TYPOUNITE Dubai 2017 is an International Typographic Poster Design Exhibition organized by the College of Design at American University in the Emirates (AUE) in cooperation with TYPEUNITE, Switzerland Embassy, United Design Alliance to celebrate typography, education and practice. Typography evens the equation of form over function, crafting words into appealing and communicative design. The Typography Poster Exhibition highlights the different views, cultures, and design approaches used by various countries. The works of 120 designers (15 professors and 103 students / 13 universities) from UAE, South Korea, Denmark, Turkey, USA, Indonesia, Ecuador, Poland and China explore typographic visual form, contemporary aesthetics of poster design and inspire new typographic approaches. Typographic design is an inescapable part of our visual culture and one of the most important elements in graphic design, it is the craft of endowing human language with a durable visual form, according to Robert Bringhurst. The character, as per Professor Li Xu, is a silent language which soundlessly expresses its ideas. The characters are lively graphics which narrate their story in every corner of our life. The character constitutes a form of visible communication which builds a bridge among people. Travelling through time and space, the character plays a vital role as far as dissemination of information and exchange of ideas are concerned. This exhibition is an exciting and rich representation of human creativity and visual expression of our emotions, and physical responses. Dr. Arafat Al-Naim Dean of CDES
