Check out our Upper Hutt Heritage FaceBook Page! Have you visited Upper Hutt Heritage, the Library’s local history Facebook page, yet? Launched just a few months back, it’s a great way to learn about, reminisce about, and help provide us with more information about life in Upper Hutt from years gone by. Daily posts taken from our substantial Heritage Collections cover everything from old school and sports club photos to news pictures from the Leader, family snapshots, and records of major local events. At left is an example of one popular recent post on our heritage Facebook page. This photo of WW II servicemen from Upper Hutt having dinner in Cairo has not only attracted over 1500 views so far, but it’s also led to people helping us identify the names of some of the men shown — information for our records that we wouldn’t have otherwise had.

Kai Ora, I have enjoyed my time in the Hot Seat over the last six months having had some lovely conversations with library users and staff alike. To illustrate the range of grief-related topics you can discuss with me, to date I have had conversations with people about: •
Moving from their family home
•
The death of a cherished pet
•
Children’s story books about loss and grief
•
Ideas on planning a funeral
•
Living with disabilities
•
The use of ritual for acknowledging, honouring and healing
•
And in some cases, pointing people in a more appropriate direction.
