mānoa

n. vast and deep

Like its literal definition in Hawaiian, the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa offers a vast array of opportunities unique as the place we are named for.

In traditional times, Manoa valley was expertly cared for and cultivated by Native Hawaiians. In return, it provided an abundance of sustenance and protection for its residents. Today, Manoa continues to furnish the resources that enable our institution to be a thriving land-, sea-, space-, and sun- grant university. In keeping with the Native Hawaiian manner of reciprocity, these blessings are passed on to you in the form of academic excellence so that you are equipped to take care of yourself, humanity, Hawai‘i, and the world.

As Hawaiian language kumu (teacher), it is our kuleana (responsibility) to perpetuate the language and culture. The best way to do this is by standing on the shoulders of the cultural giants and icons, who came before us. Through their selfless examples of Aloha, we are equipped to inspire and educate the next generation of Hawaiian language learners.” She earned the 2021 SWCOLT Excellence in Teaching Post-Secondary Award.

Dr. Kristine Qureshi Lead of the School of Nursing and Dental Health Nursing Global Health Program School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene Dr. Qureshi is a recognized expert in emergency preparedness and Pacific Islands nursing workforce development, and has worked extensively in the acute care, community health and academic sectors.
