GENERAL
TECHNICALINFORMATION
HARDWARE
TheTC35A,TC35DA,TC40A,TC40DA,TC45Aand TC45DAtractorshavebeenbuiltusingmetric hardware.
NOTE: Besuretousethehardwarespecifiedwhen usingtappedholes,astryingtoinstallametricboltin aninchthread,oraninchboltinametricthread,will damagethethread.
Certainhardwaremustbetightenedtospecific torquespecifications.Ifspecifictorquespecifications arenotnoted,tightenthehardwaretothestandard torquechartspecificationlistedinthismanual.
PLATING
HardwareusedonNewHollandbalersisplatedwith zincchromate(goldcolor).Goldcoloredhardware hasdifferenttorquingrequirementsfromunplatedor zincplated(silvercolor)hardwarebecauseofthe differenceinthecoefficientoffrictionoftheplating material.Thetorquechartsinthismanuallistthe correctspecificationsforgold,silver,andunplated bolts.
NUTTIGHTENING
Wheneverpossible,thenutshouldbetightened,not theheadofthebolt.Whentighteningusingthebolt head,theclamploadcanbelostbecausesomeof thetorqueappliedtwiststheboltinsteadof tensioning(stretching)it.Thetensionontheboltis whatholdsthejointtogether.
Approximately90%ofthetorqueappliedduring assemblygoestoovercomingfrictionbetweenthe parts.Theother10%isusedtotension(stretch)the bolt.Afterassembly,thefrictionalforcesdisappear, whichisthebasisforthesayingìIfitdoesnotfail duringassembly,itwillnotfailinservice.îThebolt maylaterfailduetootherfactors,butnotfrombeing overtightened.
LOCKNUTS
Mostlocknutsarecoatedwithaspeciallubricantthat isdrytothetouch.Anytimealocknutisused,alower thannormaltorqueisrequired.Refertothetorque chartsinthismanualforspecificvalues.
JAMNUTS
Whenusingajamnuttolockaregularnut,thejam nutshouldbeinstalledfirstandtightenedtoonehalf therecommendedtorque,thenheldinplacewhile installingaregularnuttotherecommendedtorque.
THREADLUBRICATION
Theadditionofantiseizecompound,Molykote,oil, graphite,oranyotherlubricanttoaboltdecreases thefrictionbetweenitandanut.Thismakesit necessarytoreducetherecommendedtorqueto preventovertensioningofthebolt.Whenusingthe torquechartsinthismanual,decreasethevalueby 20%wheneveralubricantisused.

SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
Acarefuloperatoristhebestoperator.Most accidentscanbeavoidedbyobservingcertain precautions.Tohelppreventaccidents,readand takethefollowingprecautionsbeforeoperatingthis tractor.Equipmentshouldbeoperatedonlybythose whoareresponsibleandinstructedtodoso.
THETRACTOR
1.ReadtheOperatorísManualcarefullybefore usingthetractor.Lackofoperatingknowledge canleadtoaccidents.
2.Useanapprovedrollbarandseatbeltforsafe operation.Overturningatractorwithoutarollbar canresultindeathorinjury.Ifyourtractorisnot equippedwitharollbarandseatbelt,seeyour NewHollandDealer.
3.Alwaysusetheseatbelt.Theonlyinstancewhen theseatbeltshouldnotbeusedisiftherollbar hasbeenremovedfromthetractororfolding ROPSisindownposition.
4.Ifafrontendloaderistobeinstalled,alwaysuse aFOPS(FallingObjectProtectiveStructure) canopytoavoidinjuryfromfallingobjects.
5.Usethehandholdsandstepplateswhengetting onandoffthetractortopreventfalls.Keepsteps andplatformclearedofmudanddebris.
6.Donotpermitanyonebuttheoperatortorideon thetractor.Thereisnosafeplaceforextrariders.
7.Keepallsafetydecalscleanofdirtandgrime, andreplaceallmissing,illegible,ordamaged safetydecals.SeethelistofdecalsintheDecal sectionofthismanual.
SERVICINGTHETRACTOR
1.Thecooling system operatesunderpressure whichiscontrolledbytheradiatorcap.Itis dangeroustoremovethecapwhilethesystemis hot.Alwaysturnthecapslowlytothefirststop andallowpressuretoescapebeforeremoving thecapentirely.
2.Keepanytypeofopenflameawayfromthe tractoranddonotsmokewhilerefueling.Waitfor theenginetocoolbeforerefueling.
3.Keepthetractorandequipment,particularly brakesandsteering,maintainedinareliableand
satisfactoryconditiontoensureyoursafetyand complywithlegalrequirements.
4.Keepopenflameorcoldweatherstartingaids awayfromthebatterytopreventfiresor explosions.Usejumpercablesaccordingto instructionstopreventsparkswhichcouldcause explosion.
5.Stoptheenginebeforeperforminganyservice onthetractor.
6.Escapinghydraulic/dieselfluidunderpressure canpenetratetheskincausingseriousinjury.If fluidisinjectedintotheskin,obtainmedical attentionimmediatelyorgangrenemayresult.
• DONOTuseyourhandtocheckforleaks. Useapieceofcardboardorpapertosearch forleaks.
• Stoptheengineandrelievepressurebefore connectingordisconnectinglines.
• Tightenallconnectionsbeforestartingthe engineorpressurizinglines.
7.Donotmodifyorpermitanyoneelsetomodifyor alterthistractororanyofitscomponentsor functionswithoutfirstconsultingaNewHolland Dealer.
8.Thefueloilintheinjectionsystem isunderhigh pressureandcanpenetratetheskin.Unqualified personsshouldnotremoveorattempttoadjust apump,injector,nozzle,oranyotherpartofthe fuelinjectionsystem.Failuretofollowthese instructionscanresultinseriousinjury.
9.Continuouslong-termcontactwithusedengine oilmaycauseskincancer.Avoidprolonged contactwithusedengineoil.Washskinpromptly withsoapandwater.
10.Somecomponentsofyourtractor,suchas gasketsandfrictionsurfaces(brakelinings, clutchlinings,etc.)maycontainasbestos. Breathingasbestosdustisdangeroustoyour health.Youareadvisedtohaveanymaintenanceorrepaironsuchcomponentscarriedout byanauthorizedNewHollandDealer.However, ifserviceoperationsaretobeundertakenon partsthatcontainasbestos,theessential precautionslistedbelowmustbeobserved:

• Workoutofdoorsorinawellventilatedarea.
• Dustfoundonthetractororproducedduring workonthetractorshouldberemovedby extraction,notbyblowing.
• Dustwasteshouldbedampened,placedin asealedcontainer,andmarkedtoensure safedisposal.
• Ifanycutting,drilling,etc.isattemptedon materialscontainingasbestos,theitem shouldbedampenedandonlyhandtoolsor lowspeedpowertoolsused.
OPERATINGTHETRACTOR
1.Beforestartingthetractor,applytheparking brake,placethePTOleverintheìOFFîposition, theliftcontrolleverinthedownposition,the remotecontrolvalveleversintheneutral position,andthetransmissioninneutral.
2.Alwayssitinthetractorseatwhenstartingthe engineoroperatingcontrols.Donotstartthe engineoroperatecontrolswhilestandingbeside thetractor.
3.Donotbypasstheneutralstartswitches.Consult yourNewHollandDealerifyourneutralstart controlsmalfunction.Usejumpercablesonlyin therecommendedmanner.Improperusecan resultintractorrunaway.
4.Avoidaccidentalcontactwiththegearshiftlever whiletheengineisrunning,asthiscancause unexpectedtractormovement.
5.Beforegettingoffthetractor,disengagethePTO, turntheengineoff,andapplytheparkingbrake. Nevergetoffthetractorwhileitisinmotion.
6.Donotparkthetractoronasteepincline.
7.Donotoperatethetractorengineinanenclosed buildingwithoutadequateventilation.Exhaust fumescancausedeathorillness.
8.Ifthepowersteeringorengineceasesoperating, stopthetractorimmediately.
9.Pullonlyfromthedrawbarorthelowerlink drawbarinthedownposition.Useonlyadrawbar pinthatlocksinplace.Pullingfromthetractor rearaxleoranypointabovetheaxlemaycause thetractortoupset.
10.1Ifthefrontendofthetractortendstorisewhen heavyimplementsareattachedtothethreepointhitch,installfrontendorfrontwheel weights.Donotoperatethetractorwithalight frontend.
11.Alwayssetthehydraulicselectorleverinposition controlwhenattachingortransportingequipment.Ensurehydrauliccouplersareproperly mountedandwilldisconnectsafelyincaseof accidentaldetachmentofimplement.
12.Donotleaveequipmentintheraisedposition.
13.Usetheflasher/turnsignallightsandSMVsigns whentravelingonpublicroadsbothdayand night(unlessprohibitedbylaw).
14.Whenoperatingatnight,adjustlightstoprevent blindingoncomingdrivers.
DRIVINGTHETRACTOR
1.Watchwhereyouaregoing,especiallyatrow ends,onroads,aroundtreesandlowhanging obstacles.
2.Toavoidupsets,drivethetractorwithcareandat asafespeed.Useextracautionwhenoperating overroughground,whencrossingditchesor slopes,andwhenturningcorners.
3.Toprovidetwo-wheelbraking,locktractorbrake pedalstogetherwhentransportingonroads.
4.Donotcoastorfreewheeldownhills.Usethe samegearwhengoingdownhillasisusedwhen goinguphill.
5.Anytowedvehiclewithatotalweightexceeding thatofthetowingtractorshouldbeequippedwith brakesforsafeoperation.
6.Ifthetractorbecomesstuckorthetiresbecome frozentotheground,backupthetractorto preventupset.
7.Alwayscheckoverheadclearance,especially whentransportingthetractor.
8.Whenoperatingatnight,adjustlightstoprevent blindingoncomingdrivers.
OPERATINGTHEPTO
1.WhenoperatingPTOdrivenequipment,shutoff theengineandwaituntilthePTOstopsbefore gettingoffthetractoranddisconnectingthe equipment.
2.Donotwearlooseclothingwhenoperatingthe powertake-offorwhennearrotatingequipment.
3.WhenoperatingstationaryPTOdrivenequipment,alwaysplaceallgearshiftleversinneutral position.
Applythetractorparkingbrake,andblockthe rearwheelsfrontandback.

DIESELFUEL
1.UNDERNOCIRCUMSTANCESshouldgasoline,alcohol,orblendedfuelsbeaddedtodiesel fuel.Thesecombinationscancreatean increasedfireorexplosivehazard.Suchblends aremoreexplosivethanpuregasolineina closedcontainersuchasafueltank.DONOT USETHESEBLENDS.
2.Neverremovethefuelcaporrefuelwiththe enginerunningorhot.
3.Donotsmokewhilerefuelingorwhenstanding nearfuel.
4.Maintaincontrolofthefuelfillerpipenozzlewhen fillingthetank.
5.Donotfillthefueltanktocapacity.Allowroomfor expansion.
6.Wipeupspilledfuelimmediately.
7.Alwaystightenthefueltankcapsecurely.
8.Iftheoriginalfueltankcapislost,replaceitwith aNewHollandapprovedcap.Anon-approved, proprietarycapmaynotbesafe.

4.Removetheseat,andtheseatbaseassembly fromthetractor.
5.Removethelightbarsfromthefendersandthe ROPS.
6.Ifequipped,removetheremoteloadercontrol valve,1,andtheconnectinghydraulictubesfrom therightfender.
7.Removetheleftandrightfendersfromthe tractor.
8.Removetheleft,1,andright,2,rearhoodside panels.
9.Disconnectandremovethethrottlecablefrom thefootthrottlecontrolpedal,locatedontheright deck.
10.Removetheleftandtherightdeckfromthetractor.
11.Disconnectthethrottlecablefromthedash mountedthrottlecontrollever.
