[ Two dimentional to three dimentional. ]
The initial model of converting two dimentional fabric to three dimensional structure is shown in a few steps. Once stitched along the three stitching line, The fabric becomes strong as it forms legs and nodes. These allow the fabric to stand up against gravity. Once looped it gets the support from the other connecting legs and seems more balanced.
^ Areas not stitched. Transition between leg and folded cloth
The tube stucture of the fabric is then looped and intertwined as shown in the diagrams to create a complex structure. This was the first model where the fabric didn't act like a surface but could also act like a structural peice by self supporting itself.
After various tests of the previous mentioned fabric sewing and pattern techniques, it was noticed that one of the experiments had a good potential to be developed into an interesting proposal. Some basic steps of determining the cut pattern, cutting holes in the fabric, stitching the space between the holes as tubes, the fabric started behaving sturdier and seemed to have some rigidity. Once this still two dimensional sheet would be looped and inter twined and stitched, the fabric s behavior changed from a floppy two dimensional object to a three dimensional mesh which had a volume and was sturdy enough to stand on its own against gravity. Using simple steps of fabrication we could achieve a complex three-dimensional prototype from a two dimensional sheet of fabric. The other experiment s outcomes defined the investigation on how different two dimensional patterns of seams would lead to different bends in the surface of the fabric, eventually creating interesting volumetric prototypes.

generation of the tubes can be seen in the sequence where the tubes are formed by the multiplication of the tubes along the curve. The repetition of one component along the crve created the fabric like behavior of the tubes which gives it the uid behavior. Once we get the basic form we can generate and aggregate to gave a more comple form as per the three dimensional object we require to obtain. The chair developed is by aggregating the basic component gathered from the generative tool.

[ Complexity heirarchy ]
The surface and tube prototype are made to transition in a gradual process. The complexity of the model is also gradual keeping the structural part more complex and the surface part fairly simple. The heirarchy is dientiated according to the structural importance. The uidity of the fabric is frezzed due to the stitching and then hardened.

Physical Test ÂŚ Resin [ Material - Resin. Stool ]
After testing dierent materials for scaling up, a conclusion was made where the resin was a good material to harden the fabric. In this way the delicasy of the fabric could be kept intact along with hardening the fabric to become stone like hard. Many tests were done to also understand which type of resin makes the stool the hardest. The fabric with resin shows that the fabric can become stronger than ďŹ ber glass. Thus without having a mould for casting curve designs, we can harden the fabric and also give it strength.

Digital Simulation ÂŚ Column [ Component aggregation. ]
After trying the mirror cut method of designing and experimenting with its logic we created different column design that looked like our fabric begavior. Creating components or parts and making one entity in the gradual method was acheived. Thus after many trials of column design it was decided to build this chosen digital column. Since one sheet of fabric cannot build the whole column byitself, the logic of making each part from 2D o 3D was mentained.

This fashion show design was the first attemp to adapt the fabric idea into architecture. Since fabric in a signiďŹ cant element in fashion desgin, I started to think this can be an appropriate design proposal with the language we developed. Fabric has the ottential to become a surface element and also the structural tubular element in the designs. Thus exploring that potential, we looked into how we can dvelop the surface elements gradually transforming into the tubes. Investigation was made into generative fabric behavior and the uidity of the fabric was controlled in the digital models to create a design of an object with dierent heirarchy in complexity.. The digital design is created by composing different components and merging them with the seam lines or crease lines. The objects gave us the idea of trying the physical model complexity with stark contrast.

Using the generative tools of fabric generation, this model was created to hughlight the smooth transformation of the tubes to surface behaviour. The object resembles the uidity of the fabric and the cobmination of the languages has been acheived in this experiment of the object design. The creases on the surface show the seams language along with the tubular language.

[ Deisgn Proposal. ]
Taking a ruined church as the site, and using the fabric design is the motive behinf the design proposal. The ruined church is a dead space which can be rejuvinated to become a lively space by letting the fabric ďŹ ll the missing parts of the church. The fabric design as seen in the previous eleborated design research is capable of creating fabric structures which are free standing and dont need support to create structural elements. The fabric will be pre stitched before coming to the ruin church. Here with the help of the wall the fabric can be hung and hardened. Once the fabric is hardened the church seems complete in a few easy steps. The decorative designs in all tradition churches is very manually expensive and also take a long time to complete the construction of such intricate designs under all weather conditions. With the fabric pre stitched, it is possible to acheive similar results of complex uid designs in less time and more eďŹƒciently.
The site is Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh. The church is placed right in the middle of the city but is in a ruined condition. Since the fashion college is right next to the site, a proposal of creating a temporary fashion event is designed. The site is analized and to creat awareness of such a beautiful structure and also rejuninate it, an architectural proposal of the fabric construction is designed.

Adaptive Reuse of Church ÂŚ Digital Approach
[ Adaptive Reuse of Church. ]
The ruin of the church has the ceiling and altar wall missing and thus fabric construction is done to have a temporary fabric design so that it can ďŹ ll the missing parts of the existing ruined church to make it look like a complete one entity. The ceiling design has the arcs and vaults made with seams stitched in fabric and also the transition for ceiling to a complex composition of the components created through the research project. The altar wall fabric design is done considering the existing window in the ruined church. ince the temporary construction of the fabric structures is fast and easy, the fabric ceiling and altar which would be pre stitched before reaching the site, can the assembled quickly.

[ Survey Data Analysis: ]
The old residential area is small and in disorder, as well as there is no parking space and recreation facilities. We sent out our questionnaires about renovation requirement to the people living there and found out some problems inuencing their satisfaction about life through the investigation. In this way, a scientiďŹ c and reasonable schedule is developed. According to the analysis of statistics collected, we realized that the outdated facilities of the building cannot serve the essential requirements of those residents. On the other hand, the cramped area is hard to provide enough space for public communication and transport. In conclusion, the fundamental problem here is how to exploit and reactivate this space. Therefore, conserving valuable historical buildings, renovating current train space and recreating inner entertainment zone are selected methods to improve the place.
75
We keep truck lanes and railways together because they are the most representative view element for railway stations, which brings about a typical city landmark view.
As for the solution for railways, some parts are remained as unenclosed as their original appearance, while some other parts are buried under pedestrian pavement in order to make visitors walk conveniently.
The internal space of the warehouse can be divided and used casually and flexibly. The overhanging roofs forming an outdoor space is suitable for the extension of indoor shops and some artistic performance.
Platforms are one of the most typical views for railway stations. We chose a part of curved tracks and rebuilt the platform. The waiting platform called Zhong Hua Men is the most historical building. The plan is to remain and rebuild it.
The crane is a representative construction, reflecting how workers freight cargos in the past. Therefore, we decided to conserve it.
This land is surrounded by viaducts on three sides, in which case, elevations facing the highway should be emphasized. Part 2. 的需求和欲望。
Grey spaces under the Viaduct are used for parking. With low utilization rate and chaotic management, this becomes a passive space full of theft and robbery. We need to eliminate such things by opening the space and expanding views.
[ Project Analysis : ] Being blocked by railway, transportation of north-south Yuhua road is in bad situation. Only pedestrian overpass is serving walking people. We will dismantle the overpass and change this parts of railways into a main road which may help in solving this problem.
Yuhua road was occupied by merchants selling a kind of riverstone, which does not make full use of the potential popularity. We will rebuild those places into modern shops and markets.
This land locates in the extreme north of Yuhuatai District, which is dilapidated and has got little attention in the urban design. Therefore, modern cities views are interrupted by low shantytowns from north to south as well as from west to east.
There are several big commercial and office buildings located in the northern area of the spot. But the furniture market right at the opposite of the main entrance is not well operated. Thus we need to make a replacement.
Commercial scale along the street is tiny as well as the atmosphere there is chaotic and in low level, which is completely unable to meet the requirement of tourists.
76
[ Roof Terrace: ]
Using a roof terrace will not only expand the green area, but also provides a broad vision of leisure venues as well as close connection between pedestrain street and park lanes.

The long dilapidated old South needs to be injected new vitality. How can we change the impression that South is chaos while north is impecunious? By creating a vibrant public space, agglomerating people, and then turning the impression.
Transforming originally tedious boxlike facade into vivid ones with variously unique slope roofs. We also add enough sidewalks, bicycle lane, walkways to intersect the whole picture.
After the transformation, the train station has dining, leisure, entertainment, ďŹ tness, accommodation and transportation around the place to create a service function series, inject commercial energy to the spot.

A. Climate :
Pi County,in the middle of the Sichuan Basin, sits 1,100km inland in a plain surrounded by hills and mountains. Occasionally freezing in winter and reaching the low 30 s in summer , the climate is relatively mild. Clouds dominate the sky year-round , allowing only 3.5 hours a day of sunshine less than London, England. Pi County is extremely humid all year with a summer monsoon that dumps 400+mm of rain in July and August.Winds are mild as well, averaging 4-8km/hr.
B. Solar Radiation :
Pi County is one of the most overcast cities in China, receiving less sunshine than even London, England. Cloud cover is consistent year round, although much more indirect solar is available during the summer due to Pi County s proximity to the equator.
C. Sun Path Diagram :
Plan view of the sun path through the sky showing altitude and azimuth. During Pi County s summers , the sun will be facing the north side of building as much as the south , although due to cloud cover the sun s appearance will be infrequent.
D. Psychrometric Chat :
The Psychrometric chat plots each hour of the year for temperature and humidity. A typical comfort zone is
shown in yellow. Selected strategies extend the comfort zone without mechanical heating or cooling. Pi County experiences both heating and cooling seasons. Based on this chart, the most eective strategy for cooling is Natural Ventilation ; combining that with Thermal Mass will reduce some heating / cooling load throughout the year. Unfortunately there is not enough solar gain to be very uesful for heating during the winter.
E. Wind : The four seasonal wind roses show wind direction and frequency ,with higher wind speeds farther from the center of each wind rose.Mild breezes consistently come from the north, east and northeast, thougn in summer wind can come from any direction.

Design Introduction:
After receiving the task book, our team did some research into material character and how its performance influences the physical behavior. No matter through the conservation of countries human values, the innovation of innovators types, or the integrated development of tourist resources, we are aiming to create more job opportunities for countries. To put it in another way is to increase villagers incomes. The country is abundant with bamboo resources, which have so much potential to be used to fulfill our goals. To our understanding, the bamboo resources can be understood from two aspects. Firstly, we can calculate the gross production of bamboo (biological resource) in the country. Secondly, bamboo can be recreated as a local artifact to increase its own value. Of course, to amplify this point, we will create a creative and practical bamboo artifact system to make local artifact men to be involved with. To sum up, our design work is not merely an architectural design. It is also a product design.
We decided to build our design on the foundation of hand-made craft, connection of the material, practical methods for local villagers this three points. In this way, we decided to choose Proposed project 1: Bamboo Brook Culture Pavilion, Proposed project 2: Artist Workshop Village, Proposed project 3: Children s Courtyard (Forest Kindergarten) as our architectural design proposal. After analyzing the sited, site A/B/C located on the north around the river are chosen for the building design. That s how three buildings got natural connections and seperations.
PIC 05 Three building units are mainly constructed with bamboo. We learnt from some of traditional forms of bamboo handicrafts, as bamboo is born with intimacy that are extremely favored. On this basis, we make it more interesting through space scrutinies, and then give it final form through variations and modifications. The building is designed to subvert disintegrations between structural system and enclosure system in the modernist architecture. Although structural system and enclosure system play their own roles logically, they share an ambiguous boundary formally.

The site of this project is located in the campus of Southwest University of Science and Technology(SWUST). Most of the buildings nearby use slope roof as their character. The height varies a lot, nevertheless, the majority of them are below forth floor. Therefore, as a landscape architecture inside campuses, library should be located at the intersection of function axis and landscape axis with higher height, coordinating with the style of surrounding urban spaces. This design is organized as a spiral of knowledge identifying a new library culture that stages a wide range of experiences and inspiration. The natural terrain of the surrounding landscape continues as a ramp that spirals up through the central atrium of the library ‒ its heart ‒ where all search of information and orientation take place. The spiral of knowledge creates a varied study environment allowing the students to move about in the heart space of the library or to withdraw to more quiet and calm areas along the facade. The variation of sound levels and the differentiation of activities creates a versatile library that is rich in experiences. The building has its very own spatial character uniting library and multi-media functions to create synergy with the existing university complex. The façade of the library is a dark grey brass that will develop a beautiful patina over time. The metal skin will have a natural resistance to the marine conditions and harsh weather. The smaller voids in the buildings mass will use an anodized aluminum brass alloy to remain vibrant and colorful as the rest of the building transforms with time.

Vertical fins are set in similar multi-story gruopings, visually breaking down the mass. While the same blade fin profile is repeated throughout the entirely of the facade . It is rotated slightly from group to group creating a subtle change in texture to the surface of the building that will read even in flat light . As further refirement , fin direction can be tuned to respond to solar orientation to reduce glare.
