Program Notes On Saturday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m., Moores School of Music faculty artists Lawrence Wheeler and Tali Morgulis present a streamed concert of music for viola and piano. They will perform the soulful Sonata for Viola and Piano by Mikhail Glinka, two virtuoso works for solo piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff, and two expressive and passionate pieces by the English composer Frank Bridge. The program will include the world premiere of Suite Mestiza by acclaimed composer Gabriela Lena Frank, arranged for solo viola by Lawrence Wheeler. Ms. Frank has served as composer-in-residence for the Houston Symphony and is currently composer-inresidence for the Philadelphia Orchestra. She has drawn international acclaim, and was recently the recipient of a $250,000.00 unrestricted grant from the Heinz Foundation. Frank’s work often draws on her multicultural background, especially her mother’s Peruvian heritage. In many of her compositions, she elicits the sounds of Latin American instruments.
