KEYNOTE Imagine circling the globe, sailing alone for nine months. Picture yourself worrying about everything from how well you built your boat to navigating violent winds, large waves, strong currents and even icebergs around Cape Horn (the southern tip of South America). A PBS documentary “Into the Wind” profiled Neal and 15 other sailors daring to compete in the famous 199899 Around Alone yacht race–27,000 miles around the world, alone in a yacht he designed and built himself.

Sponsored by Comcast

neal Neal Petersen will speak during UAC’s Opening General Session, Friday in the Garden Room

From this experience and many others, Neal wrote the award winning auto-biography, Journey of a Hope Merchant. The book recounts the epic journey that took a misfit kid from a racially segregated, working class neighborhood to the prestigious world of solo yacht racing. Petersen has faced many other challenges in life–poverty, disability, discrimination, and other insurmountable barriers. Through it all, his challenge to members of UAC (and the theme of this year’s Convention) will be to inspire others to turn barriers into opportunities and then into solutions. Join us for Friday morning’s General Session (November 16) in the Garden Room of the Dixie Center and be prepared to sail away both amazed and inspired.

ENTERTAINMENT Some folks call it a Western Music show; some call it a stand-up comedy show with masterful cowboy music; others call it the best musical experience in the West. Call it what you want -- the fact remains, The Bar J Wranglers from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, deliver some of the purest harmony, best musicianship and funniest ranch humor ever seen on stage. As soon as the Bar J Wranglers take to the stage, listeners leave behind their busy lives and settle into a time long ago -- a time of the singing cowboy.

Sponsored by AT&T

Bar J will provide our Entertainment, Friday in the Garden Room at the Closing Banquet.

The Bar J Wranglers have performed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, 7 nights per week during the summer months, entertaining 800 nightly, at the acclaimed Bar J Chuckwagon. During their off season, the Wranglers perform all over the world, bringing their style of western music, stellar harmony, outrageous comedy and remarkable musicianship to people of all ages and backgrounds. They have entertained for local, regional and national conventions throughout the West and have been hired for hundreds of city concerts, holiday parties and other smaller venues. They have been featured on TNN with Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Randy Travis, as well as live performances on the Discovery Channel and the Travel Network.
