UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS

PURPLE CIRCLE CLUB

The Purple Circle fund has been crucial to our athletics program for many years. These funds are necessary to demonstrate the commitment to our student-athletes and coaches. This commitment is our intention to be the best athletics program at one of the finest institutions in our region. This can only happen with the assistance of, and is directly linked to the success of, the Purple Circle Club. Our programs accomplished so much during our transitional years, and we continue to build upon that as we distance ourselves from the transition and evolve and grow as a full, active Division I member. The successes which were evident during the transition will only get better, and we see success resonating in all sports both athletically and academically. The Purple Circle has been vital for our coaches and student-athletes. We have seen great improvements in facilities and recruiting. Every athletics facility has either been constructed or renovated in the last few years. Now in our most recent addition, we have the ultimate in luxury suites at Estes Stadium. Our first-class strength & conditioning facility is a huge improvement, and our student-athletes are already hard at work improving themselves in the new, more functional facility. The synthetic surfaces at our baseball, football and softball fields are very functional, with The Stripes at Estes Stadium drawing much attention around the country. It has become a sense of great pride for our campus and football program,

and our team remains undefeated on the surface after two seasons – a streak we hope remains intact for quite some time. The recruiting budgets in all sports have improved BRAD TEAGUE to help our coaches find Director of Athletics the best and brightest bteague@uca.edu for our program. Having @bradteague the resources to find and properly evaluate prospective student-athletes is more important than ever with new, stricter academic policies set forth by the NCAA. We must continue to work diligently to find student-athletes who can thrive at a high level athletically and academically. We need all of our UCA alumni, fans, and friends to join our membership family. If you are renewing your membership thank you, but also please help us find other members to join at any level. If you have never been a member, I invite you to join us at any level in which you feel comfortable. The membership levels begin at $100 and run up to $10,000. Our goal is to increase the number of members and broaden our UCA family. I hope you will help us reach this goal.

WHO AM I SUPPORTING?

ARKANSAS HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STAR GAMES, COACHES CLINIC MOVE TO CENTRAL ARKANSAS

Our Purple Circle Foundation helps support 400 student-athletes who are competing in 17 varsity sports. While competing in their sports, this dedicated group continues to not only exceed the average grade point average at the University, which is one of the best in Arkansas, but our student-athletes’ performance in the classroom make UCA the number one athletic program in academics in Arkansas. This ranking is based upon the Academic Progress Rate (APR), a measure of achievement used to track academic performance and retention as mandated by the NCAA.

The Arkansas Activities Association will be moving its entire schedule of All-Star events to Conway starting in June. UCA was awarded the slate of games due to its outstanding facilities that are conducive to these activities being held on campus.

The latest composite APR shows UCA with a 966 overall and a women’s score of 980. Each year the Southland Conference releases its Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and this spring UCA placed 112 student-athletes on the roll and 18 had a perfect 4.0 GPA. This performance was far and away the best in the conference, with the closest school posting a total of 85. In all, we have 153 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

The move to host the all-star activities was a cooperative effort of officials at UCA, City of Conway, Chamber of Commerce, Conway High School, and the Advertising and Promotion Committee. The AAA made a 5-year commitment to hold the events here.

In addition, the Arkansas High School Coaches Association will conduct its annual coaching clinic on campus. This will be a good recruiting tool not only for our athletic programs, but for the University as a whole. It will also add to the quality of events available on campus. Again, the Purple Circle had a hand in this achievement, as your commitment and investment to UCA athletics has been instrumental in building our program to the point where it is highly attractive to outside organizations such as the AAA.

NOTABLE SUCCESSES IN 2012 The football Bears were Southland Conference champions, and advanced to the NCAA playoffs for the second consecutive season before narrowly losing to Georgia Southern. The Bears finished the regular season ranked No. 8 in the nation, and during the year defeated national runner-up Sam Houston State on the Stripes of First Security Field at Estes Stadium. The Bears earned many postseason honors including multiple all-americans and national offensive lineman and freshman of the year. The Sugar Bears basketball team continued to bloom into a national midmajor power as it won the Southland Conference title during the 2011-2012 season, received numerous individual postseason awards, was highly-ranked in national Mid-Major polls and

climbed to the top 20 percent of the national RPI, while also leading the Southland in attendance. The Sugar Bears volleyball team won the Southland Conference regular season championship and postseason tournament – receiving a bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost to Washington which was the 5th-ranked team in the nation. These women received numerous accolades for their play against top-flight competition. Our baseball and softball programs enjoyed their best seasons in Division I, both making their first appearance in the Southland Conference tournament. The baseball team defeated both the Big 12 and

SEC tournament champions, and the softball team set a program record for wins while finishing 3rd and leading the league in all-conference players. Men’s and women’s soccer and tennis each saw marked improvement in their first season under the direction of new head coaches, our golf teams enjoyed much success and received many accolades, and our track & field and cross country teams continued to break numerous school records. Winners of each sport in the Southland receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament or playoffs. UCA continues to play some of the best-known teams in the nation, with teams in various sports playing Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Arizona State, Mississippi State,Vanderbilt, Southern Mississippi, Tulsa and several others. Colorado, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State appear on the Bears’ football schedule in the coming years.

LUXURY SUITES OPEN TO MUCH FANFARE The game day experience at Estes Stadium received a major boost beginning with the 2012 football season when the 12 luxury suites opened to much acclaim. An open house was held in August for all fans to view the facility and we were very pleased with the reaction. There will be other periodic opportunities for supporters to visit the suites for meetings and other events. The suites, located high above the stadium on the 5th floor of the new Bear Hall, were part of a comprehensive project that includes residence space for students, a spacious lobby used by students and office space for the athletic administrative function. The 12 suites, each with seating for up to 20, overlook the playing field from just above the East side stands and provide a very good view of the action from a great facility. A sports lounge area is included for fans to interact and the area can also be used for various meetings. It also contains a full kitchen for our oncampus catering, restrooms, and storage area. Access to the suite level is provided from an entrance and elevator exclusive to suiteholders. Each of the suites features both indoor and outdoor

seating, flatscreen TVs, refrigerators, ice bins, and other amenities previously unavailable for our fans. Suiteholders made a 10-year commitment for a lease at $25,000 per year. The accommodations in the suites are another indication of the commitment to provide a quality Division I athletics program. The new facility has elevated the game experience for the suiteholders and, in addition, will provide a revenue stream in the future for the support of the program. It has added to the appearance of Estes Stadium which has been noted by student-athletes who are being recruited to play for the Bears. Projects such as this one have been aided greatly by the support of Purple Circle members in helping make this a reality. It is the intention of the Department of Athletics and the University to continue to improve as a Division I athletics program and put the very best product possible on display to represent the university, our alumni and loyal fans. You can join in that endeavor by contributing as little as $100 per year at the Gray Bear entry level, along with other levels that provide enhanced benefits. 4

FACILITY ENHANCEMENTS

As is the case at any athletics department – particularly at the Division I level, outside the major conferences with billion-dollar TV contracts – private funding is absolutely essential for developing and maintaining a strong, well-rounded program. One of the most critical elements, and a vital role played by the Purple Circle fund, is in athletics facilities. As we continue our development as a Division I institution, it is of utmost importance to ensure that our student-athletes are given access to the tools necessary to keep on par or ahead of our opposition. It is our goal to be the Southland Conference’s model program, across all sports and with our academics, and be a highly attractive, well-known destination spot for studentathletes throughout the region. The way we present ourselves is key; and much of that is based upon having nice, functional facilities. Thanks in part to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to make a number of improvements across campus in recent years. In addition to the highly-publicized unveiling of The Stripes in 2011, where we are still undefeated after two seasons, we opened our strength and conditioning complex in 2012. This was one of our biggest needs, as it is a major draw in both attracting student-athletes to campus and maximizing their potential once they arrive. This great showpiece for our university will serve as a tremendous recruiting tool as our coaches look to develop championship student-athletes. The latest addition was the opening of the Bear Hall luxury suites for the 2012 season, giving our supporters a premium gameday experience in private boxes rivaling those of any school in the nation, and greatly enhancing the appearance of our stadium. 5

PURPLE CIRCLE CLUB

Our athletic programs enjoyed another outstanding year in 2012, winning multiple conference championships, receiving countless awards, and leading the Southland in academic accomplishments – all things that reflect very positively on this university. Many hours of hard work by the student-athletes, coaches, administration and support staff go into making it happen – but none of it would be possible without you. It is your support, your investment into the success of our young men and women, that puts us in a position to achieve things this university, our alumni, fans and community can be proud of; and to give our young people as fulfilling a student-athlete experience as possible so that they leave UCA with not only a degree but with great memories – and hopefully even a championship ring or two. As our program has grown into a player on the national scene, the support and enthusiasm has grown with it. We have to continue that growth to take the next step, and we need the entire Bear Nation with us.

The Purple Circle means so much to our program. The support we get from our fan base through the Purple Circle gives us the opportunity to improve our program in a variety of ways, including our arena, offices and locker room – things that are important to recruits and to our operation. It’s the support we get from the Purple Circle and our community that allows our young men to be successful. We have a tremendous fan base, and our guys thrive off of our fans; and the great home court atmosphere we have gives us an advantage in Farris Center. Whether through donations or being in the stands, your support for UCA basketball is greatly appreciated. The Sugar Bear Volleyball program wants to thank all those involved with Purple Circle for your contributions to Central Arkansas Athletics. We have come to realize that our Academic and Athletic success is dependent upon several individuals and groups “buying in” to the idea that we get 4 to 5 years to build into the lives of our student athletes, so the next 40 to 50 years of their lives are fruitful and productive, and our graduates always carry with them a fond remembrance of UCA. Thank you for being a large part of our mission.

On behalf of the team, thanks to all who support our programs through the Purple Circle. Private donations are a great way to enhance our program and our student-athletes Jeff Borengasser experience. One major way it can aid our Tennis program is in facility improvements. This year private funding has helped us with gear and video equipment, which gives us another avenue to help our girls excel on the courts. It is great to be able to provide them with the tools to maximize their potential and enhance their experience here at UCA.

Ross Duncan Men’s Soccer

It is with huge gratitude that I write you to let you know how important your donations have been. Private donations allow us to make progress within our program David Kuhn in ways directly related Softball to the student-athlete experience. Whether we’re purchasing new technology for our study center, buying equipment, or doing an extra recruiting trip or two per year to bring in quality people, your donations directly affect us in a positive way. Thank you for your continued support of UCA athletics!

Donations to the Purple Circle have allowed us to make several improvements to our softball facility over the past couple of years. Because of these upgrades, the UCA Softball Facility is now one of the finest in the Southland Conference and has become a selling point for our program. This would not have been possible without your generous donations, and we deeply appreciate your support of the University and our athletic 6 programs.
