ABBY GUERRA
Little more than a year after nearly losing her life in a vehicle accident in her native Arizona, soccer player Abby Guerra has plans to visit her friends and teammates at the University of Evansville in late September. The Aces’ midfielder has shown remarkable spirit and determination as she continues striving toward her long-term goal of returning to UE as a student. “I tell people to never stop trying,” Guerra says. “I’m determined to get back to where I used to be.” Medical procedures and rehabilitation continue, and friends are encouraged to donate to the Abby Guerra Donation Account through Wells Fargo Bank at 3039 W. Peoria #102-145, Phoenix, AZ 85029.

STRENGTH PROGRAM
Strength & Conditioning Coach Joe Hermes designs strength programs specifically for each player to maximize their performance level. Soccer players also become stronger, fitter and less prone to injuries under Hermes’s direction. Both Hermes and Assistant Coach Dexter Wolf are Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists. “The goal of our program,” says Hermes, “is to work in conjunction with the coaching staff to make sure each soccer player is more athletic, better conditioned and structurally balanced.”
ATHLETIC TRAINING
Athletic Trainer Troy Coppus works directly with the women’s soccer team to assure that each player is in the best possible physical condition before competition begins. When injuries do occur, the University of Evansville staff of certified trainers works with Team Physician Dr. Andrew Saltzman and the physical therapy professionals from ProRehab (below).

2011 ACES
With more than 80 percent of their scoring returning from a team that reached the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semifinals last November, there’s reason for optimism with the 2011 Aces.
The offense begins with sophomore Breanna Beine, the MVC Freshman of the Year who was first team all-conference. She scored a team-high seven goals. Classmate Kaitlin Robinett spent most of her freshman year as a defender, but moved to forward late in the year and finished second in scoring to earn honorable mention all-MVC honors and a place on the MVC All-Freshman Team. The third returning all-MVC player is senior Sam Conrad, UE’s leader on defense the past two years. Junior goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison is also back after setting a UE record by stopping 116 shots. Head coach Krista McKendree is hoping a more experienced team means a less busy goalkeeper. “One of the biggest differences and positives this year is the amount of returning high impact minutes we have,” according to McKendree. “All of our returners have been involved heavily on the field for us in their time here, which means they’ve already gone through the huge learning curve.” Kasey Cartwright (2-1-5), Dani Langness (1-1-3) and Olivia Robinson (0-0-0) are UE’s most veteran players in the midfield. Also returning to the starting lineup are sophomore forward Stephanie Thompson (2-3-7) and sophomore defender Lauren Tiernan (1-2-4). McKendree is also looking for help from junior forward Kristen Davis, UE’s top scorer in 2009 with five goals. There are also nine freshmen and Auburn University transfer Tasha Prentice who will push the veterans for playing time. “I believe that we have compiled a team that is capable of competing very well and challenging for the conference,” McKendree says. “They all know how difficult college soccer is and that success does not come easily. At the end of the day, the responsibility falls on the shoulders of our coaching staff to prepare our team for every game.”
First Team All-MVC Forward Breanna Beine
COACHING STAFF
Head Coach
Krista McKendree
Krista McKendree brought success to the University of Evansville as a player, and now she’s doing the same as a coach. The leader of the 2008 MVC Coaching Staff of the Year, McKendree became the first coach in UE history to lead a team to an NCAA Division I Tournament in his or her rookie year. She was also part of the MVC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2006 as an assistant coach at UE. McKendree led the Aces to the NCAA Tournament as a player in 1998, 1999 and 2001. She was Evansville's first All-American in women's soccer, in 2000, and in 2006 was chosen for the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer All-Centennial Team. UE won three MVC regular season titles, three MVC post-season tournament titles, and reached the NCAA Tournament three times during her career. In McKendree's four years as a player at Evansville, the Aces posted a record of 52-28-7. Krista and her husband, Mike Board, are expecting their first child in January.
COACHING STAFF Assistant Coach Chris Cahill
Assistant Coach James Thorpe
Chris Cahill joined the Aces’ soccer staff as assistant coach in March following two years at Auburn University. Cahill holds an Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA (USSF "B" Equivalent) and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. "Chris brings a wealth of knowledge, great personality, and new connections with him," says Head Coach Krista McKendree. "I am looking forward to working with Chris and having him make a positive impact on our program." A graduate of Georgia Southern University, where played as a defender from 2004-06, Cahill spent two years as assistant boys' soccer coach at nationally ranked Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Ga. before coming to Auburn. Harrison was ranked No. 1 in the country in 2008, and won Regional championships in 2008 and 2009. Six players from the 2008 squad accepted Division I scholarships. At Auburn, Cahill helped the program to the SEC West title and an atlarge pick to the NCAA Tournament. Under his direction, players also earned numerous post-season awards, including selections to All-America, topdrawersoccer.com, and first and second team All-SEC teams. Now in his second year on the Aces’ coaching staff is James Thorpe, an MLS goalkeeper for DC United in 2008. He played for DC United against Mexican First Division opponent Cruz Azul in a CONCACAF Champions League match in addition to playing in seven matches in Reserve Division play. In 2009, Thorpe played in the USL for the Western Mass Pioneers. Thorpe led Franklin Pierce University to the NCAA Division II title in 2007, earning the NSCAA Division II National Player of the Year award. The native of East Longmeadow, Mass. was a three-time NSCAA All-American. "James’s role has expanded from working solely with our goalkeepers to training the entire team during the off-season,” Head Coach Krista McKendree says. "He has added a new dimension to our team with his warm-up routine for the players. His experience as a player combined with his passion for the game has made James a very good addition to our staff. The whole team has benefited from his experience as both a collegiate and professional player.”

She played an important role in FC Pride's 2009 run to the State Cup championship, and for the 2010 Midwest Regional League champions. Coach McKendree on Taylor Clauson: "Taylor is an energizer bunny. She never stops working. I am excited for her to help continue to increase our work rate in the middle of the field. It’s great to have two of our incoming girls (Clauson and Brand) be very familiar with each other." Why UE? "I loved the small campus atmosphere, and the soccer team. It is a wonderful school to play Division I athletics and get individualized academic attention."
# 2 1 Ashley Chrisman 5'8 Freshman Defender Chelsea, Mich. Chelsea
A standout at Chelsea High School and for the Novi Michigan Jaguars, Chrisman has more experience as a defender than any other UE newcomer. She helped lead the Jaguars to four State Cup appearances, and helped lead Chelsea High School to the state semifinals in 2009 and to a sectional championship in 2010. Coach McKendree on Ashley Chrisman: "Ashley is going to add some speed and tenacity to our backline. She also has the quickness and mindset to help us create the attack out of the back." Why UE? "UE has an outstanding physical therapy program. Plus, the chemistry with the soccer team is great, the girls are very welcoming, and UE has great coaches who I cannot wait to play for."
# 1 9 Caitie Dierkes
5'4 Freshman Midfielder St. Louis, Mo. Nerinx Hall
A member of the highly successful St. Louis Scott Gallagher soccer club, Dierkes was a member of the Elite Club's National League. She played on the Missouri State Cup semifinalist team in 2008, and was an all-conference player and team captain at Nerinx Hall in 2010. Coach McKendree on Caitie Dierkes: "Caitie continues to add depth and competition to our midfield. She is very good technically and tactically, and plays for one of the best clubs in the Midwest. She is a typical soccer player from St Louis–a soccer junkie." Why UE? "Because of a recommendation from my high school coach, and because of UE's physical therapy program and their soccer program."
THE PLAYERS
# 0 Erin Flynn
5'8 Freshman Goalkeeper Independence, Ohio Walsh Jesuit
An all-district goalkeeper who helped lead her club team to a State Cup championship in 2009, Flynn becomes the second keeper on the 2011 Aces' squad. Flynn posted 19 shutouts and allowed only six goals as a senior at Walsh Jesuit High School, after totaling 14 shutouts as a junior and eight as a sophomore. Coach McKendree on Erin Flynn: "We are glad that we were able to find Erin so late in the process. She is expected to come in and challenge for playing time. Erin is a great young lady who we are thrilled to have joining our squad." Why UE? "The business program is the best I've seen at any school, and the study-abroad program is also very strong and something that I'm interested in."
# 2 4 Brianne Ikerd

Ikerd was a three-year team captain and two-time honorable mention all-league midfielder at BNL. She led the Stars to a 12-4 record and their most successful season in school history as a senior, and was chosen as recipient of the Coach's Award for leadership. Ikerd was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and three-year letterwinner in tennis at BNL. Coach McKendree on Brianne Ikerd: "Brianne had an excellent career at the high school level. She was a leader on her team, she loves the game, and she can help us with our depth in the midfield." Why UE?
"The atmosphere of the school, team, and town are something I am excited to be a part of. I feel like UE was the best fit for me."

A defender at McCluer North and for the Florissant United Soccer Club and JB Marine, Graham is a four-time all-conference selection at the high school level. She also helped lead JB Marine to second place in the 2009 Missouri State Cup. Graham received the MSHSAA Award of Excellence for exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity. Coach McKendree on Miranda Graham: "Miranda is a very nice surprise addition that we were able to see at our camp. She impressed us immediately with her work ethic, attitude, and ability to compete. Miranda will be a great addition to our ACES family." Why UE? "Direct entry into physical therapy program, and nice sized school with small classes."
# 1 1 Tatiana Pagan
5'1 Freshman Midfielder Las Vegas, Nev. Palo Verde Pagan was Most Valuable Player in 2009-10 for Neusport FC. She also made the All-Southern Nevada State Team in 2009-10. Pagan has been part of teams that have won six consecutive Nevada State Cups, and has been All-Southern Nevada three years in a row for her Palo Verde High School team. Coach McKendree on Tatiana Pagan: "Tatiana is small and feisty, and does a lot of the dirty work. She has been surrounded by many players who will play at a very high level, which has helped improve her speed of play and decision-making ability." Why UE? "I believe in the success and credibility of UE and its soccer program. I will learn new things and explore a culture outside of my comfort zone.
