Safe Spring Break 2013: Sun, Slopes or Service, Make the Break Safe! Make the Pledge to Make the Break Safe! The BACCHUS Network encourages you to have a Safe Spring Break this year. Whatever your plans are, make sure they include these tips: • Remember, impairment begins with the first drink. Choose not to drink if you are driving, or be safe with a designated driver. • Wear your seatbelt. Always. It’s your best protection in a crash. • Distracted driving is dangerous. Park the car to check mobile devices. • Respect other peoples’ right, and your own, to choose not to drink. • Respect state laws and campus policies. • Stay out of dangerous situations involving alcohol, whether in a car, bar or bedroom. • If a friend drinks to the point of passing out, alcohol poisoning is a real danger. If you’re concerned, seek medical attention. Better safe than sorry! Take the pledge! By reading the following and sharing your pledge on Twitter or Facebook, you agree to Make the Break Safe! • I promise not to drink and drive during Spring Break, or let any of my friends get behind the wheel impaired. • I will not ride in a car when the driver has been drinking. • I will wear my seatbelt, whether I’m the driver or passenger. • I will focus on my driving when behind the wheel and not be distracted by mobile devices, music or passengers. • I will watch out for my friends, take care of myself, and do what I can to plan for a Safe Spring Break!

Environment Texas "Save Texas Rivers" Internship Program Job Title: Intern – Save Texas Rivers Campaign Location: San Antonio, TX Term: We are looking for interns and volunteers to begin immediately Hours: 15-20 hours per week preferred for interns, 5-10 hours per week for volunteers Campaign Description: Texas' rivers and streams - from the Guadalupe to the Trinity and Colorado - are more than just part of our national heritage. They are the lifeblood of our state. Last year, we saw one of the worst droughts in history: Reservoirs dipped to record lows, and as many as 500 million trees across Texas died. Here in San Antonio, it seems everyone knows the level of the Edwards Aquifer. And recent storms have not brought adequate relief or repaired this damage. In fact, in July 11 reservoirs were still less than 10 percent full. The good news is that we can save Texas' rivers by convincing our state legislators and water resource managers to conserve water. We can save millions of gallons through common-sense, cheap solutions like fixing leaky pipes and recycling water that we have already collected. The key is to act now, so that we can enjoy plentiful, clean water instead of experiencing an even deeper drought. Environment Texas is working with a coalition of organizations, businesses, legislators, and water board members to ensure that low-cost, common-sense water conservation gets the funding it deserves. Job Activities/Scope: Interns and volunteers will provide support to all aspects of the Save Texas Rivers campaign, including student and community-member recruitment, leadership development, and grassroots visibility tactics. Interns will have the opportunity to work with Environment Texas volunteers and staff and on their own college campuses. Required Knowledge and Skills: · Excellent written and oral communication skills ·
Ability to work well independently or in a team setting

Ability to converse comfortably on the phone
·
Strong attention to detail
·
Experience with grassroots organizing and campaigns is a plus
·
Good time management and organizational skills
·
Enthusiasm about conserving our water resources!

MARCH IS WOMEN HISTORY MONTH! On March 3, 1913, 5,000 women marched up Pennsylvania Avenue demanding the right to vote. Their “national procession,” staged the day before Woodrow Wilson’s presidential inauguration, was the first civil rights parade to use the nation’s capital as a backdrop, underscoring the national importance of their cause and women’s identity as American citizens. The event brought women from around the country to Washington in a show of strength and determination to obtain the ballot. The extravagant parade–and the near riot that almost destroyed it–kept woman suffrage in the newspapers for weeks.
