Dr. Brad Teague Dear Athletics Friends, There are plenty of exciting sports and projects on-going at UCA.

The 2010 UCA Sports Hall of Fame Class: front row L to R – Ernest Miller, Arvil Burks, Wayne Beadles and Ray Dunbar. back row L to R – Buddy Voegele, Mike Coffman, Otis Chandler, Larry Rogers and Jack Fulmer

On Saturday, Oct. 9 the UCA Sports Hall of Fame welcomed its 10th class with an induction ceremony in the Student Center ballroom. The 2010 class includes Wayne Beadles, Dr. Arvil Burks, Otis Chandler, Mike Coffman, Ray Dunbar, Jack Fulmer, Ernest Miller, Larry Rogers and Buddy Voegele. The nine-member class brings the total of those enshrined to 105. The inductees are selected via vote by the UCA Sports Hall of Fame Committee. This year’s committee is composed of Richard Martin (chair), Jimmy Bryant, Dennis Fulmer, Vaughn Edwards, Dr. Emogene Fox, Henry Hawk, Terri Johnson, Don Nixon, Dr. Wilbur Owen, Bill Stephens, Ken Stephens, Bobby Tiner and Virgil Williamson.

We have recently completed a major renovation to the baseball field. New synthetic turf, stone walls and a family area have been completed to provide our program a needed facelift for better recruiting and a more fanfriendly environment. The Farris Center is much changed for the better. The new video scoreboard will be installed in early November with our first game on November 12 vs. Hendrix. Softball renovations will occur soon with new grandstands. The Prince Center and Volleyball operations continue to improve. The soccer programs and track and field continue to enjoy their new facility. These changes are exciting for everyone involved. Quality facilities make the difference in good programs and great programs. We want to continue to be great and be well known as a quality Division I program. None of this could be possible without the support of all of our alumni, donors, fans, and friends. Thank you and go Bears and Sugar Bears. Brad

Sugar Bears on cusp of national Top 50 in first RPI of 2010; Tied for longest conference win streak in nation

With a third of their regular season still to play, 2010 has already been another season of superlatives for the Sugar Bears volleyball program. After starting out just 6-6 with losses to LSU, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Missouri, Western Kentucky and Wyoming the Sugar Bears have rebounded nicely – winning their last 11 matches. In doing so, the Sugar Bears have now won 29 straight Southland Conference matches –tying them with Hawaii for the longest active in-conference winning streak in the nation. The Sugar Bears also swept a 9-match home stand, extending their winning streak inside the Prince Center to 25 matches. UCA has not lost at home or in league play since Oct. 25, 2008 when the Sugar Bears fell in five sets to UTSA. During the recent home stand the Sugar Bears scored their first-ever win against Memphis, then later followed it up on the road with the program’s first win at UT Arlington. Earlier in the season, the Sugar Bears went to TCU and defeated the Horned Frogs – an NCAA Tournament team a year ago. With 10 matches to play –including three at home (Oct. 23 - Texas State; Nov. 4 - Lamar; Nov. 6 - McNeese State) – the Sugar Bears are 92-25 (.786) overall and 45-10 (.818) in Southland play since the start of the 2007 season. During that span, they are an incredible 43-5 (.896) inside the Prince Center.
