Davina and the Vagabonds has been creating a stir with their shows filled with New Orleans charm, Memphis soul swagger, and a front-woman whose voice and stage presence are simply electric. With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits, the group serves up high-energy tunes with a twist of edgy nostalgia. LYSANDER PIANO TRIO SUNDAY, JANUARY 31, 2021 @ 2:00 & 7:30 P.M. UPSTAGE AT THE PHILLIPS CENTER

Known for innovative approaches to master works from the canon, Lysander Piano Trio has also turned heads with their ecstatic embrace of newer works and hidden gems. Look no further than their debut recording, After a Dream, for evidence. Featuring music by Ravel, Haydn, Schubert, Joaquin Turina, and Moshe Zorman, The New York Times praised the ensemble for its “polished and spirited interpretations.” With their passion, articulation, and wild imagination, we can’t wait to see how this trio performs a program featuring works by [COMPOSER] and [COMPOSER] in a new staging for classical music on the Phillips Center main stage. In 2019, the global spotlight shined on Nella. Winning in the prestigious Best New Artist category at the Latin Grammys skyrocketed the Berklee College of Music graduate to international fame, and her star us rising. A fresh and exciting voice from Venezuela’s Margarita Island, Nella’s music has been described as “pop with something to say.” This is a rare chance to see an ascendant artist on her way to selling out stadiums.

The acoustic-roots virtuosos in Love Canon are downright chameleonic and yet distinctly a group all their own. Their most recent release, Cover Story, has their talents on full display with renditions of classic ’80s and ’90s hits from the likes of Peter Gabriel, Billy Joel, Depeche Mode, and Paul Simon. Exploring deep connections between two musical traditions, Strings for Peace brings together Indian classical sarod artists Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Bangash, and Ayaan Ali Bangash with American classical guitarist Sharon Isbin. These internationally renowned musicians transcend barriers of language, geography, and culture through sharing the gifts of their unique artistic traditions.

With soul-drenched vocals and a piano style all her own, Kandace Springs is bringing her refined mix of R&B, jazz, and pop to UpStage. Signed with Blue Note and having received praise from Prince in 2014, Springs is riding high off the buzz surrounding her newest album, The Women Who Raised Me. The album features her inspired interpretations of songs that she first heard growing up in Tennessee from classic icons like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, ’60s legends Nina Simone and Dusty Springfield, and modern masters like Sade and Lauryn Hill. In a world full of divisions, The Yuval Ron Ensemble unites through music. Led by award-winning Israeli composer, producer, and peace activist, Yuval Ron, this ensemble melds the music and philosophies of Jewish, Islamic, and Christian traditions for an evening of deep meaning. With soulful reinterpretations of songs performed in Arabic and Hebrew, the group aims to inspire listeners to imagine a vision of peace on Earth. GENERAL ADMISSION — 7:00 P.M. As if a dear friend stopped by to perform for you, Royal Wood will make you feel instantly at home. A natural-born storyteller, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Royal Wood serves up intimate pop-rock tunes with equal dashes of class and craft. Starting with his first release in 2002, he’s built a discography defined by his ceaseless ability to evolve and hone his musical identity. QUARTET AMABILE FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 2021 @ 7:30 P.M. | UNIVERSITY AUDITORIUM

Hailing from Japan, this quartet took home First Prize at the 2019 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Quartet Amabile has performed with musical greats like pianist Martha Argerich and participated in master classes with the infamous Shanghai and Vienna String Quartets, Sadao Harada, Koichiro Harada, and Nobuko Imai. The quartet currently studies with Kazuhide Isomura of the Tokyo String Quartet, at the Manhattan School of Music.
