The Maintenance Corner Jamie Wilkes Maintenance Supervisor We had more than 300 apartments move out this spring and summer. This has been the busiest year for move-outs in my nine years in Family and Graduate Housing. Residents have moved into the recently renovated Building P. The Physical Plant construction crews did a great job, and the apartments look great. We will soon replace all of the refrigerators in Building E, giving you plenty of notice before it happens. We have 14 of the 28 refrigerators in stock, and the rest should be here this week. Building Q renovation has begun, with a reopening scheduled for spring 2012. When you use the laundry facilities and have trouble with a machine, please e-mail or call in a work order at (706) 542-3999, just as you would with your apartment. We need to know which machine is not working, as well as the laundry room in which it is located.

Please do not tamper with the smoke detectors in your apartment. This is the first warning that you will get in case there is a fire in your apartment. If you disable the head, you are not only are you endangering yourself in the event of a fire, but also everyone in your building. Call the Family and Graduate Housing office during the day or the resident manager on duty at night to silence the head if you accidentally set it off while cooking. Peachtree Pest Control comes to Family and Graduate Housing every Wednesday to treat apartments. Please have your work orders in before each Wednesday of the week you would like to have your apartment treated. *** Pest control personnel have told me that roaches and other pests hate clean, cool apartments. To control the appearance of pests, remove your trash daily and keep your food—such as cereal, rice and breads—in sealable containers. Wipe down your ranges and counter tops after cooking.

***Congratulations to Marquis Smith*** I am proud to announce that Marquis Smith has been selected as the skilled trades worker for Area II, a position that was vacated by George Thornton. Marquis has been with Family and Graduate Housing for approximately five years and has extensive knowledge of all areas of Family and Graduate Housing.
