During the 2013-2014 academic year, UC student-athletes completed over 2,000 hours of community service, visiting over 50 separate sites. Some partnerships that were made include Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald’s House, Relay for Life, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Red’s Urban Youth Academy, Dragonfly Foundation, Special Olympics, Girls on the Run as well as local elementary schools and libraries. Within the athletic department we have two annual community engagement initiatives that are organized by UC student-athletes. MIKE BOHN DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

Mike Bohn was named the director of athletics at the University of Cincinnati on Feb. 6, 2014 Bohn’s career spans thirty years and includes record-setting achievements at multiple institutions. “We are beyond excited to join the UC community--with its rich history and remarkable momentum,” Bohn said. I am eager to partner with a highly energized President who understands the collaborative role that athletics can play in advancing the University’s vision and values. Go Bearcats!” “To recruit a leader of Mike’s caliber and national standing only reaffirms the strength, promise and pride of UC Athletics. Mike has successfully moved multiple high profile programs to greater heights, and I am confident that he will help us do the same,” Ono said. “I invite all of you to join me in welcoming Mike and his family to the Bearcat family.” As director of athletics at the University of Colorado from 2005 to 2013, Bohn successfully led their transition to the Pac-12 Conference. CU won four conference championship titles within two years, including the first for men’s basketball in over 43 years. Meanwhile, Bohn enhanced academic support for scholar-athletes, resulting in departmental highs for APR and GPA. He oversaw several multi-million dollar capital projects and facility upgrades, as well as secured the largest corporate sponsorship in school history. In 2008, CU garnered national attention for launching the first zero-waste stadium initiative at the college or professional level. In 2013, CU was named the most economically efficient athletics department in the nation by the Laboratory for the Study of Intercollegiate Athletics at Texas A&M. Prior to the University of Colorado, Bohn served as director of athletics at San Diego State University. Under his watch, SDSU football increased season ticket sales by 27% and game-day attendance by 59%, in addition to

setting a SDSU single-game attendance record of 57,000 against Idaho State. The SDSU baseball team set a NCAA single-game attendance record of 40,000. As director of athletics at the University of Idaho from 1999 to 2003, Bohn successfully led their transition to the Division I-A ranks from the Big Sky Conference. Under Bohn, UI began construction on the Vandal Athletics Center, the first athletic facilities improvement in two decades. Additionally, he spearheaded a 20% increase in the Vandal Scholarship Fund and a $350,000 surge in annual corporate support. Bohn spent three years at Colorado State University as associate director of athletics. At CSU, he was responsible for all external revenue-producing operations, including: ticket sales; fundraising through the Greater Ram Club; licensing; corporate sales; signage; capital campaigns; broadcasting rights fees; and special events. Prior to CSU, Bohn served as Director of Marketing for the College Football Association. The CFA, the precursor to the current Bowl Championship Series, consisted of six major football conferences encompassing 67 universities. The pool contains 12,000 square feet of water surface and includes a moveable bulkhead that will provide a high degree of flexibility in training course configuration. In March 2013, UC’s Campus Recreation Center was ranked the No. 1 most amazing campus student recreation center in America by bestcollegereviews.org. The Campus Recreation Center, as well as the natatorium, was designed locally by KZF Design, Inc., working with internationally renowned architect Thom Mayne of Morphosis, based out of Santa Monica, Calif. It was built by Turner Construction, and features a leisure pool as well as the varsity pool, a six court gymnasium, locker rooms, recreation offices, a food court, a juice bar overlooking the gym, a study lounge, administrative offices, weight/fitness areas and a climbing wall.

department colleagues for this tremendous opportunity and I am looking forward to the future successes I believe we will collectively achieve.”

Cincinnati native Mandy Commons-DiSalle takes the helm of the program following four seasons as an assistant coach for the Bearcats. “Mandy seized this opportunity and won the role as head coach for the Bearcats swimming and diving program,” athletics director Mike Bohn said. “She will have an immediate and lasting impact on all on our swimming constituents. She distinguished herself as the clear leader from an outstanding field of candidates. She is a former standout competitor who has transcended to being a proven recruiter with a strong commitment to student-athlete welfare. We were extremely impressed with her grit, poise and passionate attitude during our extensive search process.” During her time at UC, Commons-DiSalle has served as the recruiting coordinator for both the men’s and women’s programs. Recently, she was responsible for recruiting an eagerly anticipated, 14-member signing class for the 2014-15 season which will add depth to the UC roster in several events. “It’s a great honor to assume leadership of the Cincinnati program,” Commons-DiSalle said. “I am very proud to represent Cincinnati and my hometown University. We have some outstanding student-athletes here and I am fully invested in the development of our program and excited to be able to continue to inspire this team. I want to thank the University leadership and my athletic

On the women’s side, she helped mentor Jackie Keire to a pair of American Athletic Conference championships in 2014, while the freshman also qualified for the NCAA Championships in three events. CommonsDiSalle has also helped grow the men’s program as they continue a transition to full scholarships which began in 2013. Working as the Bearcats’ recruiting coordinator, Commons-DiSalle was responsible for leading and organizing on-campus visits for prospective studentathletes and their families, while maintaining relationships with club teams and high schools throughout the country. She also developed the budget for recruiting, while assisting with team operations for equipment orders and travel arrangements. “Cincinnati is a great swimming town,” Commons-DiSalle said. “There are great youth programs, which I was a part of growing up, strong high school teams and a wealth of prospective student-athletes and fans. We are going to do our best to keep those kids in Cincinnati while reaching out nationally and internationally to put together the best team we can.” Prior to coming to UC, she spent one season as a coach with the Cincinnati Marlins, developing swimmers aged 6-14. Prior to that, she spent two years as the owner of Varsity Athletic Consulting, a firm designed to help guide Cincinnati-area athletes through the college recruiting process. 12

Before entering the private sector, CommonsDiSalle began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant at the University of Toledo. While with the Rockets, she helped coordinate the budget, team travel, scholarship distribution and helped oversee the program’s fundraising efforts. Commons-DiSalle swam collegiately at Clemson, where she was a four-time NCAA Championship qualifier, earning Honorable Mention All-America status in 2001 and ‘02. She was also a National Strength & Conditioning All-American in 2000. She majored in economics with a minor in human resource management, receiving her degree from Clemson in 2003. She earned an MBA while coaching at Toledo. Commons-DiSalle was a three-time Ohio High School Athletic Association state champion at Sycamore High School, where she is enshrined in the school’s athletic hall of fame. She and her husband, Eric, reside in Cincinnati.
