This June, Upper Hutt Library will once again be taking part in the Big Library Read, the world’s largest digital book club through public libraries that connects millions of readers around the world with the same eBook at the same time. For a two-week period beginning 13 June and finishing 27 June, Upper Hutt City Library’s OverDrive users will ALL be able to borrow the “The other Einstein” by Marie Benedict. No wait lists or holds needed! Meet Mileva Marić; the woman behind one of the most famous men of the twentieth century: Albert Einstein. “The other Einstein” by Marie Benedict offers a window into the fascinating story of Einstein’s first wife. A brilliant physicist in her own right, her contribution to the special theory of relativity is hotly debated and may have been inspired by her own profound and very personal insight. Marie Benedict has written an historical novel which offers readers a window into a brilliant, fascinating woman whose light was lost in Einstein’s enormous shadow. “The moment I first learned about Mileva, I discovered that she was fascinating in her own right and I felt compelled to tell her tale,” said Marie. “The more I researched Mileva and came to know her through her letters, I realized that her story was powerful and important in itself, and instrumental in understanding our own history and the role of women in it. I hope that you enjoy 'The other Einstein' and that Mileva’s story sparks many spirited conversations with other Big Library Read readers.” If you do not already have OverDrive on your computer or device, you can follow the ePukapuka instructions on our website’s ebooks and Audiobooks page at http://www.upperhuttlibrary.co.nz/digital-resources/ebooks/ We also have a handout at the Issue Desk which you can take home. If you have any problems setting up OverDrive, just bring your computer or device into the library and ask for staff assistance.
