The Right Mix
The Right Mix Paul Cheeseman 2010
Concrete is a mixture of ballast, cement and water. It is mainly used as a construction material. There are variations of this mix depending on the function. Concrete is widely regarded as an ugly and boring building material. This book will present photographic proof that concrete architecture can be anything but boring or ugly. The photos are all taken of architecture in the city of Bristol. All the following images were taken using a 1976 Pentax ME film camera.

take another look Concrete is one of the most used construction materials around the globe. Next time there is a building made of concrete you think is unattractive, find its good angle. Remember: ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover.’

They both had exactly the same exposure lengths. During the exposure of the first image a man cycled past with his extremely bright flashing light that burnt itself into the photograph.

‘Concrete is always best’ ‘You say to a brick: ‘What do you want, brick?’ and brick says to you: ‘I like an arch.’ And you say to brick: ‘Look, I want one, too, but arches are expensive and I can use a concrete lintel over you, over an opening.’ And then you say: ‘What do you think of that, brick?’ Brick says: ‘I like an arch.’
