Make sure your luggage is labeled and you have a carry-on with your essentials (and immigration documents)
Keep your valuable electronics safe. Don't forget some souvenirs!
Don't over pack... you'll do LOTS of shopping in the U.S. Also, the weather is almost always warm...no need for thick jackets.
