WHO AM I SUPPORTING? Our Purple Circle Foundation helps support 400 student-athletes who are competing in 17 varsity sports. While competing in their sports, this dedicated group continues to not only exceed the average grade point average at the University, which is one of the best in Arkansas, but our student-athletes’ performance in the classroom makes UCA the number one athletic program in academics in Arkansas. This ranking is based upon the Academic Progress Rate (APR), a measure of achievement used to track academic performance and retention as mandated by the NCAA. The latest composite APR shows UCA with a 956 overall with a women’s score of 973 and men’s of 952. Each year the Southland Conference releases its Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and in the last year 185 of our student-athletes were named to the list, with a total of 27 boasting perfect 4.0 GPAs. UCA was 2nd among 13 Southland schools in the fall of 2014 with 96 Honor Roll student-athletes.

HOW AM I MAKING A DIFFERENCE?

Each year, your contribution to the Purple Circle provides critical funding to help offset the rising costs of operating an NCAA Division I athletics program. By investing in the Purple Circle, you have a direct and distinct impact on a studentathlete’s athletic achievement, academic growth and personal development.

Our teams face top-ranked competition that has frequently exposed the University of Central Arkansas name to the nation. We believe our coaches and student-athletes are doing much to provide a great entertainment product and bring exciting growth and changes to the Central Arkansas area.

Private fundraising programs help to fund many aspects of a successful athletics program, and the Purple Circle is vital in helping to cover costs of scholarships, student-athlete recruiting efforts, academic programs, travel, facility enhancements and more.

Every contribution to the Purple Circle is an investment in the lives of the young men and women who represent UCA with talent, determination, and pride. Join us in this march and thanks for your support! If you have questions or would like to visit in person, please contact us.

LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD Private donations are essential as we try to climb our way on to equal footing with many of our competitors around the league and with FCS schools throughout the nation.

Our student-athletes turned in another exceptional year in 2014, bringing home a significant number of individual year-end awards across many of our sports. They are competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics, and are representing our University very well in doing so. Our program has grown so quickly in such a short period of time, and the remarkable success we have enjoyed in our time in Division I athletics is nothing short of incredible. Your support -- be it through donations, attendance at our events, spreading the word of what good things are happening with University of Central Arkansas Athletics throughout your community, or in any other number of ways –- is an essential part of the growth of our athletics program and, in turn, the University as a whole. Our primary mission is to help produce UCA graduates and give our student-athletes a chance for success in life beyond their time in the purple & gray. In that process, we also hope to help them realize their athletic goals. In 2014, many of them were recognized for their excellence in their given sport. A glimpse of some of what your Bears & Sugar Bears did in 2014:

facilities update In maintaining our commitment to the Student-Athlete Experience, Fan/ Donor Experience, and our image; our facilities will consistently and continually be newly constructed or renovated. Over the past eight years, every facility has either had a major construction or renovation. UCA is consistently thought of as having the best all-around facilities in our conference. This past year we improved Estes Stadium, the Farris Center, the tennis facility, the softball field, soccer/track stadium, and the Bear Baseball Stadium. Estes was improved through carpeting in the large locker room as well as the old weight room being converted to additional space for athletic training and coaches offices. The Farris Center pool renovation has begun. It will become

a much-needed basketball practice facility by summer 2015, giving our basketball programs a consistent practice environment and around-the-clock access for individual workouts within the facility, even when conflicting events are scheduled in the arena. Our tennis courts were resurfaced and painted purple. The softball facility has a new multi-camera system for game/practice film analysis and web streaming. The soccer/track stadium has a new press box facility. The baseball stadium enjoys a new left field deck which is 80 feet long and capable of accommodating many fans, bringing another exciting element to the gameday experience.

BEAR NATION CELEBRATION Each August, we take an evening to bring much of the Bear Nation together and reflect upon the accomplishments of our student-athletes over the course of the previous season and look ahead to the good things to come in the year to follow. The event, held inside the Farris Center, allows us the opportunity to bring our student-athletes together with many of the loyal fans who support them both with their cheers in the stands and with their financial assistance to the programs. Annual awards are presented throughout the event in several categories, including our student-athletes of the year, coach of the year, and the presentation of our Purple Circle member of the year. Academic success is highlighted through team GPA awards, introduction of the studentathlete honor society members, and presentation of rings for graduating seniors. And, each year, a special recognition is made in honor of a member of the UCA community who has strongly impacted the University and its athletic programs, with previous honorees including Dr. Jefferson D. Farris, Arch Jones, Dr. Fletcher Lowry & Raymond Bright.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, August 18. Join your fellow UCA fans to celebrate and support the studentathletes and coaches who represent our university and carry on the great tradition of the Bears & Sugar Bears. Seating for the Bear Nation Celebration is limited, so we encourage you to reserve a table for your group or business early to ensure you don’t miss out on the big event. WHY DO I DONATE TO THE PURPLE CIRCLE? Throughout my time at UCA I experienced some of the greatest years of my life. It was made possible by the many contributions of those that came before me to make our University so great. Being able to give back to UCA and the hope that we can help someone have the same great experience is a tremendous honor. I look forward to seeing our University’s continued growth and success in every aspect. MICHAEL NORVELL – deputy head coach/offensive coordinator, arizona state university football & Maria Norvell

I contribute to the Purple Circle because it supports the UCA Athletics program. This is a program that has a positive impact on young student-athletes beyond their time on the court and field. The UCA Athletics program promotes academics and strong leadership. I have been so impressed with the athletics staff at UCA and the direction of Dr. Brad Teague. I know my contribution is used wisely to better the lives of these student-athletes. EDDIE GLOVER, PD – chief executive officer, u.s. compounding

I contribute to the Purple Circle because of the need for each UCA Graduate to give back to the school in some form or fashion. I choose to contribute to the Purple Circle each year and I am a proud life member of this organization. I encourage all former graduates of UCA to do the same. They need our help to expand this great program. I am committed to the Purple Circle for the remaining years of my life. 1984 Graduate! ORVILLE ABRAMS, JR. – cpa/professor – philander smith college

It gives me great pleasure to help our UCA student-athletes by donating to the Purple Circle. I have worked at UCA for 18 years and been an academic advisor to student-athletes. I know first-hand the sacrifices they make in order to get their degree while realizing their dreams of playing sports in college. Many work at jobs in addition to going to class, studying and practicing. Purple Circle donations help support them by making sure they have services needed to be competitive in NCAA Division 1. Most importantly, at the end of their eligibility, these students will be UCA graduates. REBEKAH RASNICK – registrar – university of central arkansas There are many reasons and ways for us to support the University of Central Arkansas. One of those ways is to join the Purple Circle which, to me, does more than just support athletics. It supports the kinds of activities that encourage school spirit, promote fellowship and encourages us to have fun as a group. I feel good about being a member while supporting my alma mater and think many others would enjoy supporting the Purple Circle. WOODY CUMMINS – financial consultant, conway
