THEATRE FOR ALL UIC STUDENTS

PRODUCTIONS Theatre productions are open to all students on campus and require auditions. Auditions typically occur during the first week of the semester. Course credit is also available for work in set or costume construction, lighting production, sound productions, or public relations. STUDENT-RUN ORGANIZATIONS Chicago Circle Players and Red Light School District also offer productions throughout the year and hold auditions open to all UIC students. Search for both groups on Facebook for audition information.

COURSES

MINOR

Theatre courses are available to all students on campus. Some courses meet general education requirements. For other theatre courses, priority is given to theatre degree students and theatre minors.

-- The theatre minor requires 18 credits and provides students with a way to hone in skills, stay engaged, and maintain a passion for theatre. To apply for a theatre minor, visit us online at theatreandmusic.uic.edu.

BA in Theatre & Performance students have the opportunity to take full advantage of a wide range of courses across the discipline and to focus their study through three tracks: general, performance, and authorship. Audition required.

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Performance

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting BFA in Acting degree students pursue a structured course of study that focuses on developing the actor for professional work or graduate training. Audition required.

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Design Production & Technology BA in Theatre Design, Production, & Technology students take courses across the discipline with a particular focus on theatre design or technology. Interview required.

Students may earn a degree in theatre as well as in another discipline. However, 30 extra credit hours are required. Current students looking to study theatre should: -- Visit the College of Architecture, Design & the Arts Student Affairs office in Jefferson Hall, Room 208, and complete an Inter-College Transfer Form. -- Contact us at theatre@uic.edu to request an appointment.

FAQS Does UIC have a theatre department? Yes! UIC has an active theatre department, located in the School of Theatre & Music. I am not a theatre degree student; can I participate in a production? Absolutely. Productions are open to all UIC Students. Do I have to audition for the productions? Yes. All productions hold auditions open to every UIC student. The theatre offers four mainstage productions yearly. All productions are courses and area available for three hours of course credit. Course credit is also available in set or costume construction, lighting production, sound production, or public relations; see the “Productions” section inside this brochure for course information. Each of these credits can count towards your degree’s electives. I am pre-med and heard I cannot earn a degree in theatre. Is that true? No. It is possible to earn a degree in theatre and another discipline at the same time. However, a dual degree requires 30 extra credit hours. Be sure to speak to an advisor for more information. If I want a theatre degree, do I have to audition? For the BFA Acting and BA Theatre, yes. For the BA Theatre Design, an interview is required. I am not a theatre degree student. Can I participate in a production? Absolutely. Productions are open to all UIC students.
