RETENTION

Retention is the percentage of first-year students that return to the same institution for the second year. Students who are not retained by the same institution may be enrolled at another institution.

Overall, our retention and graduation rates are points of pride. It is important to identify students who may need different types of support to complete their degrees. U of I invests in the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) and TRIO programs, as well as others, to support students who want additional services and to build community.

In addition, we re-formed a state-wide Hispanic Advisory Council. Members serve as advisors and advocates for recruitment, retention and student onboarding programs to help all Hispanic students succeed. Other retention and graduation strategies are highlighted later in our Strategic Enrollment Plan.
