The Prince Center is home to the Central Arkansas volleyball program. Originally constructed in 1936, the building served as the school’s basketball gym until 1972. After undergoing a number of renovations, the Prince Center became the exclusive home to UCA volleyball in the 1990s. With seating on three sides of the court right on top of the action, the Prince Center has quickly gained a reputation as a loud, intimidating volleyball atmosphere. A new student section has been added for the 2010 season to increase both the seating capacity and volume level in the arena. A mural featuring the new athletics logo was painted in the summer of 2010. The Sugar Bears have made the Prince Center a tough place for opponents, going 41-10 at home the past four seasons.

Todd Hay will begin his fifth year as the University of Central Arkansas volleyball assistant coach. In his four seasons, Hay has helped the Sugar Bears go 94-40, including a school record for winning percentage (23-7, .900) in 2009. Hay came to UCA from Trinity Christian High School in Lubbock, Texas where he served as head volleyball coach from 1998 to 2005. During his tenure at Trinity Christian, Hay compiled a record of 254-56 in eight seasons. He was named District Coach of the Year four times and guided Trinity to three 4A state titles, including backto-back championships in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, Hay led Trinity Christian to a 40-4 record and followed up with a 41-7 mark in 2005. TCHS was 31-1 in 1999 and won their first ever state title. Hay guided Trinity to the state semi-finals on two other occasions. Hay has received many awards during his career, including the Lubbock Avalanche Journal City Coach of the Year twice, Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 4A Coach of the Year and KJAK 92.7 Coach of the Year. He has coached 12 All-State players and six District MVP winners during his career. Besides coaching volleyball, Hay was a history teacher at Trinity Christian for 13 years. He served as the junior high volleyball coach from 1994-96, assistant junior high basketball coach from 1993-2005, assistant track coach and assistant golf coach. He was also Trinity Christian’s assistant high school basketball coach when they won the 4A Championship in 1998-99. Hay earned his bachelor’s in education with a minor in physical education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1992. Hay and his wife Gemma have a seven-year old son, Jeffrey.

David McFatrich enters his fourth season on the UCA coaching staff after a successful career as both a coach and a player. In his first three seasons, the Sugar Bears went 75-19 and have set school records in winning percentage each year. In the summer of 2010, McFatrich won a gold medal with the Canadian Masters at the U.S. Open. During the summer of 2009, McFatrich competed with the Canada in the U.S. Open and followed that up by coaching a women’s team in Costa Rica. He started Fatchmo Volley serving the central Arkansas region, in the winter of 2007. His club had more than 175 players during its second season. He is the former captain and setter for the Athletes In Action international volleyball team. McFatrich had several international playing opportunities, including contract offers from Mullhouse in the French Pro League and from VC Oostakker in the Belgium Pro League. McFatrich graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1986 and earned his master’s degree in exercise science in 1988. McFatrich and his wife, Sonya, live in Little Rock with their son Luke, age 12, and daughters Ellie Marie, age 9, and Sammi, age 5.

Steve Hornor joined the UCA staff in the summer of 2005, after previously serving as the head athletic trainer and Director of Sports Medicine at Arkansas Tech University for nine years. While overseeing the dayto-day operations of the athletic training facility in the Farris Center, Hornor also serves as the athletic trainer for the women’s volleyball and men’s basketball teams at UCA. He also serves as an instructor in the athletic training education program, primarily covering the areas of organization and administration and lower extremity injuries and evaluation techniques. The day after graduating from the University of Oregon, Hornor became the head athletic trainer for the Washington Diplomats of the North American Soccer League. Four years later he returned to the west coast, and became the head athletic trainer at Yuba (Calif.) Community College. He remained there for 15 years. During this time, Hornor worked part-time at a physical therapy clinic, and spent his free time volunteering at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and the National Sports Festivals. Hornor has also served as part of the medical staff for the Pan-Am Games. Hornor’s love of sports can only be exceeded by his strong desire and dedication to teaching in the classroom and working with the future members of the athletic training profession. His resounding commitment was honored in 2007 at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Symposium in Atlanta, as Hornor was named the NCAA Division II College/University Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year. In addition to being a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association, and the Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association, he has also been serving as the chair of the Public Relations Committee for the Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association since 1999.
