The Right Mix

The Right Mix Paul Cheeseman 2010

Concrete is a mixture of ballast, cement and water. It is mainly used as a construction material. There are variations of this mix depending on the function. Concrete is widely regarded as an ugly and boring building material. This book will present photographic proof that concrete architecture can be anything but boring or ugly. The photos are all taken of architecture in the city of Bristol. All the following images were taken using a 1976 Pentax ME film camera.

‘Concrete is always best’ ‘You say to a brick: ‘What do you want, brick?’ and brick says to you: ‘I like an arch.’ And you say to brick: ‘Look, I want one, too, but arches are expensive and I can use a concrete lintel over you, over an opening.’ And then you say: ‘What do you think of that, brick?’ Brick says: ‘I like an arch.’
