SPORTS CONCUSSION SUMMIT Saturday,May 18th, 2013

CALL FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS In its 4th conference dedicated to current concepts in concussion assessment and management, University of Kentucky Health Care and Norton Neuroscience Institute are bringing together medical experts, brain research scientists, and clinicians to discuss important issues in the care of the concussed athlete. This year’s conference themes include academic accommodations for returning the concussed student-athlete back to the classroom, pharmacologic options for managing post-concussion symptoms, dual task testing and training approaches, addressing psychological problems, and the evaluation and rehabilitation of imbalance and vestibular deficits. You are invited to submit an abstract for the 4th Annual Sports Concussion Summit. We are accepting abstracts for poster presentations of original research (basic, clinical, or translational), case report, descriptive model, and prevention. Posters will be displayed throughout the conference on Saturday, May 18th. Original research abstracts will be accepted but are not required; we encourage you to submit research posters that you have prepared and presented at professional meetings and conferences within the past 2 to 3 years.

GENERAL SUBMISSION INFORMATION Space for 12 posters will be reserved to display projects or research studies involving (but not limited to): •

Basic science research related to mechanisms of injury, pathophysiologic processes, and recovery; • Educational evaluation or descriptions of best practices related to concussions in sports; • Diagnostic and management techniques for sport-related neurotraumatic injuries • Methods to reduce the risks and consequences of sport-related neurotraumatic injuries • Prevention studies focused on risk reduction for concussion (equipment-related issues, coaching techniques, concussion awareness education, etc.) • Education for coaches/school personnel, parents, teachers, and athletes focused on raising awareness about concussion risks, consequences, prevention, and management. Authors will be responsible for printing their own poster, mounting posters Saturday morning, being available to discuss their work during scheduled breaks, and removing posters at the end of the conference. Posters will be displayed in the conference area from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.


Abstract submissions must contain the following: 1) Title of abstract

2) Author(s) information including: name, degrees/credentials, institutional affiliation, city and state , and email address 3) Purpose or Objective of the study or project 4) Methods or Description of the work (this section may include any or all of the following, as applicable:) • Study Design • Subjects, Patients, or Participants, • Methods, Interventions, or Measures • Results 5) Conclusion (a brief summary of the findings and/or relevance of the work). Abstracts should be limited to 250 words (maximum). No specific font size or style is required. Please submit your abstract as a Microsoft Word document (a rich text file format is an acceptable alternative). Please do not submit PDFs.

Please submit abstracts electronically to: scott.livingston@uky.edu. Submit poster abstracts by Friday, April 26th, 2013, 5:00 p.m. EST. Acknowledgement of receipt of submissions will be e-mailed within 7 working days. If your poster is accepted, you will be notified by May 3, 2013. Presenters may not use any conference presentation to market products or services; exhibit space is available for that purpose (see our call for exhibitors.
