ADMISSIONS PROCESS submit TOEFL or IELTS scores Ø TOEFL iBT: A total score of 79 or higher Ø TOEFL PBT: A total score of 550 or higher Ø IELTS: An overall band score of 6.5 or higher IMPORTANT NOTE: Completed online application, application fee, all required official academic records and required official test scores must reach the Office of Admissions before the deadline. Students completing their applications after the deadline will not be considered for admission.


ADMISSIONS PROCESS English Language Requirements To fulfill the English language requirement, you must satisfy one of the following criteria: Ø Live in Australia, the British Isles, the Bahamas, English-speaking Canadian Provinces, Jamaica, New Zealand, Belize, Fiji Islands, Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Trinidad, the Virgin Islands, the West Indies, Zimbabwe, or another country that uses English as a native language. Ø Take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) and meet these score requirements: TOEFL (iBT) – 79; TOEFL (PBT) - 550; IELTS Overall – 6.5. Please note: International transfer students may be exempt from submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score by completing 30 or more semester credit hours from a U.S. accredited institution of higher education, including coursework equivalent to UH English Composition ENGL 1303 and ENGL 1304 with a grade of “C” or better and/or the completion of an AA or AS degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Ø Complete Level 6 of the Intensive English Program at the University of Houston's Language and Culture Center.


APPLICATION STATUS Ø myUH. Within three days after submitting the online application, applicant will receive a confirmation email from the University of Houston. The email contains the seven-digit myUH ID and instructions on how to login to the applicant’s myUH account. Application statuses are indicated in applicant’s myUH account. Ø To Do List. Outstanding application materials are listed in the applicant’s myUH account “To Do List”. Documents arriving at the Office of Admissions will be processed before the corresponding items are removed from the To Do List. Please allow up to two weeks for processing. Ø Application review. Once all required application materials have been received and processed, the Office of Admissions will start reviewing the application. Normally the reviewing process takes up to two weeks. Ø Decision notification. Once the admission decision has been made, the Office of Admissions will send a letter of notification to applicant via postal mail.


I-20 DOCUMENTS Applicants seeking an I-20 to apply for an F-1 visa and/or maintain F-1 status, must submit the items below. Documents can be uploaded as PDF files to applicant’s myUH account at myUH.uh.edu, go to UH Self Service > Student Admission, and upload the files from your To Do List.

The form must be less than six months old from the date of the sponsor’s signature. The bank statement must be less than six months old and it must indicate a minimum balance of USD37,730 or the equivalent. Please save all pages into one PDF file. International students seeking an I-20 from the University of Houston must provide a physical address outside the U.S. in their home country.


I-20 FORM Ø I-20 Transfer Form. After receiving admission, students who are currently in F-1 status should submit the I-20 Transfer Form. The form is to be completed by an international student advisor at the school which issued the student’s most recent I-20. With this form, the student requests the school to release his or her SEVIS record to the University of Houston. Ø Processing Time. The Office of Admissions will start processing the I-20 once the University of Houston has received the student’s SEVIS record and all required I-20 documents. The processing time may take up to two weeks. Ø Notification. The Office of Admissions will contact the student via email once the I-20 has been produced.
