Kia Ora, People are what make a community great. The Cheers to our Volunteers and the Wellington Airport Community Awards are two opportunities to recognise and acknowledge all of those individuals and community groups that work so tirelessly within our community to make it such a wonderful place to live. Further information on these two outstanding opportunities are covered in this newsletter. Upper Hutt City Council Community Services aims to provide services that support an informed, connected and resilient community. This Newsletter provides a wealth of information around opportunities for the community to learn, engage and connect. The newsletter also provides an opportunity for staff to outline some of the achievements and pieces of work that they are currently
engaged with. Staff genuinely care about connecting with and supporting the community and I encourage you to contact staff to discuss how they can interact with you or your organisation to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. We as a division of Council are always looking to improve upon services and opportunities that are provided for the community. If you have ideas around programmes or services that you would like to see within the Community Services division please contact me directly or discuss with one of the great team members that we have within Community Services. Want to be more resilient? Come for some hearty soup and stimulating discussions when you register to attend a Wellbeing and Resilience Workshop being held in the city in late June and early July.
4
The interactive workshop facilitated by Umbrella Health addresses the questions, ‘Do you want to thrive rather than just survive’? and, ‘What are the best tools for staying resilient when life is a bit stressful’? Workshop participants will find out what
recent scientific research has discovered about what helps us to stay resilient and to thrive in our lives and how we put this knowledge into practical use every day. There are four chances to attend this workshop. The lunchtime or evening sessions are to be held at Upper Hutt City Library (June 24,25 & July 1) and Timberlea Community House (July 3).

Funding Expo - A Success! The Funding Expo on 27 May at the Upper Hutt City Library was a great success. With almost 100 community groups and individuals in attendance. The night was a chance for groups to hear about funding sources that may apply to them. Pelorus Trust, Department of Internal Affairs, Upper Hutt City Council and Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club presented on the night. They spoke
about the funding that they offered, who could apply, and how to apply. Afterwards there were breakout sessions with the different funders, for groups and individuals to ask more in-depth questions. Due to the success of this, another Funding Expo will be held in October so keep a look out in our next Chatter for details.

Neighbours Night The Timberlea community hosted another successful and well attended Neighbours Night on Friday 1st May. Our local groups from Timberlea took the lead with the creative art workshop theme. There were a range of activities that allowed children and families to get involved and create colourful art on the night. 10
The evening provided an opportunity for service providers such as Fire, Te Awakairange Health, Neighbourhood Support and others to connect with the people of Timberlea. The success of the night owes to the engagement and support of the residents involved in organising and running the Neighbours Night events.
