Classes You Don’t Want to Miss: Caitlin Phillips nursing
“The UAH nursing program is challenging – with good reason,” says Caitlin Phillips, an honors student from Birmingham. “We’re taking care of people’s lives.” A member of Sigma Beta Tau, the nursing honor society, Caitlin earned the Clinical Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award as a senior, when she precepted in the neonatal intensive care unit of an area hospital. “I’m passionate about nursing overall,” she says, “but experiences in neonatal are especially rewarding.” Caitlin also shared research on childhood immunizations at a conference in Utah.
Dr. Lori Lioce assistant professor of nursing
“Quality clinical experiences are transforming nursing education. We’re doing everything we can to connect students with real-life experiences and increase face-to-face interaction with patients,” said Lioce. As a family nurse practitioner at the Huntsville Hospital Emergency Department, she appreciates demands working professionals face. “Our students are busy, so we deliver an ‘on demand’ education in various ways – online, on campus, at satellite locations, and in clinical settings.”
