Name: Themes & Variations plates Company: Fornasetti Designer: Piero Fornasetti Dimensions: 26cm diameter Material: Porcelain Price: ÂŁ135 per plate

Piero Fornasetti was a painter, a sculptor, an interior decorator, an engraver of art books, a creator of more than 11,000 items, an organizer of international exhibitions and events. Amongst the most famous is the one that Fornasetti himself called "Theme and Variations", published in a tiny, precious book and representing the enigmatic face of a woman. He found 'her' glancing through a French magazine of the 19th century: her name was Lina Cavalieri. Perhaps he chose this face for its archetypal, classic female features. Like a Greek statue and enigmatic like the Mona Lisa she was perfect to be moulded into the idea Fornasetti had in his mind. The only difficulty with these pieces is deciding on which to have! Please contact us for details of which plates we have in stock.

Name: Alvar Aalto Savoy vase Company: iittala Designer: Alvar Aalto Dimensions: From 12cm to 16cm Material: Glass Price: From £74 to £219 Description: With these vases Alvar Aalto, one of the 20th Century's greatest architects, won a competition held in 1936 to find new Finnish glass for the Paris World Exhibition. Since then the Aalto vase has become perhaps the world's most famous glass object and, in the opinion of many people, an icon of the 20th century. The original form was inspired by an Eskimo woman’s breeches that had frozen whilst hanging out to dry on the washing line!

Name: Barn Owl Company: iittala Designer: Oiva Toikka Dimensions: Small 6.5cm, large 15.5cm Material: Hand blown glass Price: Small £89, large £199 Description: One of the best known Finnish glass designers in the world, Toikka has had an adoring audience for his work for decades. Sometimes known as the funny man of Finnish glass, on closer examination of the man and his work, one can detect strict discipline, a slightly dark artistic sensibility and an unfettered imagination His work ranges from the highly practical, such as Kastehelmi glass serving plates to the most abstract of art pieces, his lollipop sculptures. He has won numerous prizes such as the Lunning and Kaj Franck Prizes. Indeed, his captivating collection of birds have been in production for over 30 years originally produced in Nuutajärvi, and now by the master craftsmen at Iittala. They are the ultimate summation of his inexhaustible knowledge of glass and his high attention to detail. For him glass is the natural medium to capture the fluidity of birds’ shapes and their vivid colour. Beautifully streamlined, gloriously hued, affordable enough to buy a small flock or give as a gift, each bird is lovingly hand made and unique.
