SAFETYRULES

Generalities

• Carefullyfollowspecifiedrepairand maintenanceprocedures.

• Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewels, unbuttonedorflappingclothingsuchasties,torn clothes,scarves,openjacketsorshirtswithopen zipswhichcouldgetcaughtonmovingparts.Use approvedsafetyclothingsuchasanti--slipping footwear,gloves,safetygoggles,helmets,etc.

• Wearsafetyglasseswithsideguardswhen cleaningpartsusingcompressedair.

• Damagedorfrayedwiresandchainsare unreliable.Donotusethemforliftingortowing.

• Wearsuitableprotectionsuchasapprovedeye protection,helmets,specialclothing,glovesand footwearwheneverwelding.Allpersons standinginthevicinityoftheweldingprocess shouldwearapprovedeyeprotection. NEVER LOOKATTHEWELDINGARCIFYOUREYES ARENOTSUITABLYPROTECTED.

• Nevercarryoutanyrepaironthemachineif someoneissittingontheoperatorísseat,except iftheyarequalifiedoperatorsassistinginthe operationtobecarriedout.

• Neveroperatethemachineoruseattachments fromaplaceotherthansittingattheoperatorís seatoratthesideofthemachinewhenoperating thefenderswitches.

• Nevercarryoutanyoperationonthemachine whentheengineisrunning,exceptwhen specificallyindicated.Stoptheengineand ensurethatallpressureisrelievedfromhydraulic circuitsbeforeremovingcaps,covers,valves, etc.

• Allrepairandmaintenanceoperationsshouldbe carriedoutwiththegreatestcareandattention.

• Disconnectthebatteriesandlabelallcontrolsto warnthatthetractorisbeingserviced.Blockthe machineandallequipmentwhichshouldbe raised.

• Nevercheckorfillfueltanksorbatteries,noruse startingliquidifyouaresmokingornearopen flamesassuchfluidsareflammable.

• Thefuelfillinggunshouldalwaysremainin contactwiththefillerneck.Maintainthiscontact untilthefuelstopsflowingintothetanktoavoid possiblesparksduetostaticelectricitybuild--up.

• Totransferafailedtractor,useatraileroralow loadingplatformtrolleyifavailable.

• Toloadandunloadthemachinefromthe transportationmeans,selectaflatareaproviding afirmsupporttothetrailerortruckwheels.Firmly tiethemachinetothetruckortrailerplatformand blockwheelsasrequiredbythetransporter.

• Alwaysuseliftingequipmentofappropriate capacitytoliftormoveheavycomponents.

• Chainsshouldalwaysbesafelyfastened. Ensurethatfasteningdeviceisstrongenoughto holdtheloadforeseen.Nopersonsshouldstand nearthefasteningpoint.

• TheworkingareashouldbealwayskeptCLEAN andDRY.Immediatelycleananyspillageof wateroroil.

• Neverusegasoline,dieseloilorotherflammable liquidsascleaningagents.Usenon--flammable non--toxicproprietarysolvents.

• Donotpileupgreaseoroilsoakedrags,asthey constituteagreatfirehazard.Alwaysplacethem intoametalcontainer.

STARTUP

• Neverruntheengineinconfinedspaceswhich arenotequippedwithadequateventilationfor exhaustgasextraction.

• Neverbringyourhead,body,arms,legs,feet, hands,fingersnearfansorrotatingbelts.

ENGINE

• Alwaysloosentheradiatorcapveryslowly beforeremovingittoallowpressureinthe systemtodissipate.Coolantshouldbetoppedup onlywhentheengineisstopped.

• Donotfillupfueltankwhentheengineisrunning.

• Neveradjustthefuelinjectionpumpwhenthe tractorismoving.

• Neverlubricatethetractorwhentheengineis running.

ELECTRICALSYSTEMS

• Ifitisnecessarytouseauxiliarybatteries,cables mustbeconnectedatbothsidesasfollows:(+) to(+)and(--)to(--).Avoidshort--circuitingthe terminals.GASRELEASEDFROMBATTERIES ISHIGHLYFLAMMABLE.Duringcharging, leavethebatterycompartmentuncoveredto improveventilation.Avoidsparksorflamesnear thebatteryarea.Donosmoke.

• Donotchargebatteriesinconfinedspaces.

• Alwaysdisconnectthebatteriesbefore performinganytypeofserviceontheelectrical system.

HYDRAULICSYSTEMS

• Somefluidcomingoutfromaverysmallportcan bealmostinvisibleandbestrongenoughto penetratetheskin.Forthisreason,NEVERUSE

YOURHANDSTOCHECKFORLEAKS,butuse apieceofcardboardorapieceofwoodforthis purpose.Ifanyfluidisinjectedintotheskin,seek medicalaidimmediately.Lackofimmediate medicalattentionmayresultinseriousinfections ordermatitis.

• Alwaystakesystempressurereadingsusingthe appropriategauges.

WHEELSANDTYRES

• Checkthatthetyresarecorrectlyinflatedatthe pressurespecifiedbythemanufacturer. Periodicallycheckforpossibledamagetothe rimsandtyres.

• Stayatthetyresidewheninflating.

• Checkthepressureonlywhenthetractoris unloadedandtyresarecoldtoavoidwrong readingsduetoover--pressure.

• Nevercut,norweldarimwiththeinflatedtyre assembled.

• Toremovethewheels,blockbothfrontandrear tractorwheels.Raisethetractorandinstallsafe andstablesupportsunderthetractorin accordancewithregulationsinforce.

• Deflatethetyrebeforeremovinganyobject caughtintothetyretread.

• Neverinflatetyresusingflammablegasesas theymayoriginateexplosionsandcauseinjuries tobystanders.

REMOVALANDINSTALLATION

• Liftandhandleallheavycomponentsusinglifting equipmentofadequatecapacity.Ensurethat partsaresupportedbyappropriateslingsand hooks.Useliftingeyesprovidedtothispurpose. Takecareofthepersonsneartheloadstobe lifted.

DESCRIPTIONOFOPERATION COOLING

Theforcedcirculation,closed--circuitenginecoolingsystemiscomposedofthefollowingcomponents:

--Expansiontank:itslocation,shapeandsizemaychangedependingontheengineversion.

--Radiator,whosejobistodissipatetheheattakenbythecoolantfromtheengine.Thiscomponent,too,is afeatureoftheversionasregardsbothpositioningandengine.

--Viscostaticfan,withthetaskofincreasingtheradiatorísdissipatingcapacity:this,too,belongstothespecific engineversion.

--Alubricatingoilcooler:this,too,belongstothespecificengineversion.

--Acentrifugalcoolantpumphousedatthefrontofthecrankcase.

--Athermostatgoverningcoolantcirculation.

--Thecircuitmayalsoextendtothecompressoriftheversionincludesit.

LUBRICATION

Forced--circulationlubricationisaccomplishedbytheoilpump,housedatthefrontofthecrankcase. Thelubricatingoilissentfromtheoilsumptothecrankshaft,camshaftandvalvecontrol. Lubricationalsoincludesthecooler,turbo--blowerandcompressorforthec ompressedairsystemifthereisone. Allthesecomponentsoftenchangeaccordingtouseandwillthereforebecoveredunderthespecificheading.

ENGINEOVERHAUL

INTRODUCTION Removal

DISASSEMBLY

Someoftheoperationsdescribedinthissectioncan becarriedoutdirectlywiththeenginefittedonthe vehicle,dependingonaccesstotheenginebayand ontheversion.

CAUTION

Theoperationsforremovingtheengine,asthosefor overhaul,mustbeperformedbyskilledpersonnelusingspecifictools.

FuelSystem/PreparingEnginetoMounton RotatingStand

Tobeabletofitthebrackets 380001298 (forfixingthe enginetotheoverhaulstand, 380000301)tothe crankcase,itisnecessarytoworkfromtheleft--hand sideoftheengine:

1.Removethefuelfilters(6)fromthemounting (1);

2.Disconnecttheelectricalconnection(2)from themounting(1)andtheonetotheheater (againlocatedonthefiltermounting);

3.Disconnectthefuelpipes(3--4--5)fromthe mounting(1);

4.Removethebracketsupportingthemounting (1)fromthecrankcase.

CAUTION

Todisconnectthefuelpipes(3ñ4ñ5,Figure11) fromtherelevantfittings,youneedtopresstheclip (1)asshowninFigure12,B.

Afterdisconnectingthepiping,puttheclip(1)backin itslockingposition(Figure12,A)topreventitgetting buckled.

5.Disconnectthehigh--pressurefuelpipe(7,Figure1)fromtherailchoketubeandfromthe high--pressurepump(8)andremoveitfromthe crankcasebytakingoutthebracket.

6.Disconnectthepipe9fromthehigh--pressure pump(8).

CAUTION

Dependingonthehighpressureinthepipingfrom thehigh--pressurepumptotherailandfromhereto theelectro--injectors, never:

--disconnectthepipeswiththeenginerunning, --reusedisconnectedpipes.

7.Removetheoilfillerpipe(3).

8.Unscrewthefixingscrews(1)andremovethe startermotor(2)fromitsseat.

9.Workingfromtheright--handsideoftheengine, disconnectthelubricatingpipe(1)fromthetop ofthecoolertotheturbo--blower(2).

10.Removethethermostatbody(3)togetherwith theseal.

11.Fitbrackets 380001298 intotheholes(1)and (2)inthecrankcaseonbothsidesand,using thesebrackets,securetheenginetotherotatingstand 380000301.Drainofftheengineoilby removingtheplugfromthesump.

13.Takeofftheclampsfasteningittothecrankcase andremoveitcompletely.

14.Disconnectthefuelpipes(5)fromtherail(2) andfromthemanifolds(6)fortheelectro--injectors.

CAUTION

Whenlockingthefittings(4)securingthepipes(6)to therail(2),usinganappropriatewrench,youmust preventtheflowlimiters,iffitted,(3)fromturning.

15.Removethescrews(1)anddetachtherail(2).

CylinderHead

16.Disconnectthepipingfromthefuelreturnpressurelimiter(1).

17.Undothenuts(2)andtakeoffthetappetcover (3).

18.Removethenuts(7)anddisconnecttheelectric cablesfromtheelectro--injectors(8).

19.Takeoutthescrews(1)andremovetheelectro--injectorwiringmounting(2)togetherwithits seal.

20.Takeoutthescrews(5),removetheairtemperature/pressuresensor(6).

21.Removethenuts(3)andextractthefuelmanifolds(4).

CAUTION

Onceremoved,thefuelmanifolds(4)mustnotbereused;theymustbereplacedwithnewones.

22.Loosenthetappetadjusterfixingnuts(1)and unscrewtheadjusters.

23.Takeoutthescrews(2),removetherocker--arm assembly(3)comprisingthemounting(6), rockerarms(4)andspindles(5)thenremove thebridges(7)fromthevalves.

24.Removetherods(8).

25.Takeoutthescrewssecuringtheelectro--injectorsand,usingtool 380001099 (1),extractthe electro--injectors(2)fromthecylinderhead.

26.Workingonthetightener(1),extractthebelt (12)fromthepulleysofthealternator,coolant pumpandsnubpulleys.

27.Unscrewthebolt(2)andremovethetightener;

28.Removethesnubpulley(6),unscrewthebolts (7)andremovethepulley(8)fromthemounting beneath.

29.Unscrewthebolts(10)andremovethetightenermounting.

30.Unscrewthebolts(11)andremovethemounting(9)fromthecrankcase.

31.Unscrewthebolts(3)andremovethecoolant pump(4).

Proceedtoremovetheturbocharger:

37.Fromtheoppositeside,unscrewtheboltssecuringtheintakemanifold(1)andremoveittogetherwiththeairheater(2)forcoldstarts.

38.Hookupthebrackets, 380001073 (1)witha suitableslingand,usingahoist,removethecylinderhead(2)fromthecrankcase.

48.Loosenthescrewsfixingtheflywheeltothe crankshaft.

51.Extractthefrontcovershaftseal.

52.Applytool 380000665 (4)onthefronttang(2) ofthecrankshaft.

53.Perforatetheinnerseal(1)withadrillbit (∅ 3.5mm(0.1378in.))throughthetoolísguide holes,foradepthof5mm(0.1969in.).

54.Securethetooltothesealbyscrewingdownthe 6screwssupplied.Extracttheseal(1)by screwingdownthescrew(3).

56.Takeoutthescrews(1)andremovetheoil pump(2).

CAUTION
