Role of BRCA 1 & BRCA 2 genes in breast cancer BRCA, Breast cancer gene is a part of human body that suppresses the chances of causing breast cancer. But the mutations of BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 leads to instability and thereby causing breast and ovarian cancer.

Causing Factor BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes produce Tumor Suppressor Gene (TSG) proteins so that two genes are called as TSGs. BRCA1 gene is located on chr17q, and any changes or mutations in this gene can lead to an increased risk of developing breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer.

High Risk Category By age 70, women BRCA1 carriers have a slightly higher risk of developing breast cancer than BRCA2 carriers. Also, BRCA1 mutations are more often linked to triple negative breast cancer, which is more aggressive and harder to treat than other types of breast cancer.

Treating the cause A positive test result means that you have a mutation in one of the breast cancer genes, BRCA1 or BRCA2, and therefore a much higher risk of developing breast cancer or ovarian cancer compared with someone who doesn't have the mutation. But a positive result doesn't mean you're certain to develop cancer
