Stands for opportunity. About UCF The University of Central Florida (UCF) officially began as Florida Technological University in 1963. In December 1978, the name was changed to University of Central Florida and since then the institution has been a member of the State University System. All academic programs are fully accredited by the appropriate agencies, and the university is constantly developing new programs of study at all levels. UCF is one of the fastest growing research universities in the country in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. Located in the metropolitan city of Orlando, Florida, UCF supports the growth of the region by engaging in research,
4
promoting creative activities, and providing cultural diversity through the student body and its faculty. The future of UCF continues to change and grow. The UCF College of Medicine was recently approved and will benefit students of every major and strengthen the university as a whole. One of the university’s latest completed projects is a 10,000-seat on-campus Convocation Center used for the UCF basketball, volleyball teams, commencements and concerts. Also new are four towers of student housing, a Psychology Department building, and a 45,000-seat on-campus football stadium. This is a very exciting time at UCF.
The university’s culture of opportunity is driven by its Orlando environment. A great location to live, play, and study. Orlando, Florida USA Imagine living in an environment that combines the excitement of a growing, thriving metropolis with the beauty and serenity of the great outdoors. That dream is reality at UCF. On campus, you’ll find necessities like school supplies, entertainment, a hair salon, music store, and restaurants. UCF will become your home away from home. UCF’s campus provides a safe, serene setting for learning with 600 acres of natural lakes and woodlands. Yet,
the longest walk between academic buildings takes less than 10 minutes. The city is known for its year round pleasant weather and is one of the top tourist destinations in the world with over 2.6 million international visitors annually. Walt Disney World, the Kennedy Space Center, Universal Orlando, and sandy beaches are all nearby. Orlando also offers the strongest overall economy and the best job growth opportunities in the state.

The university’s culture of opportunity is driven by its youth, relevance and energy. When you need the help. UCF Financial Assistance UCF assists qualified students with the cost of graduate education by providing fellowships and tuition waivers. In addition, many departments provide professional opportunities in the form of graduate assistantships. Eligibility requirements and application guidelines for assistantships, are established by the colleges and departments. The university and graduate programs award fellowships based on your admission application and accompanying documents; however, some fellowships may require a fellowship-specific application. Fellowships and assistantships are based on academic performance and experience, so applicants are encouraged to complete the admission application as early as possible.
UCF awards $2.5 million in graduate fellowships annually and 1,500 students received graduate assistantship support last year. For more details on financial support, please visit: www.students.graduate.ucf.edu > Future Students > Financing Grad School. The federal government does not have any specific financial aid program for undergraduate international students; however, our Office of Student Financial Assistance periodically offers scholarships to non-U.S. citizens. Undergraduate students are encouraged to take advantage of research funding available to work with world-class faculty.

Michel Hemmer “The best part about my program is that we are at the forefront of what is going on in the field. That is very valuable! If I were doing my PhD in France I would probably struggle to be able to do this kind of research. Funding for research is available so we can actually be at the forefront of whatever research is going on.”
