ASPLUND PHILOSOPHY Our philosophy has always been to create clean, elegant lines that never go out of fashion and products of a quality that ensures durability. A good, new design that is interesting and that you will enjoy having as long as it is with you. To us, a product of good design is one that you can use and combine with almost any style, that looks good in any colour, and that seems to have been there forever. We are meticulous in producing our furniture and carpets. Details are made with utmost care, and materials are chosen because they are best suited and are durable in their application. One of the characteristics of Swedish design is that an item of furniture is something you live with, is pleasant to look at and is practical to use. In addition, it should age gracefully. Awareness of our consumer society and our endangered environment inspires us always to look at the most sensible alternative - be it a material that makes the product last longer, or an organic treatment process and material, or fair and satisfying working conditions.

ARC Designed in 2000 by Claesson Koivisto Rune. The aim was to create a table with two proportions - very slim when viewed from above, and a more solid appearance from another angle. The arched shape is very significant for this table. Every corner is made by hand and all fittings are individually mounted and inspected. It comes either as a coffee table or in a dining table/desk height. It is produced in three finishes natural oak, white stained oak and dark oak.

BERMUDA

Table Bermuda by Thomas Eriksson

The new Asplund mega table by Thomas Eriksson comes in large sizes. The triangular frame legs are very well matched to the way we sit at a table and make it easy to seat many people around the table. Just right for big dinner parties. The solid structure with the well defined top gives the impression that the table floats in the room.

BERMUDA DESK With the same design as the Bermuda Table, this sleek desk is perfect for the working space at home or in the office. The cut out and cable trench is ideal for computer cords and desk lamps.

By Claesson, Koivisto, Rune A complete storage system with different floor standing options in massive oak. The idea with the wall mounted cabinet (V40W) is to easily be able to add on and create an endless Vass pattern. The series also includes a wardrobe system, a desk with hidden drawer along with a table perfect for the dining room. All items have cable and air outlets for electrical equipment.

23

ASPLUND

RAND By Claesson, Koivisto, Rune 2004. With its linear pattern, the RAND range gives a horizontal and calm feel to the room. The lines create an illusion of hidden drawers. Drawers are provided with a soft closing system. The modules with doors always have a perforated back for air circulation and easy access for electric wiring for using the units to house your DVD player or hi-fi system.

CARPETS

ASPLUND CARPETS Asplund is focused on the philosophy of creating products that are timeless instead of following current trends. In our range of carpets, we also specify high quality and timeless yet contemporary design. With a little help from some of today’s best known Swedish and international designers, we have created an exclusive carpet collection of hand tufted and hand knotted carpets, as well as Tibetan rugs and Dhurries. Every carpet is unique. It is made by hand with the colours and sizes specified by the customer – right from the very beginning, when the wool is spun into yarn, dyed in a boiling pot, and then tufted, knotted or woven into a beautiful and durable carpet. One of the strengths of our carpets is the very high quality

of the New Zealand wool we use. The fat wool gives the carpet more lustre, while making it more resistant to stains and more durable. We have not compromised on these principles in any way. A carpet from Asplund is always soft and comfortable to walk, sit or lie on, possibly just because it is a hand-made natural product. All of this together contributes to the carpet being durable and giving pleasure for decades to come.

CARPETS/WOOLSILK

WOOLSILK Asplund’s Woolsilk grade is a high quality blend of New Zealand wool and viscose. The combination of slightly higher cut pile and the addition of viscose give the carpet a vivid and luxurious lustre. The Woolsilk designs available are the Île range by Piero Lissoni, Trace by Ola Rune, Golden Section by Eero Koivisto and Echo Bunny by Thomas Eriksson. This grade is also available in rectangular or round shape, made to order in the size you specify.

CARPETS/PLATINUM

ASPLUND PLATINUM Imagine picking out your dream carpet. Choose the best possible technique. Select the highest quality of yarn, and feel your way through to the softest silk. That’s what we did when we developed the Asplund Platinum carpets. They are hand made all the way through of a mixture of 75% New Zealand wool and 25% finest silk. Eminently skilled craftsmen make a succession of tiny knots to create a unique, beautifully vivid carpet. We have chosen two of the highest quality techniques to work with: Indo Nepal and Tibetan.

INDO NEPAL HANDKNOTTED A tightly knotted carpet with 40 knots per decimetre and with an incredible 8 threads in one knot. This technique produces an even and smooth surface. It has small shifts in colour, which intensifies the feeling of the carpet having been made by hand. Carpets made with this technique can be produced in a single colour or in most of our designs, and of rectangular or round shape. The platinum carpets always come with the platinum label.

37

ASPLUND

TIBETAN HANDKNOTTED Tibetan is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious techniques and it comes in many variations. The knot is somewhat different from the hand-knotted. The knots are also bigger, with about 16 threads in each knot. Asplund’s Tibetan has a pile that is a little higher than other carpets in the collection, and the appearance is vivid, ethnic and soft. The colour has a fascinating depth, and even though it is just one colour, it seems as though there are thousands of hues. Tibetan comes in rectangular shapes, and single colour to start with.

ASPLUND CARPETS/DHURRIES

DHURRIES The Dhurrie technique is often used and has long traditions in Indian culture, where it is very often seen on the backs of elephants, as seat protection or as floor covering. The tradition is to make them of cotton or of wool. Asplund’s Dhurries are hand woven from the finest New Zealand wool, and they are available in several colour combinations and in a number of selected sizes. Asplund Dhurrie carpets are available in twotone or single colours.
