CHOOSE YOUR OPPORTUNITY Everyone’s journey to college looks different, which is why you should choose the financial aid opportunities that work best for you. There are four types of financial aid, including grants – free money for school which is typically based on your financial need; scholarships – earned money offered by states, colleges or other organizations; work study – earned money with an on-campus, part-time job while enrolled in school; and loans – borrowed money you need to pay back with a low, fixed interest rate, which is available to both students and parents.
GRANTS To determine what free financial aid you may qualify for, submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority deadline of Feb. 1 using your parents’ 2019 income tax returns beginning Oct. 1, and be sure to use UCM’s FAFSA code 002454. The following federal grants are awarded based on the results of your FAFSA: • Pell Grant
• Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant
• Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
• Access Missouri Grant (for Missouri residents only)
• TEACH Grant By submitting your application for admission at ucmo.edu/apply, you can also apply for additional out-of-state grants, such as: • Second Generation Grant – awarded to regularly admitted, non-resident students whose parent/grandparent or step-parent/step-grandparent earned a UCM degree • Non-Resident Scholar Award – awarded based on ACT score and cumulative high school GPA

UCM’S AFFORDABILITY SPEAKS FOR ITSELF ... BUT SO DO OUR STUDENTS! “I have received a couple scholarships in the years I have been at UCM. I used the UCM Scholarship Finder, and I also received some for being a transfer student and having a good GPA. It has helped me because I am able to use that money towards my education and not have to take out as many loans.” – Lyndsey Holman Secondary Education Lee’s Summit, Missouri
“I have an academic scholarship through UCM, and I also received one alumni scholarship both last school year and for the upcoming school year. One of my favorite things about UCM is their Scholarship Finder; all you have to do is fill out an application one time and then they match you to tons of scholarships!” – Shelby St Aubyn Middle School General Science Education Bowling Green, Missouri
“[UCM scholarships] have helped me so much with being able to afford school. Additionally, they have helped me with purchasing supplies and textbooks as well as my meal plans.” – Demetrius Hampton Theatre and International Studies Kansas City, Missouri
