SUMMER CAMPS
K - 8 Grade Camps WeDo Lego Camp (For students who have completed 1st through 3rd Grades) Fee: $150 Two dates: July 9 - 13 and July 16 - 20, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm An adventure for young students, this campus uses the original WeDo kit as well as the WeDo 2.0 kit from Lego Education. Students need to be able to follow complex instructions and work with a partner in bustling, active, and sometimes noisy learning environment. On Friday parents will be invited for a demonstration. Morning camp is the same repeated Week 1 and Week 2. Do not register the same student for both weeks of WeDo.
EV3 Lego Camp (For students who have completed 4 - 7th Grades) Fee: $150 Two dates: July 9 -13 and July 16 - 20, 1:00 - 4:00 pm The EV3 camps is the MINDSTORMS EV3 robot from LEGO Education. This is not a building with LEGOS camp, but more focused on programming the robot to complete tasks. The last day of the week will be devoted to competition. Parents will be invited to watch. Max 24 students. Students can enroll in both weeks.
Stop-Motion Animation Workshop (Ages 9 - 15) Fee $150 Two dates, July 16 - 19, 1 - 5 pm and July 23 - 26, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Stop-motion animation is a fun way to capture your stories and entertain your friends and family. In this workshop, participants will work in teams of 2 or 3 to create an original story which they will animate through Claymation, LEGOŽ characters or other objects. Using a laptop and webcam they will photograph their character scenes against a Green Screen background, add voiceovers, sound effects, music tracks, titles, credits and other features to provide multimedia interest. Animation will publish to digiSTORY KC’s YouTube Channel to share.
7 - 12 Grade Camps The College Application Essay: Your Story, Our Help Fee: $45 July 13, 9am - Noon Ease the anxiety of writing your college application essay. The written essay portion of the college application today is all about stories—finding your unique story, using your own voice, and making yourself memorable to admissions officers. Criminal Profiling: Killers and Kingpins (11-12 grade Only) Fee: $75 July 11, 9 am - 4 pm Learn different profiling strategies and classifying different types of groups. Students will be assigned a cold case and work as a team to profile and classify the potential killer! Lunch will be provided PR: The Strategic Communication Experience (11-12 Grade) Cost: $99.00 (plus $85.00 for one credit hour of College Credit if desired) May 24, 9 am - 4 pm The exciting, easy-to-access Strategic Communication Experience is designed to let students explore their own professional aptitude, meet industry professionals face-to-face, explore the growing field of strategic communication, and have fun learning through friendly team competition. Future Teacher Academy (10 - 12 grade) Fee: $80 (plus $85.00 per credit hour of College Credit is available) July 23 - 27, 9 am -3pm Selected students will work together in a variety of activities to assist them in determining whether they have the potential and desire needed to become an educator. Lunch will be provided. GKCWP Stories for Justice (High School Students) Fee: $150 Monday – Thursday, July 9 - 19, 9am – Noon Open Mic Performance July 19, 6-8pm UCM Lee's Summit A two-week writing camp that helps high school students to transform personal stories into civically engaged public arguments. Students will play with digital storytelling, creative argument, and social justice writing in a supportive environment. Sport From Science (Middle and High School) Fee: $400 July 9 - 13, 8 am - 12 pm Discover how Bio-mechanical and physiological aspects influence human movement and the execution of skills at a high level in sports. Interactive Web Design, Raspberry Pi and the Internet (Middle and High School Students) Fee: $400 July 9 - 13, 8 am - 5pm Students will learn introductory programming concepts through learning the basics of Javascript, HTML, and CSS to make web pages dynamic through animations and user interaction. Additionally, the camp will teach students about programming on the Raspberry Pi.
