Dear UCLA Alumni and Friends, Explore Egypt on an exciting and unique new itinerary including a cruise on both the Nile River and lesser explored Lake Nasser. And enjoy two nights in Alexandria, one of antiquity’s most illustrious cities. Our tour will be accompanied by a professional tour director who is an expert Egyptologist. Your journey begins in Cairo with its renowned ancient sites: the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Memphis, Sakkara, Old Cairo and the Egyptian Museum. Then, relax during a deluxe cruise on Lake Nasser, where the country’s fascinating Nubian history unfolds. Along the desert shores of this vast manmade lake, you’ll visit ancient temples and monuments salvaged during the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The most famous of these is Abu Simbel, dating to 13th century BC. A classic Nile voyage takes you from Aswan to Luxor, with its acclaimed temples and tombs representing the pinnacle of Egyptian architecture. Here, Egyptian civilization’s intriguing cosmology is revealed as you visit the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens on the Nile’s West Bank. And on the East Bank, visit Karnak, arguably the greatest temple complex of them all. Depart from Luxor for the final leg of your journey in the Mediterranean port of Alexandria. Those who wish may join a 5-day/4-night post-tour extension to Jordan to visit both fabled Petra and the capital of Amman. Call me personally if you have any questions about Egypt. Having had the great pleasure of experiencing this destination myself last year, I can assure you’ll get a broad understanding of Egypt’s complex history on this 17-day trip. We operated three sold-out departures in 2009, so respond quickly to reserve your space. Sincerely,

Christel Pailet Director, Alumni Travel
