proGramme Parkview Conference Room,
Space exploration is experiencing a boom. While the government party-line is that ‘there’s nothing out there,’ behind the scenes the major powers, some minor powers, and some mega-rich private speculators are funding a whole host of ‘exploratory’ ventures into the great unknown. (I refrain from calling space the last great unknown, because the bottoms of the oceans and the interior of the Earth are still technically waiting to be discovered.) So, for what purpose is humanity still pushing into space? Despite Stephen Hawkings’ recent admission that extraterrestrial life is a certainty, the general consensus remains that there can’t be any intelligent life anywhere nearby the Earth (‘nearby’ being a subjective term given the vast distances involved, of course). So, if it’s not intelligent life we’re looking for, then what’s going on? Why do we continue to push for the Moon if there’s nothing there? And how about Mars? Nope, nothing there either… Or is there? Anybody who follows the news will no doubt be as confused as I am, given the conflicting reports we are constantly bombarded with. First there’s no water on the Moon, then there is water on the Moon. And now we’re told there’s no water on the Moon again. And how did that come about? Why, some intelligent boffin thought that getting Neil Armstrong’s original moon rocks out of dry storage after 40 years and looking for water in them was the obvious way to shut up all these ‘water on the Moon’ claims. (Speaking of ‘obvious’, I imagine it depends on what kind of rock you are looking at as to whether it contains water or not. I also imagine that your average Earth rock, after sitting in a dusty cupboard for 40 years, wouldn’t have much water left in it either, huh.) So, while we argue over the whys and wherefores of water on the Moon, how long will it be before the back-flip over life on Mars? Somehow I don’t think dragging out those 40-year old photographs of the Martian pyramids will help our case much, which must be why Russia is still planning that trip to the Red Planet…

may - July 2010 Beerwah, Sunshine Coast, 9 May 2010, 6.30pm At approximately 1830hrs on the 9th of May 2010, my wife and myself were witness to a bright red and orange light in the sky directly north of our location in Beerwah, visible from the north facing, or front, side of our house. Initially the light appeared to be that of a meteor or comet due to its colouring and 'flame like' appearance. The light moved very slowly from right to left across the sky, maintaining its appearance and colour, then appeared to proceed in our immediate direction, from where it moved once again from right to left across the sky. My wife went inside to retrieve our SLR camera in an attempt to capture this moving light in the sky, however by the time the camera was set up, and with our minimal distance lens, we were unable to get a clear photo of the light. We did however get a photo of it once it had moved what appeared to be quite a distance from us. The light made no noise what-soever, which was one of the initial concerns of both myself and my wife as it clearly could not be a conventional aircraft. Additionally we ruled out the initial theory that it could be a comet or meteor as it seemed to move on its own.
Coolangatta, 9 May 2010 I would like to report a sighting of a UFO. I was sitting down watching the television when I looked out the window and saw a UFO, faster than an airplane and same colour as
4
a star. It flew over Mudgeeraba/ Nerang and headed towards Coolangatta. I have never seen anything move so fast in my life, it amazed me. It was too close to be a shooting star.
Windsor, 2007, reported June 2010 I was sitting on my balcony in Windsor around 1.00am, in mid-2007, when my boyfriend and I saw a massive round ball of white light go very fast across the top of my balcony. It seemed really low and didn't make any sound, which you would expect of an airplane. It was so bright white and appeared to glow. My boyfriend and I have never seen anything like it and I have no doubt what I saw, it just it went over so quick we couldn't look at it longer.
M1 freeway, Gold Coast area, 5 June 2010, 1.30pm I wrote to you early last year about a UFO sighting by my girlfriend and I in Brisbane. Well this morning I think I've seen another one! I heard on the news that there was a spiralling light all up the East Coast, but aside from that, at about 1.30pm, I was driving up the M1 from the Gold Coast towards Brisbane and noticed a bright light which would have been somewhere over Moreton Bay (probably). I watched it for about 5 seconds and then it disappeared and left some smoke or white vapour in its place. Perhaps I'm biased because of the mass UFO sighting from this morning and my own previous sighting... plus all the documentaries out there... but what could this have been?
Bridgeman Downs, 5 June 2010, 3.00am I cannot believe I am writing this here, but last night my life changed. I have seen lights in the sky once that we thought were odd, but usually shrugged it off. Last night at three am I got up for a nighttime visit to the bathroom. On my return to my bedroom I looked out over the city to the north. I live in Bridgeman Downs. In the night sky I saw something that looked like a star or a very bright helicopter. It looked odd. At first I thought a helicopter was coming at us, but it was too close. None of the parameters fitted. I rubbed my eyes, but I couldn't see the chopper. The light then dropped altitude rapidly and I realized it was much higher than I thought. It fell downwards erratically, changed direction oddly and rapidly, and then shot off over the horizon. There is no aircraft on this planet that could move with those parameters. Angels, UFO's. I don't know, but it was not human...
Clermont, Qld, 5 June 2010, 6.00am At about 6.00am, Saturday morning 5th day of June 2010, I saw a weird light in the eastern sky. It was travelling very slowly, and looked to be about 200 meters above the trees. This was on a mine site in central Queensland. There were no flashing lights as on planes or choppers. It had several lights on it, the main light was on the front and seemed to be pointing downwards. The object was slightly covered by fog or cloud, but the morning was crystal clear with no cloud or fog. The object slowly turned away from

me and faded and totally disappeared from sight. Several people saw the same light -- maybe some one else saw this also. [Editor's note: As this sighting took place at the same time a mysterious spiral light was observed over the Australian east coast, the witness was asked if televised film footage of the spiral light matched the object he saw over Central Queensland. His response follows:] I saw the spiral light on TV but it looked different -- the one I saw looked more like a machine of sorts. It would only have been a kilometre away from us. It seemed so slow, but I probably only watched it for a minute or so before it veered away and disappeared. The one on TV looked a long way away. Also some friends in north Queensland on a remote cattle property saw something similar on the Saturday morning, low to the trees, about 6.45am.
Caboolture, 9 June 2010, 4.30pm On Wednesday 9 June at around 4.30pm I was standing in my yard looking at the horizon, and noticed a series of lights in a straight line. The object was definitely not a plane as it moved directly up in the skyline. Once it had moved directly up, it started to head south a little and then stopped for a few seconds. It then continued directly up in a straight line until it was out of my line of sight. The lights were white lights and didn't flash at all, which would have made me suspicious of a plane if they had. There were possibly ten lights in a straight line and the craft appeared to be black in colour.

Western Australia, 18 June 2010, 6.30pm A UFO was sighted heading east to west, crossing the sky in under 30 seconds. It was the brightest light (white) in the sky and was not a satellite -- it was going FAR too fast. It disappeared mid-horizon over the Great Southern Ocean at 6:30pm Western Australian time, directly above due south, 1/4 of the way above the horizon. It looked like it was heading towards Tassie.
Brisbane, 5 July 2010, 3.00pm I saw a very bright white light hovering today at approximately 3.00pm. I was in Queen Street mall and it was in line with Albert St. It was stationary for the three odd minutes I was there (it was there when I arrived), then it went in a west-north-west direction, losing its glow. It was glowing intermittently as it moved, but most of the time it was moving it was invisible. The rest of the time it was a small black speck or faint light, as if it were many kilometres away. That's the interesting thing, given that seconds before it was a very large, extremely intense constant glow that never wavered in intensity or movement. The sun was directly over the top of it so it could have been reflection, but helicopters don't have straight or large roofs. The size of the glow seemed out of proportion to the size of the object when leaving. The sky behind it was clear and bright. The sun was white and not yellowish.
Eagleby, Qld, 9 July 2010, 7.30pm I saw a bright light in the direction of the west at approximately 7.30pm -7.35pm. The sky was clear of clouds

and the stars appeared visible to the naked eye. The light we noticed was 10 times brighter than any other stars in the sky. The light stayed constant and shining. It did not move -- it was in a stationary position. The light was golden white and almost diamond shaped -- when the light dispersed it shone outward but did not illuminate further beyond the light itself. The light appeared far out in the sky and did not appear like an airplane light. It was stable and did not have any other lights that would lead you to believe it was an aircraft. The light stayed in the same place for approximately 10 - 15 minutes, to around 7.50pm where we re-entered the house. We went back outside again at approximately 815pm and the light was no longer in the sky. Is this just the atmosphere impacting on starlight on the horizon making it appear brighter? Or was this a UFO?
Burwood, NSW, 12 July 2010 Not sure what I saw today -- I couldn't take a picture either because it happened so quick. I was staring at the sky just over Burwood in Sydney whilst my girlfriend was driving along Parramatta Rd, when I found I was looking at a very bright light just like that on a plane when it uses its fog lights. The light then circled like a light house and then disappeared into thin air. This may sound stupid but it's the only way I could explain the story.

the
dalnegorsk ufo crash Philip Mantle & Paul Stonehill
Extracted from 'UFO CASE FILES OF RUSSIA' by Philip Mantle and Paul Stonehill, now available from Healings of Atlantis at: www.healingsofatlantis.com. This internationally famous UFO incident took place in 1986, on January 29, at 7:55pm. Some have called it the Roswell Incident of the Soviet Union. The information concerning this incident was sent to us by a number of Russian ufologists. Dalnegorsk is a small mining town in the Far East of Russia. That cold January day a reddish sphere flew into this town from a southeastern direction, crossed part of Dalnegorsk, and crashed at the Izvestkovaya Mountain (also known as Height or Hill 611, because of its size). The object flew noiselessly, and parallel to the ground; it was approximately three meters in diameter, of a nearperfect round shape, with no projections or cavities, its colour similar to that of burning stainless steel. One eyewitness, V. Kandakov, said that the speed of the UFO was close to 15 meters per hour. The object slowly ascended and descended, and its glow would heat up every time it rose up. On its approach to Hill 611 the object “jerked”, and fell down like a rock. All witnesses reported that the object “jerked” or “jumped”. Most of them recall two “jumps”. Two girls remember that the object actually “jumped” four times. The witnesses heard a weak, muted thump. It burned intensively at the cliff’s edge for an hour. A geological expedition to the site, led by V. Skavinsky of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences (1988), had confirmed the object’s movements through a series of chemical and physical tests of the rocks collected from the site. Valeri Dvuzhilni, head of the Far Eastern Committee for Anomalous Phenomena, was the first to
ufO encounter
investigate the crash. With the help of our colleagues in Russia this is the most accurate account of the incident to date. Dr. Dvuzhilni arrived at the site two days after the crash. Deep snow covered the area at the time. The site of the crash, located on a rocky ledge, was devoid of snow. All around the site remnants of silica splintered rocks were found, (due to exposure to high temperatures), and were “smoky” looking. Many pieces, and a nearby rock, contained particles of silvery metal, some “sprayed”-like, some in the form of solidified balls. At the edge of the site a tree-stump was found. It was burnt and emitted a chemical smell. The objects collected at the site were later dubbed as “tiny nets”, “little balls”, “lead balls”, “and glass pieces” (that is what each resembled). Closer examination revealed very unusual properties. One of the “tiny nets” contained torn and very thin (17 micrometers) threads. Each of the threads consisted of even thinner fibers, tied up in plaits. Intertwined with the fibers were very thin gold wires. Soviet scientists at such facilities as the Omsk branch of the Academy of Sciences, analyzed all collected pieces. Without going into specific details suffice it to say that the technology to produce such materials was not yet available on Earth...except for one disturbing account. To give an idea of the complexity of the composition of the pieces, let us look at the “iron balls”. Each of them had its own chemical composition: iron, and a large mixture of aluminum, manganese, nickel, chromium, tungsten, and cobalt.
Such differences indicate that the object was not just a piece of lead and iron, but some heterogeneous construction made from heterogeneous alloys with definite significance. When melted in a vacuum, some pieces would spread over a base, while at another base they would form into balls. Half of the balls were covered with convex glass-like structures. Neither the physicists nor physical metallurgists can say what these structures are, nor what their composition is. The “tiny nets” (or “mesh”) have confused many researchers. It is impossible to understand their structure and nature of formation. A. Kulikov, an expert on carbon at the Chemistry Institute of the Far Eastern Department of the Academy of Sciences, USSR, wrote that it was not possible to get an idea what the “mesh” is. It resembles glass carbon, but conditions leading to such formation are unknown. Definitely a common fire could not produce such glass carbon. The most mysterious aspect of the collected items was the disappearance, after vacuum melting, of gold, silver, and nickel, and the appearance--from nowhere--of molybdenum, that was not in the chamber to begin with. The only thing that could be more or less easily explained was the ash found on site. Something biological was burned during the crash. A flock of birds, perhaps, or a stray dog; or someone who was inside the crashed object? Dr. Dvuzhilni’s article was published in a Soviet (Uzbekistan) Magazine NLO: Chto, Gde, Kogda? (Issue 1, 1990, reprint
7
of an article in FENOMEN Magazine, March 23, 1990). In his article Dalnegorski Phenomen V. Dvuzhilni provides details unavailable elsewhere. The southwesterly trajectory of the object just about coincides with the Xichang Cosmodrome of the People’s Republic of China, where satellites are launched into geo-synchronous orbit with the help of the Great March-2 carrier rockets. There is no data of any rocket launches in the PRC at the end of January. At the same time, Sinxua Agency reported on January 25, 1988, that there was a sighting of a glowing red sphere not far from the Cosmodrome, where it hovered for 30 minutes. Possibly, UFOs had shown interest toward the Chinese Cosmodrome in the years 1989 and 1988. There is another curious detail: at the site of Hill 611, small pieces of a light gray color were discovered, but only in the area of the contact. These specimens did not match any of the local varieties of soil. What is amazing, the spectroscopic analysis of the specimens matched to the Yaroslavl tuffs of the polymetalic deposits (i.e. the specimens possessed some characteristic elements of the Yaroslavl, but not the Dalnegorsk, tuffs). There is a possibility that the object obtained pieces of tuff in the Yaroslavl area. Tuffs experience metamorphosis under the effect of high temperatures. The site of the crash itself was something like an anomalous zone. It was “active” for three years after the crash. Insects avoided the place. The zone affected mechanical and electronic equipment. Some people, including a local chemist, actually got very sick. This Hill 611 is located in an area of numerous anomalies; according to an
article in the Soviet digest Tainy XX Veka (Moscow, 1990, CP Vsya Moskva Publishing House). Even photos taken at the site, when developed, failed to show the hill, but did clearly show other locations. Members of an expedition to the site reported later that their flashlights stopped working at the same time. They checked the flashlights upon returning home, and discovered burned wires.
the middle of the object was a red sphere. Another group of eyewitnesses included workers from the Bor quarry. They observed an object at 11:00pm. A giant cylindrical object was flying straight at the quarry. Its size was like that of a five-story building, its length around 200 or 300 hundred meters. The front part of the object was lit up, like burning metal. The workers were afraid that the object would crash on them.
Eight days after the UFO crash at Hill 611, on February 8, 1986, at 8:30pm., two yellowish spheres flew from the north, in a southward direction. Reaching the site of the crash, they circled it four times, then turned back to the north and flew away. Then on November 28, 1987 (Saturday night, 11:24pm.), 32 flying objects appeared from nowhere. There were hundreds of witnesses, including the military and civilians. The objects flew over 12 different settlements, and 13 of them flew to Dalnegorsk and the site. Three of the UFOs hovered over the settlement, and five of them illuminated the nearby mountain. The objects moved noiselessly at an altitude between 150 to 800 meters. None of the eyewitnesses actually thought they were UFOs. Those who observed the objects assumed they were aircraft involved in some disaster, or falling meteorites. As the objects flew over houses, they created interference (television, telegraph functions).
One of the managers of the quarry observed an object at 11:30pm. The object was slowly moving at an altitude of 300 meters. It was huge and cigarshaped. The manager, whose last name was Levakov, stated that he was well acquainted with aerodynamics, knew theory and practice of flight, but never knew that a body could fly noiselessly without any wings or engines. Another eyewitness, a kindergarten teacher, saw something else. It was a bright, blinding sphere at an altitude of a nine-story building. It moved noiselessly. In front of the sphere Ms. Markina observed a dark, metalliclooking elongated object of about 10 to 12 meters long. It hovered over a school. There the object emitted a ray (its diameter about half a meter). The colour of the ray was violet-bluish. The ground below illuminated, but there were no shadows from objects below. Then the object in the sky approached a mountain and hovered over it. It illuminated the mountain, emitting a reddish projector-like light as if searching for something, and then departed, flying over the mountain.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs officers who were present, testified later that they observed the objects from a street at 23:30 (precise time). They saw a fiery object flying in from the direction of No rocket launches took place at any Gorely settlement. In front of the fiery of the Soviet cosmodromes either on “flame” was a lusterless sphere, and in January 29, 1986, or November 28, 1987.

Interior Ministry troops, described the object he observed as a flame with a lusterless sphere in the front and a reddish ball in the rear. And the workers from the Bor Quarry-Bistryancev, Anokhin, Grigoriyev-reported a giant cylindrical object at an altitude of 300 meters. Its fore-part was illuminatedlike melting metal. There are many other witness accounts in the Dvuzhilni report. To remind our readers, the area of the crash is not that far away from the Tunguska Phenomenon site.
Mesh-like fragment found at the site
Dr. Dvuzhilni’s conclusion was that it was a malfunctioning alien space probe that crashed into the Hill 611. Another hypothesis has been that the object managed to ascend and escape (almost in one piece) in a north-easterly direction and probably crashed in the dense taiga (forest). There are opposing opinions. V. Psalomschikov, an expert on aircraft crashes and a well-known journalist, stated that the object was manufactured in the USSR, the technology to produce it dating back to the 1970s, and that he has similar ultrathin filaments in his possession. However, a Soviet probe would self-destruct immediately, whereas the object reportedly did try to ascend several times. Actually, Psalomschikov believes the crashed object was a Soviet-built remotely piloted intelligence vehicle. A Russian ufologist and scientist, Gennady Belimov, presented information in 1993 that a Soviet military probe had crashed at the Hill 611. His proof was based on similar crashes of highly classified Soviet probes, and he concludes that ufologists misinterpreted the probe to be a UFO crashed in the Far East. As for the metal collected at the site, Belimov believes it was extracted from the Kholodnensky deposit in the Northern Baikal region. A new generation of Russian UFO researchers have reached the conclusion that the probe was an aerostatics reconnaissance vehicle possibly equipped to take infrared photographs. The speed of the probe was estimated to be approximately 54 kilometers per hour, which would negate
ufO encounter
Dr. Dvuzhilni’s data. But even among them there is no consistent belief as to the origin of the probe. Vladimir Smoly, for example, does not believe there was a thermite self-destruction device aboard the probe. The self-destruction would be expected to be immediate, unlike what had happened at Height 611 to the crashed object. Was this a NATO probe? V. Psalomschikov mentioned that previously NATO reconnaissance balloons did contain trotyl (TNT) selfdestruction devices. One such apparatus fell on a house in the USSR and “self-destroyed” it; fortunately, there was no one inside the dwelling at the time. The Soviets raised hell, the scandal was heard even in the UN, and since that time NATO probes contained only thermite self-destruction devices. Smoly believes the object was an aerostatics apparatus created for entertainment purposes. However, M. Gershtein indicated that the object had a clearly defined trail, and could not have been a balloon moving at the speed of the wind carrying it. Would the military later stage fake “UFO” flights to confuse and mislead ufologists, and the Western intelligence services? The objects observed on November 28, 1987 consisted of different shapes: cigar-like, cylindrical, and spherical. Their flight was noiseless, smooth, and at various altitudes. Actually, not one of the eyewitnesses (including the police) mistook them for UFOs. The impression was that they observed some aircraft, or falling meteorites. While in flight, the objects affected power lines throughout the area. Lieutenant Zhivayev, of the
Something else, heretofore unknown in the West, took place in the region, that could shed some light on both incidents. Alexander Rempel published his report in Priroda newspaper (Vladivostok) in July of 1991. A fiery object was observed over the Khabarovsk city on August 24, 1978, at night. It was about a meter and a half in diameter. At one point in its flight, it emitted a hissing (or wheezing) sound, like a jet engine does. The area around it became illuminated, like daylight. The object descended slowly, and lit up brightly. The soil, albeit full of water, burned up. Coal-like pieces were found in the area, they had holes and glass-like structures. For ten years thereafter the soil remained unchanged, and nothing grew at the site of the explosion. The eyewitnesses reported that a dark object flew away just before the explosion. It was not found. Ten years later Rempel and his colleagues received numerous reports about an anomalous zone near Khabarovsk. The few explorers who have returned from the area confirmed that the object fell there, and that fantastic things have been observed there. Yet at the time Rempel could not confirm their reports because the military had sealed the area off. But his group was able to research the area of the Dalnegorsk Object alleged fall after it flew off the Hill 611. They found out about unusual animal mutations. Russian newspaper Komsomol’skaya Pravda in its December 1, 2000 issue published an article about the Dalnegorsk case (NLO svili v Primorje gnezdo). Most interesting was Andrey Pavlov’s (the author of the newspaper article) reference to the fact that in the early 1990s Russian generals from the anti-aircraft forces became concerned about the UFO activity in the area, and contacted local UFO researchers. An exchange of information ensued. It is
9
newsworthy when a major Russian newspaper mentions such fact (the author actually quoted Dr. Dvuzhilni, the chief investigator of the Height 611 UFO crash). According to Alexander Rempel (NLO Magazine, 1999) very few Russian ufologists recall the crash, or pay attention to it. Alexander Rempel informed participants of the UFOMIND Russian UFO Forum that fragments of the crashed object have been examined in Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, and Munich, Liege and other places. In 2000, four Japanese and Korean expeditions examined Hill 611. Ufologists from Korea and Japan have made offers to purchase the “balls”. The current price for one gram of any fragment is $500.00, and the price has been going up.There are offers of $1,500 per gram, but the demand exceeds the supply. Rempel is aware that there have been numerous conclusions of a number of institutes and laboratories in Russia and abroad, and yet all of them differ from each other. There is no final conclusion that the object was made on Earth, but at the same time, there is no definite conclusion that the object was of extraterrestrial origin. Some peculiarities of the object still cannot be explained. Since 2000 there has not been anything anomalous in
the area. But Russians ufologists show little or no interest in the famous case, states Rempel, except for those in Vladivostok. Two exhibits of the Height 611 incident have been made and are active; one is in the Dalnegorsk museum, and the other in the UFO Museum in Vladivostok. There are hundreds of witnesses, and dozens of the actual eyewitnesses, and many drawings of the incident, but there are no photographs. Numerous “kontaktyori” (those who claim to be in contact with extraterrestrial civilizations) had made predictions that never came true, claimed to be in contact with alien civilizations, wrote books and made paintings of the event. They even claimed that a UFO would land at the Dalnegorsk stadium. This prediction attracted attention of a great number of Russians; thousands of them arrived in Dalnegorsk, but nothing happened. Some of those who had arrived to meet the aliens still remain in the Dalnegorsk mental asylum. The RUFORS Round Table members (Anatoly Kutovoy and others), as well as Vladimir Smoly’s UFO Forum participants, have discussed the case, and actively exchanged scientific information about it. As for the Russian media, it has paid some attention to the crash recently, too. We must mention another interpretation of the Dalnegorsk crash.
Valery Dvuzhilny
It was published in Soviet newspaper Ribak Primorya (Issue 14, 1991). The author of the article about the Dalnegorsk Object was Y. Vasilyev. He states several interesting points. According to him, V. Dvuzhilni and a group of his students arrived to the site of the crash. They searched the area three times, quite thoroughly, and found tiny metallic drops. All required measurements were taken, and photographs taken. Then they initiated physical and chemical analyses of the findings. The melting temperature of the metal was 390 degrees. The silvery metal was very soft; it was easy to break with a pair of tweezers. On February 8, 1986, V. Dvuzhilni and V. Berliozov, a geologist (who had studied the Sikhote-Alin’ meteorite) again ascended the hill. The geologist confirmed that the crashed body was of a cosmic origin, and the traces affirmed this. Its luminescence was similar to that of usual meteorites. Five years later, V. Dvuzhilini came up with further details (“fantastic details”, according to Y. Vasilyev). Then the author comes up with his own hypothesis. On January 28, 1986, American shuttle Challenger exploded in the sky. The force of the explosion was such that the fragments were thrown all over the Atlantic. It is possible that one of the fragments, flying from the southwest, landed in Dalnegorsk the next day.

There seems to be a consensus of opinion that the Hill 611 crash may well have a conventional explanation, but exactly what remains to be seen. It does have its parallels in the West, the Roswell case being one of them, but there are others. Irrespective of this, it is a fascinating case, which is sure to divulge more information and more theories in the years to come.

the apparitions of FATIMA–
close encounters of an ET kind?
Sheryl Gottschall
Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary have appeared to the Roman Catholic faithful for centuries. However, Ufologists do not necessarily accept these reports as Divine manifestations, rather they consider that people may have witnessed extraterrestrial visitations. While religious believers will argue the point, they are hard pressed to discount the many similarities between what are regarded as Divine apparition reports and modern day UFO encounters. One such event is the Fatima incident that took place in Portugal in 1917. Three children named Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta had a close encounter with a being they thought to be the Virgin Mary. The being revealed herself to Lucia, the principal seer who communicated with the “Lady of Fatima’, telling Lucia to continue to go to the same place for six consecutive months on the 13th of each month. The children followed their instructions faithfully returning to the site of the initial contact at a place called the Cova da Iria (“Irene’s Cove”) about one mile from the town of Fatima. Communications continued with the three children in the presence of onlookers, whose numbers increased greatly as news spread. The actual visions of the being could only be seen by the three children, so knowledge of them is limited to their testimony. However, during the revelations there occurred related phenomena that were also witnessed by large numbers of people. These phenomena included the appearance of a glowing globe-shaped vehicle, a shower of rose petals from the sky that vanished upon touching the ground, the sun “dancing’ in the sky, anomalous environmental effects and spontaneous healings.
ufO encounter
At the time of the apparitions they were interpreted from a religious perspective steeped heavily in the local Catholic tradition, so it was natural enough that these visions of a beautiful female would be interpreted as the Virgin Mary. However, nearly a century later, there now exists a large collection of literature from all around the world that can be used to cross-match certain characteristics of apparitions of Mary that clearly show these characteristics more closely resemble manifestations of UFO reports and close encounters with their occupants. The Being Who Descended From the Sky When Jacinta burst through the door of her home exclaiming to her mother that she had seen “Our Lady’ at Cova da Iria, her mother didn’t know what to make of it. As word spread Lucia’s mother, whose daughter accompanied Jacinta at the time of the vision, asked her daughter what she had seen. Contrary to Jacinta’s report Lucia was not convinced that it was a vision of the Virgin Mary, but rather
“a small, pretty lady whose dress was completely white’. When asked where she was from the woman had pointed to the sky saying she was “from there’. The apparition had not identified herself but promised to do so six months later on October 13. In 1941, after many years had passed, Lucia offered a new version of this initial encounter with the being. The description this time would be much more vivid. “We saw a lady over an oak tree, dressed all in white, more brilliant than the Sun, sparkling with a light more clear and intense than a crystal glass full of water shot through by the most ardent rays of the Sun… We were so close that we were within the light that enclosed her...’ (1) Many times the children stated they were blinded by the light emanating from the being and from time to time had to rub their eyes. The children all agreed that the being ‘never smiled nor looked sad, but was always serious.’ Francisco also noticed she never moved her mouth when she spoke. He also stated ‘she did not walk. She did not move her feet.’ He described how she glided in the
11
direction of a point in the sky, disappearing a little at a time as if fading. Lucia also explained “First her head, then her body and the last thing I saw was her feet.’ Other descriptions by the children were that the being appeared to be between 12 and 15 years old, measured approximately 1.10 metres tall, had black eyes, carried a strand of beads resembling a rosary, wore some type of hoop earrings at her neck and carried a luminous ball at waist level. She spoke “without moving her lips and only moved her hands once in a while’. Divine Manifestation or Extraterrestrial Vehicles One of the curious reports accompanying the visions was when the being departed the sound of humming, or rockets, was heard by others. There were also reports of clouds left in the wake of the being’s departure. One woman reported “when Our Lady withdrew from the tree, it was like a distant gust from a rocket when it lifts off.’ Another report stated “at the end, a small white cloud became visible…at the same time the far off boom of thunder could be heard.’ This report was corroborated by a letter found in the official archives that states when Lucia had indicated the being was leaving, “I heard a roaring in the air that seemed like the beginning of thunder’. Parallels In Ufology Although UFOs are often reported as silently gliding through the sky they can also be accompanied by swishing sounds thought to be caused by air displacement. Some reports also include low rumbling like a slow roll of thunder. In subsequent months to the initial encounters at Fatima, it was the flash of lightning that announced the arrival of the being. This has also been reported in connection to UFO sightings where a flash lights up the surrounding area “turning night into day’. During the Fatima encounters, when the children would kneel in the middle of the field and speak to the being, others could hear “a buzzing that seemed to be that of a bee’. One witness stated “I heard a sound, a din, such as a great fly makes inside an empty water pot’. Similarly, this “buzzing’ has also been heard by UFO witnesses and
12
recorded by researchers while standing in crop circles. In Tasmania in 1974 a woman and her two children were driving home when she noticed static over the car radio. A bright light lit up the sky in front of the car and the engine stalled, the headlights, radio, and heater also failing. After ten seconds a “vibrating ” noise surrounded the car, and the three felt painful electric shocks on their bodies. After another minute the car filled with a choking smell, so the group left the car and walked to the nearest home. Upon returning to the car an hour later, nothing was found amiss except that the hood was warm. The car continued to function normally, but the woman had swollen arms and fingers and a numb right side of the face. (2) The Rain Of Flowers During the Fatima encounters witnesses observed another phenomenon referred to as the ‘Rain of Flowers’. One witness stated, ‘something like little flakes of snow or balls of cotton fell on the branches… after they were unfastened from the heights and fell upon the oak tree.’ Another witness reported, “white balls had fallen from the sky, which, when I went to catch them, turned to nothing.’ Again we see parallels in Ufology where this phenomenon is referred to as “Angel Hair’. The most famous case occurred in France in 1952 where a cottony cloud of strange shape was seen floating against the sky. Above it, a narrow cylinder inclined at a 45 degree angle was slowly moving in a straight line. The object was whitish and a plume of white smoke was escaping from its upper end. Some distance in front of
the cylinder about 30 objects were following the same trajectory. All these strange objects left an abundant trail behind them which slowly fell to the ground. For several hours clumps of it hung in the trees, on telephone wires and on the roofs of houses. (3) The Miracle of the Sun By October 13 1917, the Fatima apparitions no longer merely attracted believers, the superstitious or the sick. Word of the apparitions had spread and over 50,000 people gathered at Cova da Iria to bear witness to the great miracle promised by the being on that day. Among them were journalists, university professors, farmers and housewives, standing side by side in the torrential rain waiting for the being to appear. Soon a cloud appeared and settled above the small oak tree that had become the epicentre of the encounters. Minutes later the rain ceased, the clouds disappeared and the sun gleamed in the sky. One witness reported, ‘the thunder reverberated close by, the air grew thicker with a sound that called to mind the buzzing of bees. Suddenly, the clouds began to move in the sky, and from those clouds a light emerged… The clouds appeared to be descending and bringing in their bulges peculiar flashes of coloured lights that appeared to ricochet from one cloud to another. From the side of the landscape, there emerged a massive, darker cloud formation. Within the clouds, there was something like a fireworks show.’ (4) Then emerged an object which had varieties of descriptions including; a disk with a distinct and lovely border, luminous and lucent; a dull silver disk
ufO encounter
but more luminous than the Moon; a polished wedge as if it had been cut from the nacre of a conch shell; a disk of polished glass; a metallic disk as if of silver; a disk of steamed-up crystal that had been illuminated from behind, a disk of opaque glass. This object then performed a series of manoeuvres for the thousands of spectators watching it, at times coming close to the ground and emitting a very intense heat. This heat was so intense that the wet clothes of the bedraggled onlookers dried off. One witness stated ‘I was completely soaked by the rain, which totally drenched my suit… Without knowing how, I found myself immediately afterwards with my clothing perfectly dry’. Another stated “the Sun spun around upon itself and all who found themselves wet appeared dry, as I was one of them’. Identical accounts of very intense heat are also associated with reports
of total evaporation on a rainy day when trees, shrubs and the ground itself were found to be completely dry soon after a UFO had stationed itself over a location. Spontaneous Healing When the silver disk neared the large crowd other ‘miracles’ took place. Some found themselves healed immediately, others when they arrived home or days after the event. One woman reported ‘I noticed that since two days ago I felt no pain in my arm that I have always had as the result of malaria. The doctor had declared… it would not heal and I should just resign myself to living with it. The doctor saw me again… He knew nothing of my trip to Fatima and, tremendously spooked, told me that he found nothing wrong with me.’ Another woman stated that after attending the ‘“miracle’ she was ill with fever and began to perspire the
following day and that as a result she had none of the symptoms of malaria that had annoyed her constantly. Other healings included the disappearance of a tumour, recovery from tuberculosis and many other conditions that had previously been pronounced incurable. Again, spontaneous healings have been reported in conjunction with reports of close encounters with ETs. Sometimes witnesses are aware of these beings aiding their healing processes while at other times the disappearance of an illness is met with complete surprise. Some UFO researchers believe that the figure of the Virgin Mary seen during apparitions may actually be a holographic projection by extraterrestrial intelligences and these projections may be accompanied and enhanced by some kind of mass hypnosis. Others suggest that apparition phenomenon may be a fantastic poltergeist, manifestations of the collective unconscious of humanity, or interactions by beings from other dimensions. Whether they are extraterrestrial or extra-human terrestrials, there are convincing arguments for UFO researchers and religious scholars alike to re-examine the evidence of the enduring mystery of Fatima. RUSSIAN PRESIDENT ASK ED ASKED TO INVESTIGATE ALIEN CLAIMS Richard Galpin, BBC News, Moscow http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/ 8662822.stm
EU CALL FOR 'XFILES' ARCHIVE OF UFO SIGHTINGS http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ newstopics/howaboutthat/ufo/7875617/ EU-call-for-X-Files-archive-of-UFOsightings.html
A Russian MP has asked President Dmitry Medvedev to investigate claims by a regional president that he has met aliens on board a spaceship. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the leader of the southern region of Kalmykia, made his claim in a television interview.
Mario Borghezio, an Italian member of the European Parliament, said that the EU needed its own "X Files" archive where anyone could see information on UFOs - including data gathered by the military. Mr Borghezio said all European governments should go public and stop what he called a "systematic cover-up."
MP Andre Lebedev is not just asking whether Mr Ilyumzhinov is fit to govern. He is also concerned that, if he was abducted, he may have revealed details about his job and state secrets. The MP has written a letter to Mr Medvedev raising a list of his concerns.
Opening the files is not unprecedented. Last year, Britain published 4,000 pages online on 800 alleged encounters with aliens during the 1980s and 1990s. And over the past three years the Ministry of Defence has been gradually releasing previously secret UFO papers after facing Freedom of Information demands.
In his letter he says that - assuming the whole thing was not just a bad joke - it was an historic event and should have been reported to the Kremlin. He also asks if there are official guidelines for what government officials should do if contacted by aliens, especially if those officials have access to state secrets. Mr Ilyumzhinov said in an interview on primetime television that he had been taken on board an alien spaceship which had come to planet Earth to take samples - and claims to have several witnesses. He has been president of Kalmykia, a small Buddhist region of Russia which lies on the shores of the Caspian Sea, for 17 years. The millionaire former businessman has a reputation as an eccentric character. As president of the World Chess Federation, he has spent tens of millions of dollars turning the impoverished republic into a mecca for chess players - building an entire village to host international tournaments.
14
Mr Borghezio also said it was essential to have a scientific centre to research unidentified flying objects. Its investigations could have "major scientific and technological spin-offs," he said. "I think that, under the principle of transparency, the EU member states have a duty to make public and available to all scientific data on UFOs which today are partially or wholly withheld," he said. He is seeking the support of other lawmakers from the 736-member assembly for a statement calling on governments to act. So far, though, he's collected only 18 signatures. MAN HIT BY SIX METEORITES IS BEING 'T ARGETED 'TARGETED BY ALIENS' http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/835482man-hit-by-six-meteorites-is-beingtargeted-by-aliens
A Bosnian man who claims he is being targeted by extraterrestrials after a series of meteorite strikes on his house has now been hit by a sixth space rock in the space of a few years.
Radivoje Lajic first came to international attention in 2008, shortly after the fifth meteorite had crashed into the roof of his house in the northern village of Gornji Lajici. And now, within the past month, another rock has hit the roof of his house, in defiance of all the odds making it six strikes since the plague of meteorites began in 2007.
Experts at Belgrade University have confirmed that all the falling rocks he has handed over were meteorites. They are now trying to work out what exactly it is about his house that particularly attracts them. The strikes always happen when it is raining heavily, he says, never when there are clear skies. Lajic has his own explanation, of course. After the fifth rock struck his house, he said: 'I am obviously being targeted by extraterrestrials. I don't know what I have done to annoy them but there is no other explanation that makes sense. The chance of being hit by a meteorite is so small that getting hit six times has to be deliberate.' 50-year-old Lajic has had a steel girder reinforced roof put on the house to protect it from the alien bombardment which he funded by selling one of the meteorites to a university in the Netherlands. After leaving Earth's surface 33 years ago, the Voyager 2 spacecraft may have been hijacked by aliens, it has been claimed.

Scientists had installed a 12-inch disk containing music and greetings in 55 languages in case intelligent extraterrestrial life ever found it, but the spacecraft is sending signals in an unknown format. "It seems almost as if someone had reprogrammed or hijacked the probe - thus perhaps we do not yet know the whole truth," The Daily Telegraph quoted alien expert Hartwig Hausdorf as saying. The spacecraft late last month began sending science data 8.6 billion miles to Earth in a changed format that mission managers could not decode. Engineers are working to solve the data transmissions and have since instructed Voyager 2 to only transmit data on its own health and status while they work on the problem. Launched in 1977, Voyager 2 and its twin, Voyager 1, explored the giant planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune and kept on going. Nearly 33 years later, they are the most distant human-made objects. Voyager 1 is 10.5 billion miles from Earth and in about five years is expected to pass through the heliosphere, a bubble the sun creates around the solar system, and enter interstellar space. RESEARCHERS UNCOVER EVIDENCE OF WATER INSIDE THE MOON http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/ 2010-07/uota-urd072010.php
Researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, are once again turning what scientists thought they knew about the moon on its head. Last fall, researchers, including Larry Taylor, a distinguished professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, discovered "lunar dew" on the moon's surface -- absorbed "water" in the uppermost layers of lunar soil. This discovery of water debunked beliefs held since the return of the first Apollo rocks that the moon was bone-dry. Now, scientists, including Taylor and Yang Liu, research assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, have discovered that water on the moon is more widespread -- on the outside and inside of the moon -- with some similarities to water in volcanic systems on Earth. Unlike lunar dew which is believed to come from an outside source such as solar wind which brings hydrogen into contact with the Moon's oxygen, the water discovered by Taylor and Liu is
ufO encounter
internal, arising from an entirely different origin. How it got there is not yet known. The water may have been added by impacting comets, which contain ice, during or after the formation of the moon and Earth. The existence of volcanoes on the moon more than 4 billion years ago gave the researchers a clue that water might exist inside the body, since the dynamics of volcanoes on Earth are mostly driven by water. Therefore, the scientists made their novel discovery by examining a lunar basalt brought back from the 1971 Apollo 14 mission. Using secondary ion mass spectrometry at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., scientists determined volatile elements in a calcium phosphate mineral are very similar in the same mineral found on Earth. The scientists said this provides "robust evidence for the presence of water in the interior of the moon from where some lunar rocks were derived. This demonstrates a closer chemical and geologic relationship between the Earth and moon than previously known. We must now re-evaluate the volatile inventories of the moon, relative to the Earth." The finding of volatiles on the moon has deep implications for how it, and the Earth, formed. It is generally believed that the moon was created when the early Earth was hit by a Mars-sized protoplanet called Theia, melting and vaporizing itself and a large chunk of the Earth. The cloud of particles created by the impact later congealed to form the moon, which supposedly was devoid of highly volatile elements such as hydrogen and chlorine. However, the researchers' discovery of these volatiles challenges this theory. [I don’t know who to believe anymore... see below - Ed] LUNAR ROCKS YIELD NO WATER Stuart Gary, http://www.abc.net.au/science/ articles/2010/08/06/2975747.htm
A new study of rock samples collected during the Apollo missions has concluded the Moon is almost bone dry. The research published in Science Express means the only water on the Moon was most likely deposited by comet or asteroid impact. The finding may also have implications for theories regarding the origins of water on Earth. To reach their conclusion a team of scientists led by Dr Zachary Sharp from the University of New Mexico looked at chlorine isotopes in lunar volcanic rocks.
Chlorine is hydrophilic attracted to water making it an extremely sensitive indicator of hydrogen levels. If the Moon contained a similar amount of water as the Earth, than the ratio of chlorine isotopes in the rocks would also be similar to those found on here. Instead, the researchers found the range of chlorine isotopes contained in the lunar samples to be 25 times greater than what is found in rocks and minerals from Earth and from meteorites. Sharp and colleagues conclude the interior of the Moon is anhydrous - contains no water.
Scientists still believe the discovery of water molecules at the bottom of craters in the Moon's polar regions indicate an abundant supply of water in these regions, which could be used by future lunar colonies for drinking, oxygen and rocket fuel production. Dr Trevor Ireland from the Australian National University in Canberra says the findings confirm the Moon is as dry as previously thought. US President Barack Obama may have to reconsider his decision to abandon plans to return to the Moon - it seems our closest galactic neighbour is still throwing up surprises. Last year, NASA'a Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) dipped into a low orbit around the Moon and almost immediately returned results. Early in May, it found lost Soviet rover Lunokhod 1, which wandered off
15
course 40 years and stopped sending signals back to Earth. Later that month, it sent back an amazing image of a three-storey high boulder which had rolled across the Moon's surface before toppling into a crater. Now it may have confirmed a theory that scientists had held about the Moon since the 1960s - its surface may hide a vast network of tunnels. If they exist, such tunnels could offer the kind of shelter that would allow humans to live on the Moon. "They could be entrances to a geologic wonderland," lead researcher Mark Robinson of Arizona State University said.
In December last year, Japanese orbiter Kaguya spotted an enormous pit in the middle of one of the Marius Hills rilles. It was about 70m wide and dropped more than 90m to its floor. The LRO recently returned clearer images of the pit which now have scientists believing it may be a "skylight" in a buried lava tube. Not surprisingly, alien watchers have jumped on the discovery, claiming it's the perfect lair for extraterrestrial life, but Mr Robinson said if the tunnels existed, they could have a practical use for humans. "The tunnels offer a perfect radiation shield and a very benign thermal environment," he said. "Once you get down to two metres under the surface of the moon, the temperature remains fairly constant, probably around -30 to -40 degrees C." DRUIDS HIRED TO CLEAN ROADS Chris Capps, 19 May 2010 http://www.unexplainable.net/SimplyUnexplainable/Druids-Hired-to-CleanRoads-with-Incredible-Effectiveness.shtml
Perhaps one of the most incredible stories of this week comes from one of the most unlikely sources. When one thinks of the Austrian department of Highways, one doesn't immediately think to the realm of the magical and scientific evidence of magic
16
intervening in life or death situations, but in a development that must be seen to be believed, there has recently been a strange union between the Department of Highways in Austria and the old practitioners of the magical arts. Druids, dressed in robes and armed with dousing rods have been spotted walking along Austria's motorways, sparking many to reason that it may be a seasonal ritual, but in reality these are not simply solitary practitioners but rather employees of the Austrian Motorway Authority ASFINAG. ASFINAG is the country's authority and concessioner of traffic control in Austria, utilizing any means necessary to make travel safer and more accommodating for motorists in the country. Often the utilization of "any means necessary" can lead them in strange directions. Such is the case with the highly successful team of druids the company has hired to journey through the land with dousing rods, searching for any sign of 'negative energy' in accident prone areas and smooth it out to ensure energetic harmony on the road systems. And if it sounds hard to believe, it's even more incredible that the team of druids
have been working with a high level of success. One difficult area in particular in Austria had accidents every other week. As the druids visited this intersection, they noted that it had a considerable amount of negative energy that was only compounding with each successive car crash. They smoothed out the "dark energy" and restored its "terrestrial radiation." The change was almost miraculous. Since the druids performed their rituals, there have been no crashes at this particular intersection. Was it merely a coincidence? The Royal Navy may hold records about possible sea monsters but it does not collect them centrally, it has revealed. Sailors can note unusual sightings on the ocean waves in their ship's logs, the Navy said. But they are not required to do so and none of the information is assembled in a central archive devoted to sea monsters. Any sightings of strange marine animals reported to the Navy by the public are passed on to the UK Hydrographic Office, which provides charts and other navigational services for mariners. Details of the Navy's policy on giant creatures of the deep emerged in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. A marine biologist

inquired whether the Ministry of Defence held records about ''abnormally large or dangerous sea monsters hundreds of metres under the sea'' that had not been revealed to the public. In reply an official wrote: ''The RN (Royal Navy), and MoD in general, does not maintain any form of central repository of information purely devoted to sea monsters. Personnel might be inclined to record unusual sightings in ship's logs but there is, as far as we know, no actual requirement for them to do so, and it would be beyond the resource constraints of an FOI request to check every line of every RN log book for any such references since 2005. However, the RN does invite people to report sightings of marine mammals, and it's possible this could include unusual sightings. These are forwarded to the UK Hydrographic Office at Taunton.'' The MoD's stance on sea monsters contrasts with the policy on UFOs it maintained for more than 50 years. Thousands of reports of strange sights in the skies were recorded by the military's UFO investigation unit until it was shut down on December 1 last year. The National Archives in Kew, west London, contain several historic Royal Navy files about strange sightings on the oceans, he said. These include an 1830 report sent to the Admiralty in London by the captain of the ship Rob Roy about a ''great thundering big sea snake'' measuring about 129ft long seen by his crew in the waters near the remote island of St Helena in the South Atlantic. Another file records how Commander George Harrington, captain of the Castilian, saw ''a monster of extraordinary length'' rear its head out of the sea, again near St Helena, in 1857. Dr Clarke, a lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, said: ''At this time they were exploring areas of the world where they thought there may well have been such creatures living. I have looked at some of the ship's logs in the National Archives, and there are instructions about what people should record. Any unusual observations of any kind should be recorded in the ship's log.''

He said the MoD would argue that it was only funded for defence and not to investigate strange phenomena. ''They should be recording those kind of things, but I don't think anybody is recording them,'' he said. ''It's short-sightedness but that's bureaucracy.'' EXCESSIVE METHANE FOUND ON MARS - CAUSED BY LIFE? http://www.sciencenews.net.au/excessivemethane-found-on-mars-caused-by-life-orgeological-processes/
"Methane is quickly destroyed in the Martian atmosphere in a variety of ways, so our discovery of substantial plumes of methane in the northern hemisphere of Mars in 2003 indicates some ongoing process is releasing the gas," said Dr. Michael Mumma of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. "At northern mid-summer, methane is released at a rate comparable to that of the massive hydrocarbon seep at Coal Oil Point in Santa Barbara, Calif.""
Living organisms produce methane in abundance, which is why it's an interesting marker for the potential for life on Mars. Coupled with the discovery that there are glaciers and water on Mars, and this whole racket starts to sound a lot more interesting... Methane is also caused by certain geological processes, though. NASA elaborates: "On Earth, the conversion of iron oxide (rust) into the serpentine group of minerals creates methane, and on Mars this process could proceed using water, carbon dioxide, and the planet's internal heat. Although we don't have evidence on Mars of active volcanoes today, ancient methane trapped in ice "cages" called clathrates might now be released." It'd be disappointing to go all the way to Mars to find life, only to discover than it's just about the iron oxide - but geologists are still excited, as it means that the geological party is still happening on Mars.
SUITS FOR MARS MISSION TESTED IN ALPS http:// timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/ science/Suits-for-Mars-mission-tested-inAlps/articleshow/6263563.cms
Planetary scientists are testing out suits for the first manned missions to Mars - by boldly going to the snowcapped Alps. This is because scientists believe that conditions under Austria's Kaunertaler Glacier are ideal for replicating conditions that astronauts would be facing on the Red Planet, where temperatures can plunge to 113°C, the Sun reported. "It's perfect. The permafrost conditions there closely resemble the climate on Mars," Gernot Groemer who has designed the 27kg space suit, said. The suits need to be significantly lighter and more flexible than the iconic Apollo spacesuits. The glacier, five hours drive from the Austrian capital Vienna, is best known as a ski resort but if the space-suit trials are successful could be remembered as one of the first steps on the long road to Mars. In fact, Russia last year announced its plans to build a nuclearpowered spacecraft for a manned mission to Mars. Anatoly Perminov, head of the Russian Federal Space Agency, told a government commission that the plan was crucial if Russia wanted to maintain a competitive edge in the space race, according to Russian media reports. THE SECRET CODE IN U .S. CYBER U.S. COMMAND'S L OGO LOGO John Cook, 8 July 2010 http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/ yahoocanada/100708/canada/ the_secret_code_in_u_s__cyber_command_s_logo
The newly formed U.S. Cyber Command is supposed to centralize and focus the military's ability to wage war over the Internet, but so far it's basically famous for brainteasers. The command's fancy logo contains a super-secret code in its inner gold ring: 9ec4c12949a4f31474f299058ce2b22a. Trouble is, no one knows for sure yet precisely what the 32-character code means. Or at least no one at Cyber Command appears to know. Lt. Cmdr. Steve Curry, a spokesman, says "it's definitely the mission statement" of Cyber Command. "What part of the mission statement: That's what I'm

waiting to find out on from the people who designed it." Indeed, the notes accompanying the logo i.e., explanations of what the symbols mean - say it contains a "computer code that ties the command back to the early days of computer networking; USCYBERCOM's mission statement is encrypted within this code." Curry suspects that the designers used a cryptographic algorithm called an MD5 hash to transform the mission statement into the string of characters, but he doesn't know whether they took choice bits or the whole statement, which reads:
these two factors aren't fully explaining the extraordinary contraction which, though unlikely to affect the weather, can affect the movement of satellites, researchers said. "This is the biggest contraction of the thermosphere in at least 43 years," John Emmert of the Naval Research Lab was quoted as saying in NASA news report. "We cannot explain the abnormally low densities, which are about 30% lower than from previous contractions," Emmert was quoted by CNN.com as saying. The thermosphere lies close to where the atmosphere ends. The contraction of can affect the drag on satellites and space junk orbiting at those levels. OZ LASER SYSTEM TO TRACK SP ACE SPACE JUNK http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/ science/Oz-laser-system-to-track-spacejunk/articleshow/6193480.cmsDel.icio.us
An Australian company said it had developed a laser tracking system that will stop chunks of space debris colliding with spacecraft and satellites in the Earth's orbit.
USCYBERCOM plans, coordinates, integrates, synchronizes, and conducts activities to: direct the operations and defense of specified Department of Defense information networks and; prepare to, and when directed, conduct full-spectrum military cyberspace operations in order to enable actions in all domains, ensure US/Allied freedom of action in cyberspace and deny the same to our adversaries. ATMOSPHERE'S MASSIVE SHRINKAGE BAFFLES EXPERTS http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/ science/Atmospheres-massive-shrinkagebaffles-
Researchers are baffled by the recent collapse of the upper layer of Earth's atmosphere. The unexpectedly large contraction of the thermosphere, which blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, has left scientists scratching their heads, NASA announced. The thermosphere expands and contracts regularly due to the Sun's activities. As carbon dioxide increases, it has a cooling effect at such high altitudes, which also contributes to the contraction, CNN reported on. But even

Electric Optic Systems said lasers fired from ground would locate and track debris as small as 10 centimetres across, protecting astronauts and satellites. "We can track them to very high precision so that we can predict whether there are going to be collisions with other objects or not," Craig Smith, the company's CEO, said. Smith said the technology improved upon existing radar systems because it could detect tiny objects, left behind by disused rockets and satellites, which can devastate hardware because they are travelling at ultra-high speeds. He said there were an estimated 200,000 objects measuring less than one centimetre floating in orbit, with another 500,000 of a centimetre or larger. "It ranges from bussize bits of rocket bodies all the way down to a little half-a-millimetre fleck of paint," Smith said. "The trouble is that they're all travelling at about 30,000 kms an hour. So unless you're in the same orbit you have hyper-velocity impacts, which can be devastating to a satellite."
NEIL ARMSTRONG'S SECRET
On July 20, 1969, as commander of the Apollo 11 lunar Module, Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon. His first words after stepping on the moon, 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,' were televised to Earth and heard by millions. But just before he reentered the lander, he made the enigmatic remark "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky". Many people at NASA though it was a casual remark concerning a rival Soviet cosmonaut. However, upon checking, there was no Gorsky in either the Russian or American space programs. Over the years many people questioned Armstrong as to what the 'good luck, Mr. Gorsky statement meant, but Armstrong always just smiled. On July 5, 1995, in Tampa Bay , Florida , while answering questions following a speech, a reporter brought up the 26- year-old question to Armstrong. This time he Finally responded. Mr. Gorsky had died, so Neil Armstrong felt he could now answer the question. In 1938, when he was a kid in a small mid-west town , he was playing baseball with a friend in the backyard. His friend hit the ball, which landed in his neighbour's yard by their bedroom window. His neighbours were Mr. and Mrs. Gorsky. As he leaned down to pick up the ball, young Armstrong heard Mrs. Gorsky shouting at Mr. Gorsky. "Sex! You want sex?! You'll get sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!"
Electric Optic Systems said it had developed the technology at Canberra's Mount Stromlo Observatory, thanks to $3.5 million grant from the Australian government. Smith said the system would work best with a network of tracking stations placed at strategic points around the globe.
