective rate than booking courses individually (see page 30).
This year we have included some courses run by Northamptonshire Teaching School Hub. These courses are marked with and should be booked through www.northamptonshireteachingschoolhub.org
We hope that you will find the content of our courses relevant to your school improvement priorities and look forward to meeting you at a future training session.

Questioning, dialogue and ‘appropriate discussion’ for learning are in every teacher’s toolkit and they also lie at the heart of the Ofsted evaluation of curriculum delivery. Great dialogue, talk and questioning help children to gather their thoughts, marshall their knowledge and use it well for better depth and thorough practice. This session acts as a useful ‘check-up from the neckup’ for all classroom practitioners who want to get more for their ask, when questioning pupils. The way we ask questions is as important as the questions themselves and this session helps every teacher look closely at what can make the difference. Colleagues will receive easy-to-use tips, nudges and prompts from the author of Active Questioning, a questioning resource which is already used in over 2,000 schools. This session would be suitable for support staff and less experienced teachers.

• Where did the child make the most progress? The least? Which subjects?
• How do we ensure that pupils who are absent are given opportunities to catch up?
• How do we close gaps when a child has been absent?

• What can we do to support a child to reach their potential?
The main aim of this session is to provide teachers with responsibility for year 2 with the opportunity to moderate childrens’ work alongside each other. Teachers will develop an understanding of the moderation process and how to prepare for it. Led by trained moderator.
