WELCOME TO THE 2023 USA BRAIN BEE

I am delighted to welcome you to the 2023 USA National Brain Bee Championship, hosted at the University of California, Irvine's Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory I hope that you will take a moment to reflect on and celebrate your achievements thus far. Your curiosity about and dedication to understanding the brain is the lifeblood of the Brain Bee and the reason why so many neuroscientists volunteer their time to host local competitions.

This year, 40 of you from across 27 US states will come together for the National Championship. My hope is that your experience will be one of growth. You know a lot about neuroscience - otherwise, you wouldn't be here representing your local chapter as its winner - but continuous discovery is what makes science so special. I challenge you to seek opportunities in the coming days to learn new things and see old things in new ways.

Lastly, I encourage you to be intentional about community It's not every day that you have the opportunity to spend two and a half days with peers who are as passionate about neuroscience as you. Learn about each other and connect meaningfully with the UC Irvine student volunteers. You are the future and you are stronger together.

Thank you for joining us in Irvine. I look forward to getting to know each of you over the coming days.

Sincerely,

Manuella Oliveira Yassa USA Brain Bee Co-Director 2023 Championship Organizer
