THE COACHES CONNECTICUT HEAD COACH PAUL PASQUALONI UConn head coach Paul Pasqualoni made his Husky head coaching debut a successful one on Sept. 3 as the Huskies topped Fordham of the FCS. The Cheshire, Conn., native was named the 28th head football coach in UConn history on January 14, 2011. Pasqualoni has had a highly-successful career on all levels of football -- professional, college and high school. He was the head coach at Western Connecticut from 1982-86 and led the team to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 1985. He had an extremely successful tenure as the head coach at Syracuse from 1991-2004. Pasqualoni led the Orange to 107 wins, four BIG EAST titles and a 6-3 postseason record. Among his bowl appearances at Syracuse were two Fiesta Bowls (1992 and ‘97) and an Orange Bowl (‘98). Pasqualoni is the all-time winningest coach in BIG EAST Conference league wins with 62 and is tied for first in overall wins with 108 with Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech. He is just one of two league coaches in history to win four BIG EAST Championships. His overall college coaching record stands at 14278-1 (34-17 at WCSU, 107-59-1 at Syracuse and 1-2 at UConn). For the previous five seasons, Pasqualoni had served on NFL staffs -- with Dallas in 2005-07 and ‘10 and with Miami in 2008-09. His first coaching job was an assistant coach at Cheshire HS from 1972-75. He is a 1972 Penn State graduate. BULLFAO HEAD COACH JEFF QUINN Jeff Quinn is in his second season in charge of the Buffalo program. His first Buffalo team had a 2-10 record in 2010. Quinn had last been the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Cincinnati of the BIG EAST for three years. Before coming to the Bearcats, he was the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Central Michigan. He came to CMU in 2004 after coaching for 15 seasons at Grand Valley State, where the team won back-to-back national championships in 2002 and ‘03. He is a 1984 graduate of Elmhurst College, where he was a two-sport standout in football and wrestling. Quinn has a master’s degree from DePauw.

RAdIO & TV COVERAGE TELEVISION COVERAGE Saturday’s game will be televised by SNY in the Connecticut and Northeast region. Jim Barbar is on play-by-play while John Gregory is on color. Mike Hadley is the producer and Dave Tasca directs. The UConn pregame show begins 90 minutes prior to kickoff, while at home games, the UConn Tailgate Show will air two and a half hours prior to the game with Kevin Nathan and Bob Joyce. UConn football on home dates gets going early with “Breakfast At The Rent” with Ray Dunaway and Scott Gray beginning at 6:00 a.m. for noon games. The UConn Football Radio Network also includes WILI 1400-AM in Willimantic and WSUB AM-FM in New London. UConn football games are also broadcast over the internet at WTIC.com. UCONN AND SNY SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, Jets and the BIG EAST Conference, in conjunction with the University of Connecticut is in its second-year of a multi-year partnership that makes SNY "the official television home of the UConn Huskies football and men's basketball programs". SNY annually features 300 hours of UConn programming - including 120 hours of Huskies game coverage. SERIES NOTES HUSKIES VS. BUFFALO ALL-TIME Saturday’s game will be the 18th time Buffalo and UConn have met and UConn leads the series by a 14-4 count. Buffalo is a very familiar non-conference foe for the Huskies as the program has ascended to the FBS level. UConn and Buffalo met in 10 of 11 seasons from 1995-2005. The Huskies have won ten of the last 11 meetings with the Bulls, with the exception being a 37-20 Bull win in Storrs in 2001. Buffalo was the only team to play UConn in all four of its first Division I-A seasons. The last meeting between the schools came on Sept. 25, 2010 as UConn topped the Bulls by a score of 45-21 at Rentschler Field. The game was tied 14-14 at the half, but pulled away in the second half for the win by scoring 31 of the game’s 38 final points. Robbie Frey led UConn in rushing with 112 yards while D.J. Shoemate had 60. AllAmerican Jordan Todman missed the game with an injury. Jerry Davis was 18 of 42 in the air for the Bulls for 227 yards of passing and three TDs. Davis also rushed for 57 yards. The two schools also met on Jan. 3, 2009, as the Huskies beat Buffalo in the 2009 International Bowl in Toronto to wrap up the 2008 season. UConn won the game by a score of 38-20. HUSKIES VS. MAC ALL-TIME Connecticut enters Saturday’s meeting vs. Buffalo with a 16-2 record against opponents from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) since making the move to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2002. The two losses includes a 30-16 defeat at Temple last year -- the week before UConn topped Buffalo. Prior to that game, Connecticut’s last loss to a MAC opponent came back on Sept. 28, 2002, when it dropped a 24-21 overtime decision vs. Ball State. Also prior to the Temple game, the Huskies have won each of their last 13 games against MAC foes by an average margin of 17.8 points over that span.

The Huskies became quite familiar with MAC foes as the school transitioned to FBS football. UConn faced four of its members in both the 2002 and 2003 seasons, two more in 2004, Buffalo in 2005 and Temple and Akron in 2007, Temple again in ‘08 and Ohio in ‘09. UConn’s wins against the MAC also includes a 39-10 win over Toledo in the 2004 Motor City Bowl. . UCONN AND BUFFALO CONNECTIONS Paul Pasqualoni posted a pair of wins over Buffalo during his tenure as the head coach of Syracuse -- 63-7 on Sept. 2, 2000 in Syracuse and Sept. 11, 2004 in Buffalo by a 37-17 count...There are six players on the UConn roster from the state of New York (none from the Buffalo area) and no players from Connecticut on the Buffalo roster. RENTSCHLER GAMEDAY At UConn home games, FanFest takes place starting four hours before kickoff up until 30 minutes before the game. It takes place between Gates A and B outside the stadium gates...The offerings change each game, but activities typically include inflatable games for children, live bands, promotional vehicles and UConn student-athletes from various teams signing autographs....The “Husky Walk” is a chance for fans to welcome the UConn team as they get off the team buses and head to the stadium. That takes place approximately two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff between Gates A and B...Once again this season at the end of home games, the UConn team will sing the “UConn Husky” fight song in front of the student section at Rentschler Field.

SQUAd NOTES HUSKIES HAVE BEEN BOWL ELIGIBLE The 2010 UConn football team won the BIG EAST Championship and advanced to play in the school’s first-ever BCS game -- the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. UConn made the bowl eligible mark for the sixth time in the past eight seasons -- and the fourth consecutive. UConn’s trip and victory over South Carolina in the 2010 Papajohns.com Bowl marked the fourth time that the Huskies went bowling and the third consecutive. The Huskies also went to the International Bowl in 2009 and defeated Buffalo. In 2007, UConn was 9-3 in the regular season and went on to the Meineke Car Care Bowl. In 2004, the Huskies went 7-4 in the regular season and won the Motor City Bowl. In 2003, UConn was 9-3, but did not go to a bowl because of its independent status.

UCONN FOOTBALL A LEADER IN ACADEMICS The UConn football program continues to be a leader in the BIG EAST Conference in terms of academic performance by its student-athletes. UConn was the top team in the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of both October 2008 and ’09 among league schools. The Huskies latest GSR, released in October 2010, UConn was third in the BIG EAST and within four points of the second place team.

>> 2011 UConn football The UConn football program also had the highest NCAA GSR for African-American student-athletes among all state universities that participated in a bowl game in 2008. In five of the past seven years, including 2007, ‘08 and ‘09, UConn was recognized by the American Football Coaches Association for its high graduation rate. UConn’s overall GSR in 2009 was the third-highest of the more than 50 state universities that participated in a bowl game. In 2011, the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the UConn football team was an impressive 953 over a four-year cycle, with a one-year mark of 959 for the 2009-10 academic year. HUSKIES VS. THE BIG EAST UConn owns an all-time mark of 22-26 in BIG EAST Conference games since joining the league for football in 2004. The Huskies posted their best conference record with a 5-2 mark in 2007 and ‘10. UConn’s current five-game BIG EAST Conference games winning streak is the longest in school history. HUSKIES ON THE ROAD SINCE 2002 The Huskies have put together a 21-29 road record since 2002. In non-conference road affairs over that same span, Connecticut has posted a mark of 16-11 and has won eight of its last 12 such games, including 2009 wins over Ohio, Baylor and Notre Dame and 2011 losses to Michigan and Temple. HUSKIES VS. NON-CONFERENCE FOES SINCE 2002 Connecticut boasts a 41-19 record against non-conference opponents in the regular season since making the move to the FBS in 2002. HUSKIES IN THE NFL As the NFL held its training camps, there are a total of 14 Huskies in NFL camps before final cuts were made. UConn had 11 former players that were on NFL rosters in 2009 (a school high) and nine former Huskies are currently on NFL rosters. The 2009 NFL Draft made history for the Huskies as four UConn players were selected in the first 63 selections. UConn is the only BIG EAST school to have four players picked that early since the league was reorganized in 2005. UConn had two players selected in the 2010 NFL Draft and four more in ‘11. The number of former UConn players on NFL teams is now nine. They are: * Offensive tackle William Beatty of the New York Giants, who is entering his third year and has six starts over the past two seasons for the Giants. * Running back Donald Brown, who is entering his third year with the Indianapolis Colts. He was UConn’s first All-American in the BCS era and the Huskies’ first NFL First Round Draft Pick. He’s with the Indianapolis Colts and played in the Super Bowl his rookie year. * Defensive back Darius Butler, who played the past two seasons for the New England Patriots, was waived by the team and then signed by the Carolina Panthers * Defensive back Tyvon Branch, who is entering his fourth year with the Oakland Raiders. He has started all 16 games for the Raiders over the past two years. * Wide receiver Marcus Easley with the Buffalo Bills, who missed all of last season (rookie) with an injury, and is on the injured reserve list again. FB, Anthony Sherman, a fifth round pick of the Cardinals TB, Jordan Todman, a sixth round pick of the Chargers LB, Scott Lutrus, who signed a free agent contract with the Jaguars and was released and was then signed by the Rams on the practice squad. LB, Lawrence Wilson, a sixth round pick of the Panthers, who was cut by the team and later resigned for the practice squad roster. HUSKIES IN THE CFL In addition, there are four former UConn players in the Canadian Football League this year. Martin Bedard (Montreal Alouettes) is entering his third year and has been part of two Grey Cup championship teams. Larry Taylor is in is fourth year in the league and is now with Calgary after spending the first three with Montreal. He was the 2009 CFL Special Teams Player of the Year. Julius Williams, who played at UConn through 2008, is in his first year with the Edmonton Eskimos. Jordan Younger is in his eighth season in the league -- all with Toronto. BALL CONTROL IS THE KEY A telling sign of UConn’s strong performance on both sides of the ball during its tenure as a FBS program has been its ability to both record and prevent long drives. Since the start of the 2002 season, UConn’s offense has strung together 78 scoring drives of at least 80 yards while the Husky defense has surrendered just 55 such marches -- including two by Michigan and Oklahoma and one by Buffalo and Cincinnati last year. UConn had two 80-yard scoring drives vs. Fordham in the 2011 opener. UConn also holds a 19-6 advantage over its opponents in the number of 90-yard and over drives since becoming a I-A program. Michigan had a 96-yarder last year. HUSKIES DOMINATING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL Over the past 104 games, UConn has outgained its opponent 64 times. This stretch, like many UConn trends, dates back to a 28-24 loss at Vanderbilt on Oct. 26, 2002. CONNECTICUT’S FOUR CAPTAINS The UConn team selected four team captains for the 2011 season, Kendall Reyes (for the second-consecutive year) and Kashif Moore with Moe Petrus and Blidi Wreh-Wilson.

OFFENSE NOTES McCOMBS MAKES IMPRESSIVE DEBUT VS. FORDHAM UConn freshman Lyle McCombs’s (Staten Island, N.Y.) 141 yards of rushing in his collegiate debut is the second-highest when compared against UConn’s top 10 career rushing leaders. The best mark belongs to Tony Jordan (No. 10), who had 144 yards vs. Northeastern to open the 1978 season. Other notables include: No. 1 Donald Brown, 118 yards vs. Rhode Island in 2006; No. 2 Terry Caulley, 62 vs. Boston College, 2002; No. 3 Jordan Todman, 81 vs. Virginia in 2008 (third game of season, was hurt for first two); No. 4 Wilbur Gillard, 91 vs. Furman in 1993; No. 6 Vinny Clements, 71 vs. Vermont in 1968; No. 7 Cornell Brockington, 25 vs. Indiana, 2003; No. 5 Ed Long, No. 8 Jeff Gallagher and No. 9 Andre Dixon did not have carries in their first career games. McCOMBS BACKING IT UP McCombs rushed for 118 yards in the Sept. 10 game vs. Vanderbilt and his first college game against FBS competition. McCombs has now rushed for a total of 308 yards in his first three collegiate games. He is currenlty the 32nd leading rusher in the country at 101.67 yards per game. THE QUARTERBACK RACE Connecticut entered the 2011 season without a quarterback who has started a collegiate game and with only one quarterback who has played in a collegiate game. UConn started three different QBs last year, who have all moved on from the program -- graduated Zach Frazer with ten starts, including the last six of the 2010 season; Cody Endres with two starts and Mike Box with one.

Here’s a quick look at the three Husky QBs who are competing for playing time this year: * Senior Johnny McEntee (Fullerton, Calif.) -- Walk-on who has played in two games over the past two seasons...gained international fame last winter with his “trick shot” video on YouTube...the video now has over six million hits...started the Fordham game and was 8 of 12 in the air for 113 yards...started the Vanderbilt game and was 10 of 27 in the air for 99 yards and three intercptions and was sacked four times...started the Iowa State game and was 13 of 30 in the air for 188 yards with one interception. * Redshirt freshman Scott McCummings (Natick, Mass.) -Redshirt freshman who attended same high school as Doug Flutie...had over 2,000 yards of passing in senior year with over 1,000 yards of rushing...passed for 15 TDs as a senior and rushed for another 12...was 1 for 1 in the air vs. Fordham with a 55-yard TD pass and also ran the ball seven times for 23 yards...carried the ball five times in the Vanderbilt game..was 1 for 3 in Iowa State game with a 39-yard TD pass to Kashif Moore. * Freshman Mike Nebrich (Burke, Va.) -- Highly-decorated Virginia high school player who enrolled at UConn for the spring 2011 semester...as a senior, broke the Virginia state record for all-purpose yards with 4,968 and scored 59 TDs...had 11 yards of rushing vs. Fordham with 60 passing yards on 3 of 8...was one of two in the air vs. Vanderbilt...was 1 for 3 in the air for two yards vs. Iowa State...also had four carries vs. Iowa State. EXPERIENCE ON THE LINE Whoever gets the nod at quarterback for the Huskies plays behind an experienced offensive line. Senior center Moe Petrus (St. Laurent, Que.) has started 42 consecutive games for the Huskies -- and the last 29 at center. Senior left tackle Mike Ryan (Tamaqua, Pa.) returns after earning All-BIG EAST first team honors last year and has started 24 games over the past two years. Junior Adam Masters (Bethesda, Md.) will play right guard and started ten games last year -- the final six at right tackle. Sophomore Kevin Friend (Warrentown, Va.) will play right tackle and had a pair of starts last year. GOING TO THE TIGHT END As the offensive philosophy of head coach Paul Pasqualoni and his offensive coordinator George DeLeone develops at UConn, throwing to the tight end has obviously been emphasized. The second-leading receiver on the team is redshirt junior Ryan Griffin (Londonderry, N.H.), who has eight of UConn’s 38 receptions this year. He also has 155 of UConn’s 563 receiving yards this year and has one of UConn’s two receiving TDs. CAREER NIGHT FOR (ISIAH) MOORE UConn senior wide receiver Isiah Moore (Cambridge, Mass) had a career-night vs. Iowa State as he had eight catches for 143 yards for two career highs. He also had a 41-yard reception, which topped his career high. His previous single-game career highs were four receptions in four different games, 76 receiving yards at Baylor in 2009 and a 28-yard long reception in that same game.

LOTS OF STARTS, STARTERS BACK Connecticut returns one of the most experienced defenses in the country and in the BIG EAST Conference this season. On the defensive line, UConn returns players that started 45 games in 2010 and 93 for their career. The linebackers have just nine career and nine starts from â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;10 returning. The secondary is also very experienced with 45 starts back from last year and 71 for their careers. For totals, the UConn defense has 100 starts returning from last season and a total of 173 career starts. JENNINGS GETS FIRST CAREER START Connecticut redshirt junior Teddy Jennings (Dayton, Ohio) made his first career start against Fordham at defensive end. He responded by making eight tackles -- with 2.5 for a loss. He enjoyed another outstadning game vs. Vanderbilt as he made four tackles with 2.5 for a loss and he had three tackles vs. Iowa State. Jennings moved into the starting linep after playing in 13 games over the past two years as a reserve. He started in place of the injured Jesse Joseph, who did not dress for the first time in his career vs. Fordham. The junior had started in 25 games over the past two years, missing one game, but dressed for it.

TEGGART CAREER LEADER IN FIELD GOALS, POINTS Redshirt senior Dave Teggart (Northborough, Mass.) has connected on all 105 of his extra point attempts during his career -including 36 in 2010 and 47 in 2009. The 47-straight extra points from 2009 is a school record while his 36 from 2010 is third. His 56 career field goals is a school record, which he broke with a 24-yard FG vs. Cincinnati in 2010. His 107 extra points is tied for second in school history while Matt Nuzie had 124 from 2003-06. His 274 career points is first in school history as he topped that record in the game at Vanderbilt. Teggartâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 25 field goals last year was a school single-season record. He had a total of 14 field goals in 2009 which is tied as the sixth-highest in school history while his 13 as a freshman is seventh. Teggart recorded what is arguably the biggest play in school history in the regular season finale of 2010 as he kicked a 52-yard field goal with 17 seconds left to play to lift UConn to a 19-16 win over USF that sent the Huskies to their first BCS game in school history. Earlier in the fourth quarter of that game, he kicked a 50yarder. Teggart matched his USF yardages on Saturday night vs. Iowa State as he tied his career high with a 52-yarder in the first quarter and added a 50-yard in the third. Teggart kicked a 27-yard field goal in overtime to lift UConn to a

16-13 win over West Virginia on Oct. 29 of last year. He had a total of three field goals in that game and was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts. Those “final play” game-winners were the second and third of his career as he ended the 2009 regular season in fine form as he booted a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give the Huskies a 29-27 win over USF. Dating back to 2009, Teggart has kicked a field goal in 16 of the past 18 games. Teggart kicked a 29-yard field goal with 1:10 to go that tied the game vs. Notre Dame (Nov. 21, 2009) -- a contest the Huskies eventually won in overtime. Teggart is the first kicker in school history to successfully convert his first 11 field goal attempts. NICK WILLIAMS LEADS THE COUNTRY IN KO RETURNS UConn sophomore Nick Williams (East Windsor, N.J.) returned two kickoffs for TDs in 2010. Against Pittsburgh he returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The KO return came at a key time as the Panthers had just gone up by eight points, 21-13. Williams also had a 100-yard KO return for a touchdown vs. Rutgers -- the fourth in school history. Williams led the country in kickoff returns last year with 35.29 yards per return. Williams becomes just the second Husky ever to have two KO returns for a TD in a career -- joined by Tyvon Branch, who had both of his in 1997. This year he has 10 kickoff returns for an average of 22.3 yards per return.

STAdIUM/ATTENdANCE NOTES RENTSCHLER FIELD The Huskies moved into brand new Rentschler Field in East Hartford for the 2003 season. Conveniently located within miles of Interstates 91, 84 and 384, the home of the Huskies lies on 75 acres of land donated to the State of Connecticut from the historic Pratt & Whitney Airfield. The stadium, like the former airfield, is named for that company’s founder, Frederick Rentschler. The stadium boasts a capacity of 40,000 with 38 luxury suites in a massive press box tower which helps enclose the natural grass field.

>> 2011 UConn football FAN NO. 2,000,000 On Friday night, UConn welcomed the 2,000,000 fans to Renstchler Field in its history. That lucky fan was Shane Buzzell and he received a variety of prizes and made an apperance on the field. The Huskies have sold out 29 of their first 53 dates at Rentschler Field, including a stretch of 12 in a row. UConn has played to 96.0-pct. of capacity all-time there, drawing 2,035,205 fans, or an average of 38,400 per game. RENTSCHLER FIELD PROVES FRIENDLY FOR HUSKIES The Huskies went 7-0 at home in 2007 at Rentschler Field and also 6-0 last year. UConn’s 3-4 mark at home in 2006 was its only sub-.500 record at Rentschler Field. The seven home wins in 2007 set a school record for a single season which was previously set in 2004. Prior to the Iowa State loss, UConn had won nine consecutive games at Rentschler Field. UConn presently stands at 40-13 all-time at Rentschler Field including a 23-5 mark in non-conference games. MICHIGAN, TENNESSEE WILL VISIT RENTSCHLER FIELD Following UConn’s trip to Ann Arbor on Sept. 4, the Wolverines will come to Rentschler Field on Sept. 21, 2013 to take on the Huskies. UConn will also play a home-and-home series with Tennessee beginning in 2015 with the Volunteers coming to Rentschler Field on Sept. 26 with a return trip to Knoxville on Sept. 3, 2016. Other upcoming non-conference opponents coming to Rentschler Field include Iowa State (2011), North Carolina State (2012) and Maryland (2013). UConn has now played host to non-conference opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 10, Big XII and Southeastern Conference at Rentschler Field.

A HOT TICKET Swelling interest in the Husky football program as it gradually moved up into BIG EAST play can perhaps be best evidenced by the rise in attendance. UConn sold 28,000 season tickets in 2008 and sold its entire allotment of student season tickets at 4,700. These figures are staggering sums considering that the entire 2001 season ticket base was around 4,000. In 2002, the number reached 11,300 in the final season of Memorial Stadium. The burgeoning season ticket base more than doubled to 24,000 for the inaugural season at Rentschler Field and rose to 28,000 a year later in 2004. UConn reached an alltime high of 32,000 season tickets in 2005.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - Freshman running back Lyle McCombs(Staten Island, N.Y) rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns in his first collegiate game as the University of Connecticut football team won their 2011 season opener, 35-3, over Fordham before a crowd of 34,562 at Rentschler Field. The game marked the Connecticut debut for head coach Paul Pasqualoni, who tied Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech for the most overall wins by a BIG EAST coach. They both have 108 victories. Pasqualoni was the first Connecticut football coach to win his debut since 1923.

The Huskies initial drive ended in a punt after two first downs, but on their second possession began to force their will on their FCS opponent after forcing a Fordham three-and-out. A six-play, 58-yard drive was capped by a McCombs two-yard run. The key play on the drive was a 24-yard pass from Johnny McEntee (Fullerton, Calif.) to Isiah Moore(Cambridge, Mass.). The Huskies started the redshirt junior McEntee, but Pasqualoni played three signal callers in the contest. Redshirt freshman Scott McCummings (Natick, Mass.) and true freshman Michael Nebrich(Burke, Va.) both played well in their Connecticut unveilings. Early in the second quarter, the Huskies took over from their own 20 and McCombs had his first big play from scrimmage, rambling 60 yards before being caught at the Ram two-yard line. Two plays later, McCombs scored from the one and Connecticut had a 14-0 lead. The Connecticut defense, which was spectacular all day, got its first turnover of the season when redshirt freshman safety Byron Jones (New Britain, Conn.) picked off a Peter Maetzold pass. On the next play from scrimmage, McCummings hit redshirt junior tight end Ryan Griffin(Londonderry, N.H.) with a beautiful 55-yard catch-and-run off of play action to put the Huskies ahead by three scores. The Huskies kept that 21-0 lead until midway through the third quarter when McCombs capped drives with scoring runs of five- and one-yard. McCombs' four touchdowns was the first time a Connecticut footballer achieved that feat since Jordan Todmanturned the trick against Cincinnati in 2009. McEntee completed eight-of-12 passes for 113 yards, while Nebrich was three-of-eight, for 60 yards and one interception. The McCummings scoring pass to Griffin was his only attempt of the game. Griffin set a career-standard with his 97 receiving yards. The Connecticut defense held the Rams to just 169 total yards of offense and was led by redshirt junior linebacker Jory Johnson(Mobile, Ala.), who had 11 tackles. Redshirt junior defensive end Teddy Jennings (Dayton, Ohio) had 2.5 tackles for loss.

McCombs rushed for his 118 yards on 27 carries and has now rushed for at least 100 yards in his first two collegiate games. Husky junior quarterback Johnny McEntee(Fullerton, Calif.) was 10 of 27 in the air for 99 yards, but had three interceptions. Larry Smith was 12 of 24 in the air for 140 yards while Jerron Seymour had eight carries for 70 yards. On Vanderbilt's first drive of the fourth quarter, redshirt freshman Yawin Smallwood (Worcester, Mass.) returned a fumble 64 yards with 10:34 left to go, giving UConn its first lead of the game, as the Huskies took a 21-14 lead. On the fumble return, Vandy had the ball at the UConn 36 and Sio Moore's(Apex, N.C.) hit of Smith jarred the ball loose and Smallwood was home free. After the UConn defense forced Vanderbilt to punt on their ensuing drive, McEntee threw his third interception of the night, as Robby Barbieri returned the interception 50 yards to tie the game at 21-21. Vanderbilt was able to take the lead with 2:56 left, as Carey Spear converted a 31-yard field goal for the 24-21 Vandy advantage. UConn trailed 14-3 at halftime, but scored the only ten points of the third quarter to make it 14-13 entering the final stanza. On Vanderbilt's third play from scrimmage of the second half, junior Jory Johnson (Mobile, Ala.) picked off a Smith pass to give UConn the ball at the Vandy 17. UConn could only move the ball six yards to set up a 28-yard field goal by senior kicker Dave Teggart(Northborough, Mass.). The Huskies then cut the lead to a point, 14-13, as redshirt freshman Byron Jones(New Britain, Conn.) blocked a punt in the endzone. It was UConn's first blocked punt since 2008 and the first for a TD since 2002. Connecticut moved the ball efficiently on the first possession of the game as it marched the ball to the Commodore 12-yard line with a first down. The Huskies could only manage four more yards, which set up a 25-yard field goal by Teggart. The field goal gave Teggart the UConn career scoring record with 262 points, which he extended later in the game. Vanderbilt went four and out on its first possession, but McEntee threw a first down interception picked off by Kenny Ladler that put the ball at the UConn 42. Vanderbilt came right back on the next play with a 42-yard TD pass from Smith to Chris Boyd to give the Commodores a 7-3 lead. Vandy took a 14-3 lead on a 40-yard rush by Seymour on a second and ten play that capped a six-play 80 yard drive. The Commodores had 134 yards of total offense in the first quarter and 82 of them came on scoring plays. The Commodores maintained the lead 14-3 at halftime after a second quarter that did not feature any scoring as UConn only had 35 yards of total offense with VU having 28.

Connecticut redshirt senior wide receiver Isiah Moore recorded careerhighs in receptions and yards with eight catches and 143 yards. The winning score for Iowa State came with 9:08 left in the game when freshman Ja'Quarius Daniels leaped over a pair of UConn defenders and raced across the goal line for a 20-yard touchdown reception from junior quarterback Steele Jantz. Jantz threw three interceptions in the first quarter but finished with 200 yards. The Huskies used a trio of quarterbacks with redshirt junior Johnny McEntee taking the majority of snaps as he went 13-30 for a season-high 188 yards. Redshirt freshman Lyle McCombs led the UConn running game with 46 yards on 18 rushes. Sophomore Shontrelle Johnson and redshirt sophomore James White split the carries for ISU with 14 apiece. Johnson went for 65 yards, while White ran for 44. Connecticut opened the game with a 10-play, 57-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown for redshirt freshman quarterback Scott McCummings. McCummings, in the game for just his second play, was initially ruled down at the one-yard line, but after an official review it was determined that the ball crossed the goal line prior to his knee hitting the ground. For the game, McCummings rushed for 38 yards on 10 carries. The two teams would trade turnovers several times in the remaining minutes of the first quarter as redshirt junior Dwayne Gratz picked off Jantz on the Cyclone's first play from scrimmage. Gratz returned the ball 19 yards to the ISU 41-yard line, but UConn gave the ball back on the very next play as McEntee was intercepted by Steve Ruempolhamer. Jantz was intercepted again, with less than three minutes to play in the first, by redshirt freshman Byron Jones, which set up a 52-yard field goal by redshirt senior kicker Dave Teggart to put the Huskies up 10-0. For Teggart, it tied his career long. Before the end of the first, UConn would force a third turnover as Jory Johnson grabbed a ball off a pass broken up by linebacker Sio Moore. Despite outgaining Iowa State 101-4 in the first, Connecticut went into halftime up only 10-7 as the Cyclones held a 114-13 advantage in the second quarter. ISU got on the board when James White broke loose for a 26yard touchdown run to cut the Huskies lead to three. The Cyclones went on top early in the third quarter when White flipped the ball to junior WR Josh Lenz on a reverse, who threw a deep ball for Darius Reynolds to take into the end zone. UConn came back with a 50-yard field goal from Teggart, the second time in his career he converted two field goals of 50 yard. With 6:44 left to play in the quarter, Iowa State added to its lead with a 36-yard field goal by senior kicker Zach Guyer, to go up 17-13. Connecticut regained the lead early in the fourth quarter as McCummings hooked up with redshirt senior wide receiver Kashif Moorefor a 39-yard touchdown to take a 20-17 lead.
